I'll be honest with you, I really hated it the first time I listened to it, but the song is a grower and I think it has the potential to become one of JT's most beloved songs.

    In the audio version you can hear his wife's voice: "Do you see me? Can you find me?" This song really describes Justin's FSLS era when he was a sex symbol. He and Jessica met in 2007 when he had that buzzcut))) In the end he disappears and goes "in the woods" where he will find himself. His life has changed since he met his wife and he'll continue telling his personal story by this album.

    When I first watched this, I wondered why JT would tease a Tennessee-roots album, then release a modern dance song with futuristic themes and suggestive content. I think it's on purpose. "Filthy" reminds me of FutureSex/LoveSounds. But the video and lyrics are a message to fans. Like JT is saying: "Guys, here's a song in my classic style, like the ones that made me a sex symbol many years ago." He's not bashing this type of music and dancing. It worked well for him when he was young and single in his 20s. But I think this is him saying "I'm not exactly that guy anymore." That's why it's the robot dancing on stage instead of him. He's a husband and father now. He's in a different place. I didn't get it until the girls came out. There's a moment when it cuts to JT and he's just looking at the audience, like he's wondering what they're thinking or if they get it. Remember, there are 15 more songs on this album. This was a prelude to the more personal stuff. I could be wrong, just my two cents.

But that was then, history will repeat itself soon and people will have more appreciation to risky sounds just like they did back in 2006 when JT and Timbaland introduced us t a whole new sound wave... just like back in 1981 when Prince came out... and so forth. “My personal thoughts on what the video was about: It was set as a concert in 2028 just ten short years from now, and the crowd didn't even care that it wasn't the actual artist on stage (our desire for cheap amusing entertainment over caring for the artistry of making and preforming music) and that the animation robot of Jt (was entrainment enough) then in the end he actually disappeared and the crowd didn't even notice they kept clapping. Metaphor for (Real music dying, and losing real artists by computers and Future A I composing songs) man in the woods will be real (jt) will keep producing real music and making real connections to his fan much like the connection between man and nature (in the woods)” - Libby Teeter

    Here's the deep meaning behind this video: The robot Justin look alike is an illusion represents the old edgy JT that did what the fans/media want, done all the *Filthy* stuff, JT backstage (who dressed as Steve Jobs on purpose), created and controls that robot The lyrics supports the "Robot = old edgy JT" message that the current JT trying to deliver in this song "I guess I got my swagger back" "Your friends" *the robot points at Justin* "My friends" *Justin points at himself* "Baby don't you mind if i do... Exactly what you like times two" Telling the fans if they'd mind it if he over do the things they like... Making it extra filthy, referring to how JT think he over did the 'sexy' image he delivered in the previous eras "No question I want it...Fire up & everybody smoking" He doesn't feel bad with the filthy image he created, as long as the fans enjoyed it In one of JT's interviews in the psst years he said something like "The showman Justin you see performing on stage is not really me, it's just a character I created on stage" Means the "Haters gonna say it's fake, so *REAL* " lyrics that's not just 'haters gonna hate' meme but it's referring to the fact "The haters were right, the old JT was fake it's not really me" So basically the robot is the character of THAT showman JT, and the real JT is the one backstage in this video Since it's just a character, JT probably when watching himself performing on stage he be like "oh wow I really did that? Is that me?" Which is why in 3:56 you see the real JT surprised while looking at the robot dancing/flirting with women JT disappeared at the end of the video, means he's done with that image, wants to leave that world and make a new image, of course he'd think that way after becoming a dad :p

    If people look at the album cover he is dressed in two ways, half outdoorsy/rugged and the other half is dressed tf up ...he feels at home in both worlds, hence man of the woods..he's a southern boy at heart, but he handles his fame/Hollywood life well. JT can codeswitch like a mofo! Robot kinda makes sense, he can't be reproduced, imitated yes, but he's one of a kind. He's the real deal, all around an amazing talent and an excellent entertainer, but who knows maybe the robot will be a theme in all his videos, or maybe it's not that deep at all. Glad he's back

    C James Ervin Ooooh good point!!! So maybe the album somehow seamlessly blends both sounds together or half the album could be songs like this, with the other half being more soulful tracks...or the album goes back and forth between different styles...? It'll be interesting to see, can't wait!

    MrTarantino clearly jt is using mind control to get you to react strongly to his music 🤣 I love jt but hey everyone isn't a fan. I heard this and thought hmm 🤔 same reaction I had to sexyback and suit &tie but this sound is slightly reminiscent of his futuresexlovesounds album which is my fav album of his, so I'm feelin it!

    Pono801 I'm not really sure why you're trying to use subjective terms to prove a point. Even if this isn't one of his biggest hits, there are plenty of us who do enjoy it. The 150 likes (as I type this) shows me that the song has fans. I'm sorry you don't like it, but the vitriol is a bit misplaced.

    I love the message behind this. You put out a glorified image of yourself on the social media, which people happen to like. And gradually your social appearance (controlled only by you) points out a person who lives this overly exposed life with everything being great and celebrated and gets praised by the people. However, this image ain't the real you and your true social image gets absorbed by the fake one and you seize to exist in the eyes of people.

    Road to Riches I get what you mean. However we all have an "avatar", society receives as our real selves. For instance if i keep uploading selfies with me always being in clubs or i dont know hiking etc you will see me as a "social butterfly", even though we all have our private moments, being sad and mad and being human. People often have a mistaken perspective of what is real and they dont really bother searching to get their facts right. Technology has helped a lot at projecting false facts and twisted realities.

    In the audio version you can hear a woman voice saying to him: "Do you see me? Can you find me? with a country guitar sounds in the backround" This song really describes Justin's FS/LS era when he was a sex symbol, singing electro/pop music, kind of futuristic music style, with a lot of dance, very precise choreographies, he was like a robot, like an object in a shop window, and that's what the video is telling us throught the robot figure, the choreography, the audience and the fact that the video takes place in 2028. In the end he disappears and goes "in the woods" where he will find himself. Back to the essential things of life like his wife and family. The rest of the album will be more country and folk, with a lot of acoustic instruments. And he'll continue telling his personal story by this album.

  • @RubyEyedRaven

    @RubyEyedRaven

    In context with the video he says “people are going to say it’s fake, so real” and then he disappears in the end is because the robot was real not his human figure. The robot was the one controlling everything. He might have been a robot when he was in *NSYNC, but his solo albums were all him.

    So here’s my thoughts... I feel like this song shows Justin as an inventor/scientist who feels like the robot is going to make him rich/successful and allow him to live it big in a city. At the end, we see Justin “disappear”. My theory is that Justin is transported back to Tennessee (from the trailer) to remind him of where he came from. (Justin also mentions that the album is heavily inspired by his home) Also note that this is the opening track of the album, meaning the next track will tell us what happened after Justin disappeared and what he experienced there. This setting change from a futuristic auditorium in 2028 to the country (in the present?) may also mean a deconstruction in sound, from the electronic sound in this song to a more acoustic album (or at least one with physical instruments) Let me know your opinions!!
