Great legendery singer from India(chitraji)

Chitra amma is divine gift to music.

KS Chitra was introduced by Maestro Ilayaraja in tamil cinema. She sang the first song 'boojaiketha poovithu' (Neethaanaa antha kuyil, 1985) beautifully with Gangai Amaran (Ilayaraja's brother). The composition was extraordinary. Chitra also sang the song 'thathithom' for the film Azhagan (Mammooty, Madhubala). The carnatic portions were gregorious. The music was composed by Maragathamani. Director K Balachandar introduced him in tamil cinema as in that name. His real name in telugu was Keeravani, the Oscar winner for music compositor. This song is worth for reaction.

Keeravani's full name is Maragathamani(MM) Keeravani. In Telugu, he goes as MM Keeravani and in Tamil/Malayalam, as Maragathamani and in Hindi as MM Kreem. He just won an Oscar :D

Chithra's first tamil song are padariyen padippariyen pallikkudam thanariyen and Nanoru sindhu (film Sindu bhairavi) in 1985 2and film was Poove poo choodava song : chinnakkuyil padum pattu kekkutha Chithraji's Tamil nickname Cinnakkuyil Chithra, Neethana anthakkuyil released in1986.

If you noticed when she kept saying her voice is not good , at end she started in Hindi and finished in Tamil

Her humility despite her incredible talent is so inspiring. Beautiful person inside and out.

The Bombay theme is A R Rehman’s greatest work. It should have won an Oscar.

@Universe Bombay was submitted for foreign language film that year. Do your homework please. The Academy had seen the film. It was shortlisted but did not get to the final nominations.

@Universe the procedure was followed dumbass. They did campaign for the film. The Academy voters had shortlisted the film which means that they saw it but didn’t think it was worthy for a nomination

KS Chithra is my mother’s favorite singer and since I turned 12 she is also my favorite singer. My son discovered her when he was 10 years old and is obsessed with her. So I took him to Canada to attend her concert with my mom last year. And 3 generations of my family was completely blown away by her genius even at 59 years of age.

Very true... I always wonder how she does that... even after losing her only child in a tragic way... Unbelievable. Same case with singer Swarnalatha...Amazing people.

In Tamil Nadu everyone calls her Chithra amma she is a mom figure to us. 😊

I guess why singers are often asked to sing a few lines is so that the people can be privileged to have heard those amazing singers live, in person. It also helps to showcase how talented they are even without music. It may seem disrespectful as if people doubt their capabilities, but it's tantamount to their talent.

She sung a semi classical song 'venu madhava' in one of the telugu films. When I heard that song in theatre I got goosebumps. I won't forget such wonderful moment.

Shes our neighbour and my mom grew with her..she remembers how Chithra was was always reminded not to eat oily food or some fruits

She's great even when she sings acapella. Love her good-natured smile and humility. Geniuses are humble.

I still feel Chitra amma hasnt been recognized all over India as she should have been, same is the case with legend S Janaki too... They get all their appreciation only in the South of India.

She is sweet. Isn't there anything similar with p.suseela Amma? Someone should introduce korbin and Rick to p.suseela amma's classics. I think she is the first receipent of national award. And has the largest number of songs to her credit among all playback singers in India.

She is just that perfectionist that she couldn't even let singing a small bit on an interview go wrong.

So a funny story that the late great SPB-sir shared about working with Chitra-maam. Chitra-maam's mother-tongue is Malayalam. In her earlier days working in the Telugu industry, she didn't know the Telugu language, and would write the lyrics in the form of phonics in Malayalam in order to pronounce them correctly. SPB-sir's mother-tongue was Telugu and he was her senior in the industry. He was also a bit of a sweet natured prankster. 😅 So in one particular recording, SPB-sir offered to read the lyrics to her for her to write down in Malayaalam. But the lyrics he gave her were totally different and in fact were words that were cussing out the director and music director. But of course, innocent Chitra-maam wasn't aware. When it was time to sing, she sang what she had written down. All the musicians were in fits of laughter while SPB-sir feigned innocence and shock. While the shocked Director and music director asked Chitra-maam why she was so angry with them. And she was almost in tears, saying SPB-sir was the one who taught her the lyrics. And everyone had a massive laugh about it. SPB-sir absolutely adored her like a little sister. And loved her innocence and good-nature. And he always would talk so highly about her.

So pure voice touches my heart this song .all indians favourite

You should see some episodes of Malayalam singing reality shows.. you'll get a better idea of how important are these perfectionism by classically trained singers.. especially judged by Sharat, chithra, sreekumar, etc Even other south Indian shows

Haha, it's almost like an insult in India if you don't ask a well-known singer to sing. They regularly break into a capella in all kinds of situations. It's like, what, you think I can only sing with autotune or instrumentation? Am I that bad? I was kidding on the insult part, but it would have been extraordinary for Shreya/Kaushiki or anyone of their calibre not to be asked to sing a few lines. Next time fellas, do ask them to sing a couple of lines. Hearing you sing live, even a capella, will make my day.

Chitra went into severe depression for years after the tragic death of her beloved daughter in 2011 in a swimming pool in Dubai. It was heart-breaking for everyone.

You guys started the video about swimming pool, Sadly KS Chitra lost her one and only child in a swimming pool accident. She and her husband tried a decade+ to have a child. All those happiness didn't last long. No wonder why she has to be a workaholic and escape the memories.
