Kabog Grains Harvest l Indigenous Millet l Catmon Heritage Crop l Cebu, PH

We visited the hinterland Kabog farm in the Municipality of Catmon, Province of Cebu - to witness how the locals harvested their well-loved native millet grains that are already ripe for harvest. We were also allowed to harvest it ourselves and we enjoyed the experience.

The whole video was very intriguing and informative. It was interesting to see one of the native crops of Cebu and how they were processed manually. It is fascinating to see that despite how modernized society is today, the harvesting and processing of millet still remains traditional. Indeed, these crops should have more exposure as it is a healthier option for the people and the environment. These practices and other native crops should be recorded and treasured so that future generations can still explore and try it.

Yeah cultivating kabog is a very hard labor indeed that is why it loses its popularity to the farmers and they favor the planting of high yielding crops like corn and palay. .. But fortunately the species survived thru the challenges of time and it is still around until now as a novelty crop tho low yielding but still commands a good price in the market bringing a good life to the farmers who sacrificed a lot during its cultivation. Thnks for watching ha🤗

Watching your vlog made me interested in Kabog since it can be an alternative to rice, a healthier option for me and others who wants to no longer eat rice. This is a great video for me because it is one of the most informative videos that I have watched so far. I was amazed knowing that the pag gi-ok process still exists up until now despite the existence of some machinery. I can tell that this video would be the best step in promoting our heritage crops which is the millet, and also to the local farmers.

Yes it is still processed manually and it's a very tedious one. It's my pride sharing this all to you so you may somehow appreciate the hard work of the farmers in our hinterland areas. Pls continue patronizing our heritage crops because it the only way it will survive in this challenging times where fast yielding crops that are laboratory made are flooding the market which are harmful for our health and of our soil... harming our local biodiversity. Thnks for watching dai😊

It's very nice to see that you are showing the natural way of harvesting kabog/millet rice without using any machineries. Your video is absolutely informative for us millennials who are curious about the natural process of harvesting since most of us live in the City and only a few has the opportunity to witness how the crops we eat are processed. Thank you for feeding our curiosity with this new knowledge that I've learned. :)

The video is very informative. It gives us knowledge on how to harvest the kabog grains manually. I was really amazed that processing and harvesting of the millet are still traditional in this modernized society. Millet gives provides more nutrition than any other crop it has a lot of health benefits. It shows how our local farmers patiently harvest the millet grains under the heat of the sun.

Wow! This was one of the most informative videos I watched in terms of agriculture in the Philippines. Through this video, I just found out how the locals then rely on animals to identify whether the grain is safe to consume or not. The mountains of Catmon are very abundant in kabog grains. Thank you for sharing this informative video. This will greatly assist future generations to learn about our ancient Philippine crops as well as our beloved local farmers.

The whole Video was very informative and educational especially how the millets (kabog) are harvested and processed. I was also amazed that they harvest and process it manually by hand, even though this generation involves full of machinery in most of our crops. Budbud Kabog is one of my favorite delicacy here in Cebu I always ask my father to stop by to buy budbud kabog when he goes to Bantayan Island. Thanks to this video it recognized and promote our own local farmers and local grown millet.

It's my pleasure sharing the knowledge to the younger generation like you. I just learned about the kabog grains cultivation during the time I was invited to visit the place🤗 its a very tedious process that is why it is somehow elusive in the market because farmers prefer planting the higher yielding crops but if we continue to patronize this novelty grain the farmers will be interested to plant more...so pls continue patronizing our local produce millet grains or kabog becoz it is the only way it will survive. Thnks for watching and pls subscribe to my channel dai for more helpful contents 😊

I have tried Kabog rice when Chef Hao introduced it to us during 1st year - 2nd sem. I have appreciated the taste and was looking for where it is available. There is so much more to try and promote our own local produce. Thank you for making a move to educate us, Miss Sweetie! Will include Millet grains on my healthy options.

Thank you so much for this very informative video! Honestly, I am really not aware that we can also have the millet grain as an alternative or substitute to the white rice since I haven't tried it pajud. And it is indeed way more healthier because of its benefits that you have mentioned. Because of this video, I realized that our farmers are being patient especially when harvesting under the sun, that's why we should really support our local farmers, we should consume locally and learn how to embrace it.

Wow! I was surprised that the millet species that they farm is prosso millet which is rare in Cebu. The most common millet I saw in Cebu was the foxtail millet which is not actually commercially farmed but for personal consumption only as a backyard farm. That's why it has a different local term (kabog). Because the foxtail millet that we had in Southern Cebu is locally called 'dawa'.

Yeah that's true its d dawa or birdseed that is mostly common... But Kabog started to appear again in the market but at limited areas only.. Cultivation is really a very tedious process. It's a bird marget by both daylight and nocturnal birds. So struggle is real when the grains started to mature. Thnks for watching 😊
