Should have checked all the sounds before coming out of the stage. The audience is not supposed to wait for that "tuning practice".

Hm... I think this is the difference of culture. Because there's a sensitive little membrane on the DiZi which may influence the sound heavily, so musician need to tune it on the stage.

Been learning the dizi for a year and a half now. I had my first performance after a year -- student achievement performance.. nothing crazy, but still 100+ people! -- and ran into this issue. To be sure, I had changed my membrane ("dimo") just before the performance and tested it, but the dimo will become a little loose due to waiting for your turn in a room cooled with AC. So once I got on stage and started playing, my membrane was too loose and I had to embarrassingly readjust it on the spot.. so @z79263 is right, many dizi players will blow a sound or two to ensure the dimo is right ; it's etiquette to not face the audience while doing so.

And the actual performance... the dizi and piano are not harmonized. Not pleasant to listen to, I'm afraid.
