അല്ലെങ്കിലും കേരളത്തിൽ ഏതെങ്കിലും അന്വേഷണം എവിടെ എങ്കിലും എത്താറുണ്ടോ അന്നും ഇന്നും

ക്യാമറാമാൻ ജോമോൻ ടി ജോൺ ആദ്യമായി സംവിധാനം ചെയ്യാൻ ഇരുന്ന സിനിമ ആയിരുന്നു കൈരളി. സംവിധായകനും രചയിതാവും നടനുമായ സിദ്ധാർത്ഥ് ശിവ ആയിരുന്നു ഈ സിനിമയുടെ രചയിതാവ്. നിവിൻപോളി നായകൻ. ജർമനി തുടങ്ങിയ രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ സിനിമയുടെ ഷൂട്ട് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ മലയാളത്തിലെ ബിഗ്ബജറ്റ് ചിത്രമായിട്ടായിരുന്നു കൈരളി അനൗൺസ് ചെയ്തത്. യാഥാർത്ഥ്യമായാൽ മലയാളത്തിൽ മികച്ച ഒരു സിനിമ തന്നെ ആയിരിക്കും കൈരളി

കണ്ണൂരിലെ എന്റെ സുഹൃത്ത് ആയ സുധാകരേട്ടൻ ഈ കപ്പലിൽ എഞ്ചിനീയർ ആയിരുന്നു അസുഖം കാരണം അദ്ദേഹം പോയില്ല പകരം ആയിരുന്നു ഇദ്ദേഹം പോയത് എന്ന് അറിയാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞു ഈ സംഭവത്തെ തുടർന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ജോലി രാജി വെച്ചു

1976 ൽ കേരളം വാങ്ങിയ കൈരളി എന്ന ചരക്കു കപ്പൽ 1979ൽ മുങ്ങിപ്പോയി എന്ന് പറയുന്നു. അതായത് 43 വർഷം മുമ്പ്. അന്ന് കേരളം ഭരിച്ചവർ ആരായിരുന്നു. ചിലവന്മാരുടെ കമെന്റ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ സഹതാപം തോന്നുന്നു. ഏലി ഏത് മറ്റേതു.. ഏതു എന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിയാത്തവർ.😢😢

It’s very unfortunate & indeed very sad that we lost Kairali & all those who were sailing on board in a tragedy. I started sailing as a Cadet in 1976 with The Shipping Corporation of India, continued uninterrupted sailing for 41 years on various types of ships from 10,000 tonnes to 300,000 tonnes DWT, commanded ships for 3 decades & have a close memory of Kairali and few people who sailed on her. If I remember correctly, she was in Mumbai prior sailing to Goa. When awaiting at Ballard pier for the launch service to my ship , I remember meeting Capt.Joseph & few others there. My neighbour, mentor & guide to my Shipping career was the Chief Officer on Kairali ( who signed off at Goa ).Understand that one Cadet also signed off at Goa prior her departure. It’s also unfortunate that the comments expressed by many people here are in a very crude & sarcastic way and are without any knowledge of ships / shipping. Shipping is a very risky profession, always being threatened with many adverse situations. And sadly, sometimes the adventure doesn’t get completed successfully due to many reasons. Lack of shore support, commercial pressure, condition of the ship / equipments, weather conditions, experience of the people involved , their safety awareness / decisions & actions , human error etc etc… Unfortunately, Kairali incident could be due to any or all above. Sailing out from the port in strong SW monsoon, at odd hours, under commercial pressure , with ( reported) faulty equipment , without properly securing for sea ( battening down hatch covers for water tight integrity ), with a cargo having TML ( Transportable Moisture Limit ) & prone to moisture hazard, ignorance of it’s consequences ( liquefaction / cargo shifting/ negative metacentric height ) etc etc could be the factors for the tragic incident. I don’t think that it’s a piracy incident or Insurance fraud. My deepest condolences & prayers to the family members of all those who were sailing on Kairali.

Sad to hear and can imagine your feelings sir...as a fellow mariner, i am 99% sure that the lose is due to cargo shifting, loss of gm and subsequent capscizing...but it was the Masters call..he could have refused to sail out with cargo above TML/improperly secured cargo/faulty equipments and machinery..the master fell a prey of commercial pressure, sailed out with an un seaworthy ship and took 40 odd innocent lifes along with him..

I have read about this incident as the story appeared in a Sunday supplementary in its 25th year of disappearance. I was a student then. Again two more times, I don'tremember exactly when. But the comment above provides a picture of finding an answer, filling that hole in the hearts of those souls who have lost their parents, husband's, kith and kin. Somewhere deep down in the sea bed, along the ship route, Kairali might be lying, waiting for technology and divers to spot her wreck. I hope someone might venture for it.

On reason could be high water content in iron ore .at sea when the water seperaration happens the ship becomes unstable on waves and capsizes. So now there are strict guidelines

"LIQUEFACTION" would have been the most significant cause of this incident which would have been magnified due to heavy weather causing instability resulting in capsizing of MV Kairali. Iron ore cargo is higly susceptible to liquefaction. In layman's terms liquefaction is the process by which a particular material absorbs water vapour from the atmosphere (also absorbs water ingress) and as a result the surface of the solid cargo acts like a liquid causing loss of stability (as the top layer moves along with the roll of the ship). Rough weather and liquefaction of the ship's cargo is a sure shot recipe for disaster. Modern seafarers are aware of these factors and a lot of checks take place before loading of such cargoes to prevent similar mishaps.

It is interesting to know that you were part of the search team. Yet ambiguous I felt from your disclosure that the team found lifebuoy of some other vessel too, as it suggests there was another ship wreck along the route. Was it really some other vessels, or a component of Kairali's oldest version? പലതിനെപ്പറ്റിയും കണക്കില്ല എന്ന് അവതരണത്തിൽ പറയുന്നു. I believe those life jackets belong to Kairali's crew, and the wreck might still be deep down in those coordinates. It requires an understanding of physical science to comprehend how the collapse? didn't leave a track of the parts as well as the loaded items.

It looks like somebody bought an old ship with government fund making profit, and then hastily formed a corporation to justify the money spending.

Ship might have suffered a cargo liquification followed by cargo shift which leads to stability loss and subsequently capzicing of the ship...this was very common in those days and we have lose 100s of bulk carrier ships like this..(from experiance of 10 yrs at sea)

@@LINESTELECOMCORDEDTELEPHONES High density cargo like iron ore if contains moisture above transportable moisture limits, during voyage due to ships movement and vibrating becomes viscous and starts to move around in ships cargo hold, subsequently killing the ships stability..its reported that Kairali was overloaded. So it's expected the cargo was above the allowed moisture limits..this happens due to commercial pressure the ship is expected to have..but the captain in no case should have sailed out with "improperly stowed cargo".in my view the capt himself (due to to the pressure from company) is responsible for the loss.

Right. Also, alternate hatch loading (if done) cause severe stresses, and the shear force can simply tear the ship within minutes. SCI and other companies with Indian seafarers lost many ships those days....sad.

Still remember that day the loss of friend father still remember my friend name godwin.cochin pattalam.

One more ship missed 2005 sept without any clue@ indian ocean ,Jupiter 6 and my brother was on that ship, Jupiter-6 sailed out from the Walvis Bay in Namibia on August 8 last year, towing a dead bulk carrier MV Pointing Ex-Satsung, to be scrapped in Alang in India. There has been no trace of the ships after Jupiter-6 stopped communicating with Mumbai-based Pelmar Shipping on 2005 September 5
