Kaeser 5C Air Compressor Annual Service

Ғылым және технология

My Kaeser 5C Airtower was due for its annual maintenance. Air Power Services came by the shop to perform this work ensuring that everything was in good order and that we had all of the necessary parts like filters, oil and other components replaced as needed to comply to our 5 year warranty.
Our Airtower has been running trouble free for two years now. It serves my shop well by providing clean dry air all day and on demand, with very low noise levels. #aircompressors #rotaryscrew #kaeser

My shop has a SM10 Airtower and it has been problem free except recently. Somehow the starting relay for the refrigeration motor failed (the electric coil melted the connections). After having Kaeser service come out and discovering the problem the only fix was to replace the entire refrigeration unit (motor & pump) along with all the recharging the system and so on. This was a $3000+ fix. I decided that I couldn't "F" it up worse and reconnected the coil with the proper wiring. It took a day of fiddling but the system is back up and running. If nothing else I could make a fix from the McMaster-Carr catalog. I *do* have an inquiry to Tecumseh distributors for a factory replacement, which is about $60.... It's a plug-and-play replacement and would take about 15 minutes to replace. In all, I highly recommend the Kaeser compressors: they're more money but they're (nearly) bomb-proof.

The hospital/research center that I retired from had over ten air compressors from this company . They always installed a pair and in two older buildings they kept one of the old air compressors for emergency back up. They were controlled thru Johnson control system that would alternate the compressors because one unit would normally run less then 35% of the time but if air pressure was to get too low the second air compressor would come on line. System allowed you to use only one compressor if other one was making g noise or running ruff. Building engineers loved that brand.

Cost of doing business. If you had a shop that warrants this type of machine, you work that maintenance cost into your budget. Its costly, but compared to paying a salary, like paying yourself or a skilled employee, it's not so bad! Even at a modest wage, imagine 70k annually just going out the door for one worker. You're basically paying off a luxury car each year. However much the annual service cost is at that point is a drop in the bucket- comparatively speaking. I get your point though- the average home gamer can't afford such nice things, me included 😂 I manage ~ 60 truck drivers and we pay out nearly 5 million annually in employee salary. I've learned throughout the years that if you don't spend the money to do maintenance the right way, you pay for it ten-fold down the road when your guys break down and loads fail. Then you pay more to get it fixed, and pay salary for down time, and lose money on the load. Running a business is rough lol

I perform maintenance on two systems at work. Sure, warranty isn’t there anymore, but the quote we got from Kaeser was so high that we would be able to replace the complete system every 3 years. Also, about the automatic drain cartridge, Kaeser charges more for the cartridge than a complete kit with housing and controller. So, just switch them out every second year, and you have a fresh new warranty and a spare controller and housing.

@@spikeypineapple552 You know absolutely nothing. Its called preventative maintence for a reason, you dont run the machine to failure then be screwed when you can't run your equipment because youve got no air. I've worked on Kaeser compressors at multiple places and they are easily the most service friendly air compressors I've encountered. They do kits and spares for everything and its all built to last. Most companies do these services in house because they have in house engineering techs, but adam isn't an engineer in a large company, hes a machinist running a small shop, so its natural for people like him to have someone knowledgeable come take care of it. So who cares if its a sponsored video, people get to watch a good tech doing his thing and businesses should promote companies that provide them with good products and service. Stop being such a whiner and don't watch if you're going to cry about it.

I sold various major brands of industrial air compressors for thirty years, and I can categorically say that Kaeser is a good compressor, but no better than any of the other majors such as Ingersoll Rand, Gardner Denver, Sullair, Quincy or Atlas Copco. All sell variations of the packaged unit that you have, but everyone in the business will admit that it's not cost-effective to buy a rotary-screw air compressor any smaller than 25 HP, because of the economy of scale in manufacturing. The packaged units, like the one you have, while taking up less floor space make the units more complicated to service than if you have a unitary air compressor, and refrigerated dryer separate. Lastly the lubricant "drain under pressure" is in no way a Kaeser unique feature, I've seen service technicians do it in all the other brands since the '70s.

@@brookerobertson2951 That is pure assumption, conjecture and speculation on your part. If you listened to the last part of the video he 'asked' the Tech if he could film him and what he was doing and it sure didn't sound like the company had arranged it before hand. The larger point is does it matter? What we got from it was an under the hood look and a conversation with a tech that will I am sure help others do some more of their own maintenance after the warrantee period runs out.
