Felt Lee directed Justin’s choices a bit too much. He said 60% on an amp and didn’t let him scroll beyond £500 amps………then directed his choice of everything else. Lee excusing himself having been told about it before but then carrying on doing it 😂😂😂😂

Agreed. My Fender Highway One, the guitar I swore by, not at, for so many years, is currently in its case in my storage locker, usurped by the low-cost Jet JS 400 I took a chance on. As soon as I played that neck and felt the benefits of the rounded heel joint, I knew I’d found something special. Sure, I had to switch out the tuners (I always use Planet Waves locking anyway) and I upgraded the humbucker, but the connection was instantly there. I still love the Fender, and the versatility of having the humbucker aside, the jet is still on its stand ready for action.

Adore Justin. Back when I got my first place, I watched a video of his that came up in my recommendations. I went out the next day, bought a £40 Squire acoustic (still got it) and learned guitar. Fast forward to today and I play lead guitar in a band and write songs, all thanks to Justin really. Even now, if I can't work out a cover by ear, Justin is the number one guy I go to. :)

Great to see you working with Justin, he's the finest guitar teacher on the web and I have learned so much from him. My own feeling on this episode is that you could save money on a reverb pedal by buying a valve amp with inbuilt reverb. The Fender Blues Jr springs to mind. You can even get some nice natural overdriven tones by tuning up the volume, though I tend to use a Blues Driver so I don't need to change the amp settings when playing live.

I received my Sire S3 today from Andertons. Unbelievable price point. Straight out the box, it is usable. No problem with the set up really. I might lower the action a tad, but on the whole very good. I bought it to gig with, as I don’t really want to take my US Strat out. If I had to say one thing, I’m not too enthusiastic about the pickups in the s3. But roll off the volume on the guitar and it chimes. I might change them out one day. But the whole point was to have a great value player that I won’t mind too much if it gets a few bruises. Great guitar

I think the Marshall Origin 20c is underrated and overlooked by so many. I have gigged with mine and use the onboard power soak (attenuator) at home to keep things sensible. Excellent pedal platform, relatively easy to transport and has options to run a further cab extension (I have run my 2 x 12 Zilla off it)... I really hope more people try this Marshall

Well, the Ibanez AZES40 really stood out. I have a 335 semi JSM by them and it is excellent. I never really looked at their Strat or Tele variations, but for only 249L that sounded exceptional. And it's nice to have a "humbucker" equivalent wired in. What this video absolutely reveals is the astronomical increase in the cost of pedals. I own three and I'm probably not buying any new ones anytime soon. (Yes, I am frugal) But I'm going to keep my eye on that guitar.

Pedals are clearly an addiction for gearheads. For the price of three pedals you can get a multi effects pedal board with hundreds of sounds. The individual pedals are soon to be a boomer anachronism, like record albums.

@@charliedillon1400 I agree. To stay under 1000, I would have chosen the Bassbreaker or the Vox, a cheap EQ pedal and maybe the Squier Paranormal Nashville that popped up for only 299 (reg 399). Plus had 100 or so left over for cables, stand and carfare.

Just for fun.....instead of the Blues Driver & Hall Of Fame 2 pedals, i would be really happy with just using the NuX Cerberus (GBP249 @ Andertons) with the above Marshall Origin 20 & that Sire S3 (tho i would have gone for the HSS model & btw, Sire S7 HSS is my no 1 favourite low to mid budget gtr). I have both the Hall Of Fame 2 & the Blues Driver (& loads of other stomp boxes, digital & analog) but i also have the NuX Cerberus (which i plan to partner it with the new Boss IR2 "Amp In A Box" pedal, a near future purchase for me once its available in my country, Malaysia...). The price total of the Boss BD 2 & HOF 2 are almost the same with the Nux Cerberus but the Cerberus gives u 2 great sounding analog drives (Blues Breaker type OD & a distortion), a really, really good sounding modulations effects (3 types of chorus, one tremolo, one phaser & one Univibe), 3 good sounding delays, 3 reverbs (which sounds as good as the HOF 2), a clean boost (for solo), a switchable on or off IR cab, an effects loop, stereo or mono output, etc. The Nux Cerberus has loads of knobs without having to go into menus. U can play it like a typical "Tap Dancing" with all those fx as single stomps boxes style OR u can get asound u like & save it as presets (which is my preferences & with up to 128 presets), six footswitches, compact size..... But, again, these are just my 2 cents for the fun of it..... 😃😃

Sounds great. On a strict budget, there's the TC Electronic Cinders too, which sounds damn near as good as the Blues Driver, for 1/3 the price. Could squeeze the budget to just about £1000 for the Sire, Origin, HoF and Bucket Bridage with the Cinders. I got a Earthquaker Plumes and a BD-2 Waza, and I love both. But, if I had to choose only one, the Plumes is more versatile, with it's three settings. Especially if using a valve amp that can be boosted into good pre-amp crunch anyway. With a solid-state or modelling, maybe I'd go BD-2 Waza, it's more amp-like. My pick would probably be the b-stock Sire H7, Vox AC10 (in-built reverb) and Earthquaker Plumes. Or EHX Glove + TC Bucket Brigade to go very slightly over budget. My other pick choice might be Vox AC10c1, Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster and Behringer Super Fuzz FS-300 dual fuzz/boost. Because the boost mode into ac10c1 would give me overdrive, and the two fuzz tones are very different.

This may well be the best guitar gear video out there. As long as you listen to everything Justin says and ignore everything Lee says. Lee has proven through hundreds of videos that he knows nothing about sound but a whole lot about using established myths to sell guitars. Justin is level headed, practical and experienced. He knows the sound of the guitar is insignificant compared to what happens to the signal after it has left the guitar. The only slight mistake was choosing a valve amp.

Justin's playing is off the charts tasty! And that origin sounded great with that Sire guitar. But wasn't a big fan of the combination with the blues driver. He should have gone with a klon copy from ehx or that sweet baby od from joyo or something

Watched Justin's videos for a while before I finally had to search bio because I just couldn't quite make out the (Aussie?) accent. Turns out he's Tasmanian! I knew I was in the ballpark.

Thank goodness you chose Justin and his tasteful playing rather than Chappers and his 'machine gun firing down a lift shaft' playing.

Put a noise gate on and you won't have that 60 cycle hum!!! I recommend the T C Electronic Sentry, it is excellent.

I think with all of the global price increases, mostly COVID related, you might want to bumped the limit to 1200.

Seems like a Boss Katana 1-12 with a footswitch and the same strat guitar would have been a much better value with all the effects you need built in. And you'd have about $250 left over!

That rig sounded great. Sounded totally recordable and giggable.

Here’s my recommended starter pack… 1 X Fender custom shop master built Jerry Garcia Alligator Stratocaster £18999 plus 2 x Magnatone Slash Signature 100 watt amp head and 4x12 cab amp bundle (to run in stereo)£7499 plus an Echo Fix EF-x2 tape echo £2275 …all for a lazy £36,272. If you are starting guitar, by the end of your life, you’ll spend that much anyway. Early pain, lifetime gain.
