Beautiful culture, may I ask why they wear pants under the traditional attire?

As this is hula 'auana, a more modern form type of hula (younger than 150 years), the clothing style does not have to be traditional. If you watch the hula kahiko you will see more traditional outfits.

These men are dressed in the style King David Kalakaua’s dancers, when auana dancing began. 1880s. The pa’u skirt is made of hau tree pith.
