Despite his royal name, Raja Bundela, he remained a side hero in films. In today's video, we delve into his story.
Raja Bundela was born on October 1, 1959, into the royal family of Lalitpur. His real name is Raj Rajeshwar Pratap Singh Judev. The history of Bundelkhand's royal families begins with the Mughals when Aurangzeb killed Raja Chhatrasal Bundela's father. After this bloodshed, Raja Chhatrasal had to join the Mughal army. Later, he met Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who advised him to return to Bundelkhand and fight against the Mughals. Influenced by Shivaji Maharaj, Raja Chhatrasal returned and established the Bundelkhand state.
One of the family members from Lalitpur fought against the British and joined Mahatma Gandhi's movement, even going to jail. This freedom fighter was Diwan Raghuveer Singh Bundela, Raja Bundela's father. Despite his royal lineage, Raja Bundela struggled in the film industry. When the great comedian Satish Kaushik set foot in Mumbai on August 8, 1979, Raja Bundela was with him. They were friends from their NSD days and started their careers together.
Along with them, a girl came to Mumbai, who later became Raja Bundela's wife, actress Sushmita Mukherjee. They got married in 1993 and have two sons, Rudransh and Rudranush. Despite her numerous films, Sushmita Mukherjee is best known for her role in the movie "Golmaal."
Raja Bundela's first role was as Lord Krishna in the Gujarati film "Bhakta Narsaiyya Mehta" released in 1980. He later appeared in "Star" alongside Kumar Gaurav and several other films as the hero's friend. Despite his handsome looks, he was never cast as the main lead.
He played notable roles in films like "Ankush," "Swarg," and "Vijeta." He also appeared in the iconic film "Shola Aur Shabnam." Raja Bundela's contribution to TV series like "Tara," "Farmaan," and "Surag" is unforgettable. Influenced by his father's legacy, he made the film "Alex Hindustani" in 2012. He also produced the film "Pratha" in 2002, featuring the late Irrfan Khan.
Now, what is Raja Bundela doing these days? Surprisingly, he is active in politics. Initially associated with Congress, he later joined BJP. He fought for Bundelkhand's statehood, contested the Jhansi Lok Sabha seat in 2004, and founded the Bundelkhand Congress party in 2011. However, he joined BJP two years later. His political journey is marked by his dedication to Bundelkhand.
