JVC RC-M90 Boombox Repair Project (Part 3). Unboxing a Spares or Repair Donor Radio Cassette
Hi Folks,
The JVC RC-M90 project has been on the backburner while I catch up with previous repair project video production, and also while I investigated the best way to obtain some mising parts.
I have been able to secure a donor unit (which may become a project in its own right in the future) - but for now, it has most of the parts that I'd struggle to source any other way.
Join me as I take a quick look around the new unit, and see what we can salvage.

Not a bad price for a clean one these days. The scrap ones are a grand if you can find one. As you know, one of the things with many old appliances is the lack of shared external components. The M90 in particular has switchgear and knobs that you just can't get anywhere else. I'm hoping to look at mold making and 3D printing next year, to see if they are realistic alternatives to sourcing donor machines.

The discolour on the top back of the first unit you had a believe maybe sun damage. Been stuck in sunlight to much. I rubbed mine down with white spirit just the back top section that was affected and it came up well. As the plastic underneath is a dark grey colour so it looks fine. I was going to respray but i had no need in the end.
They really destroyed that unit.
