K. Curtis Lyle reads his poem "Why I Left St. Louis Soliloquy: Because They Will Make Up Your Dying Bed Blues" on November 16, 1977, at New College of California, San Francisco. The full-program video features a powerhouse introduction to the poets by Ishmael Reed, and extended readings of their work by Black Arts Movement poets Calvin C. Hernton (Umbra Poets Workshop founding member) and Lyle (Watts Writers Workshop founding member). The event was co-presented by the New College Poetics Program and The Poetry Center, San Francisco State University.
