Kælan Mikla : Næturblóm (Live)
Meðlimir Kælunnar miklu kynntust í framhaldsskóla en hljómsveitin varð til fyrir hálfgerða tilviljun í ljóðakeppni fyrir sex árum. Þær leika ískalt rafpopp og eru stundum skilgreindar sem Dark Wave eða óttabylgja. Þær njóta vaxandi athygli erlendis og hafa leikið á stórum tónleikum og tónlistarhátíðum víða um Evrópu. Í því ljósi virðast markmið þeirra kannski öfugsnúin því næsta skref, um leið og ný plata kemur út í nóvember, er að ná í meiri mæli eyrum Íslendinga.
Kælan mikla was born almost by accident, at a poetry slam contest in school six years ago. They play freezing cold Dark Wave and have been reaching a growing audience outside Iceland, touring and playing festivals around Europe. It might seem odd but their next goal, following a new album release in November, is to reach the ears of more of their fellow Icelanders.

The lyrics are amazing, I just found this on Bandcamp: Nightflowers The night suits us best We wake up when the sun goes down When midwinter is at its darkest The nightflowers shine the brightest And they do it although we won’t find them here Because they ripped themselves up by the roots And now they’re standing on two feet And bloom in the lady that’s dancing next to me

I know ...right... When their new live recording pops up on you tube.. i am like, "ok ill put it to watch later, working now.. dont have time for whole set..".. " but ..ill just listen to first song...i like that one..".. then first song ends.. and i am like "ill listen to second one i like that too"... then .. "oooh the third one is awesome..cant stop the video now.." ... etc i end up listening to whole set ..XD
The bass sounds like The Cure (the early stuff) and the keyboards sound like Clan of Xymox. And I absolutely love it!
Beautiful post punk from Iceland. Music for a slow dance with eyes half closed and a cigarette at 4 am.

Iceland, please never change.
That bass... and the girl playing it...
The more you listen to it, the more it gets under your skin and creeps to your heart.
I met them in Switzerland after a show in 2018. They were really sweet and friendly.
Sólveig 😍🥰😛😘
It surprises me how the groups where there are women, their tones are always darker and very unique, such as Malaria !, Teenage Jesus and the jerks, the guitarist of The cramps etc. Seriously each of these girls stand out at what they do
Взяли и написали лучшую песню 2018 года. Просто взяли и покорили мое слабое сердечко.
I was a Goth in the 80's, this band has brought it all back, I have all 3 of their albums and can't stop listening to them, this track is amazing. Come and play in little Exeter, I can't wait to see what's next.

They are the best...
I love the fact that they did this in what appears to be an old building and the broken key on the keyboard. I like seeing people start from the bottom and working toward a better life. 100% Respect here..

I’m not trying to be a dick- really- but why do we need a new name for this? “Dark wave”, “cold wave”, this sounds essentially like mid 80’s to mid 90’s goth music. Have you ever listened to Siouxsie and the Banshees? Bauhaus?I’m not belittling them or saying they aren’t any good, I’m actually very impressed- but this is nothing new either.

@@praiseboognish1979 Dark wave and Cold wave not is a new name. this come from the 80's after siouxie, the cure, joy division, etc (post-punk era) but when mixed with synths, like an answer to New Wave pop, then born the "Dark Wave" like Clan of Xymox. And actually Kælan Mikla is Dark Wave and Synthpunk (and i'm so sorry if my english is wrong)

Amazing . Have been waiting for such haunting music for a very long time. Awestruck.
Thanks to KZread for suggesting this. Heard this song Friday and proceeded to listen to tons more by Kaelan Mikla all night...Saturday downloaded all I could find on apple music....Sunday ordered all of the CDs I could find online! What an incredible band, I love their recent stuff as much as the early tracks and everything in between. All three of them are exceptionally talented, love the bass lines, drum and electronic beats, keyboards, and the vocals finish their sound off perfectly. Just shows what you can do with pure, natural talent, no guitar needed or missed! If John Peel was alive they would have already recorded several sessions with him.
Como con muy poco se puede hacer mucho. Me encanta su sonido, tuve la gran suerte de verlas en directo y creo que van a crecer y evolucionar y pueden llegar adonde se propongan. Grandes jóvenes talentosas con pasión
