1999 was in my opinion his greatest year. In fact, this movie released only a couple of weeks after one of Rahman's all-time best Tamil language soundtracks too (SANGAMAM). He did 9 movies in 1999: 7 in Tamil (EN SWASA KAATRE (my personal favorite Rahman soundtrack), PADAYAPPA (Rajnikanth film with the soundtrack still being remembered), KADHALAR DHINAM, SANGAMAM, JODI, MUDHALVAN, and TAJMAHAL) and 2 in Hindi (TAAL and THAKSHAK). All with such insane range and variety.
