I would argue that Justice League was hardly a kids show. The target audience was more likely aimed towards teens and adults, since this show often aired during primetime TV and had more mature themes than what kids could understand. Not to say kids couldn't watch it, but it was clearly meant to be understood by older audiences.

Lex is ultimativly jelous of Amazo. In this scene, he tries to inspire Amazo to become what Lex wants himself to become. But Amazo is not convinced. So Lex, disapointed, throws basic philosophy at him, and leaves the conversation. You can tell by the change in Lex's voice and face. Hes enthusiastic at first. But then disapointed when Amazo doesnt 'get it'.

Chances are excellent if he had succeeded, there wouldn't be a Lex Amazo..there would be a BRAINIAC Amazo. Much like the series finale where the fragments of Brainiac still in his system are steering Lex to bring him back..only as a last "screw you" to Lex, Tala brings back DARKSEID instead. Lex's arrogance inevitibly leads to him biting off more than he can chew in just about every iteration of him that ever existed.

Shows like this that have deeper conversations and topics always peaked my interest way more than cartoony shows with a lot of colors and sound effects. A child can be trained from birth to be a warrior like spartans, or be protected from all things and made soft, unthinking like many children today. This version of Lex shows just how powerful intelligent and charismatic characters can be. He's literally in the palm of Amazo's hand, Amazo could destroy him with a thought. But by the end of the conversation it's Lex who's giving the orders, Lex is the one in control. I think it's similarity well illustrated by the fact that in the finale his "power suit" that he changes into to face the New God Darkseid is literally his tailored business suit.

    @8Rincewind

    11 ай бұрын

@@TipoIrritable I meant Lex was in control of the conversation. A less confident and charismatic character would be on their knees, whimpering, begging for their lives and saying whatever Amazo wanted them to say. As soon as Lex realised Amazo wanted something from him and wasn't going to immediately kill him, he started bending Amazo to his will and giving him orders. At the end of the clip Amazo is really considering killing Lex and possibly destroying loads of other things. Charm relies on people being open to talking and listening. Sure, charisma is unlikely to stop a raging mindless Hulk from choking you or a cold contract killer from shooting you with a sniper rifle. (Though there are definitely cases where the Hulk or a sniper could be talked down). Part of the strength of charismatic characters is they avoid having enemies that they cannot handle through other means. Confidence, intelligence and charm can give you amazing control even when they have power over you in other ways. All the other stuff you mentioned is irrelevant. I was just talking about how Lex had control in this conversation with Amazo and later in his conversation with Darkseid.

Nah, that's why I don't read superhero comics that much. Creators of the characters are not the philosophers, they are guys who make cool heroes, then figure out a way to make them do a cool fighting. When you think about all those speeches, they're empty in nature. “We create purpose for ourselves”, wrong, if you don't have purpose, you can't create it, it would be making something out of nothing. That's why there are thousands of religions, people need to believe there's a force above them to govern their existence, not having it means not having any fundamental purpose. “I need to see where this is going”, you know already where this is going, Luther. It is going into endless evolving. And into endless knowledge gathering. You live forever, you just ponder at why you're doing it forever. If you really wanted to change it, should've tried to reprogram your human brain into brain that doesn't care about when does it all end, lol. So, those villains are not thought provoking, really. If you really try to think about what they're feeding you, you'll be thinking of them as idiots. Smartest villains are those who don't talk much and just smash stuff, like Godzilla.

@@meyearsago-lc8bq IDK what you're talking about, because I enjoyed the philosophy I read in comics, growing up. I remember Stan Lee had a very interesting take on his characters. And the whole "mutant argument" is very compelling to those of us who are "minorities". False, we all have a purpose. It's just a question of finding said purpose. Wrong. Luthor is supposedly the smartest human in DC, so his thought processes are unfathomable to we "mere mortals". It's comparable to us as child vs us as adults. We see the world differently, as we accumulate more knowledge. And any scientist would love to live long enough to see an experiment thru to the end as well as how it affects generations to come. And no, the greatest villains are those who make us think. Mind over matter, brains over brawn, etc., etc.

@@MoCa1979Jr I think I know what he's talking about. Basically the voice actor who played Lex Luther (Clancy Brown) also voiced a character called Red Death in a show called Venture Bros. The character had this speech where he talked about the suspense and sadistic nature of old school villains (you should be able to find it on KZread) Personally, I think there is room for both kinds of villains in a narrative and it depends on where and how you write them. While I agree that villains that make you think can add a lot of flavor and nuance to the narrative overall, if you make them too sympathetic or try to force the complexity, it can come to bite you in the ass (looking at you, Saw). There are a lot of great villains that don't have a complex motive but are still remembered fondly through pure performance. Whether making the audience laugh or instilling unsettling fear, their performance alone is enough to make them stand out It's one of the reasons why I love Puss And Boots The Last Wish because it has all three types of villains: The Sympathetic, the Comedic Psychopath, and Pure Fear

I consider amazo the ultimate powerful android hero. I imagine him having other more powers he copied: The X-Men, The Brotherhood, Static shock and meta human villains Ebon, Hotstreak, Shiv, Permafrost, Graviton and Omni-man. He'd wiped many number of supervillains in my hero academia one by one. Showing those fallen heroes how it's done. Many people would see him as hope and as well deku too. He'd say to him "Leave it to me, midoriya. None super villains stand no chance against me. Not even, all for one." He'd speak telepathy to million super villains "Attention to all super villains. Death is coming to you! There is no mercy for none of you! You cannot hide from me! DIE!" A number of many would be terrified and be ready to fight for their lives. No superheros could do what is necessary. Deku may not approve of what amazo does, but if it means the end all for one. That is for the best.

The amazing thing is that even while espousing some of the wisest thoughts in life, Luthor is lying through his teeth about his intentions. “You’ll live forever, you’ll be able to see it all” What he’s really saying is “with that power I could beat time and death, become a god.” He is unable to apply his wisdom to himself, instead simply trying to be in control. Never imbuing his actions with a purpose beyond a misjudged survival instinct.

Really Interesting opinion on what the situation is. GOD this series was great. Was luthor lying? He def would to save his life-he is very good at manipulating others. And his advice isn’t exactly being followed by him. Afterall, he seems more in awe by your cited quote that amazo is a god-that amazo did best time. And of course lex tries to control others to his Will. We know lex is trying to do so-he builds a suit to upgrade his body-l and when he fuses with Braniac, lex becomes addicted to the fusion. E aide he thought he was a god. When in reality he was just a human-robot thing that was beaten. Even grodd seems unimpressed by lithor’s declaration that he became a god in those moments to; kind a like a “oh there he goes again. Another villain who thinks he is the most powerful being ever.”

But I do think lex was being truthful. He prob gets why amazo is feeling that way. He even admits that he will be forgotten which u could never imagine lex doing. His evil desires stem from his wish to be remembered for all of time. We also assume that as lex is a scientist that he WPULD be excited by changes. He even slightly praised amazo by saying he gets to see how the whole universe plays out-something he prob wishes to sees. Yes lex has a desire to stay alive, but in his whole speech thanks to clsncy’s perfromance we get lex at prob at his most vulnerable. He knows he could die right now if he didn’t speak honestly or if he said the wrong thing. But perhaps it’s what lex says after he walks away. He tells the android “I was afraid of you but now seeing how fragile you are -I PITY you.” This indicates to me that lex is genuine-he is one percent confdecent in himself

Every time Amazo ask what he need to do Lex is slightly annoyed, he believe that Amazo should seek his own self purpose self improvement instead of relying on someone else to make that answer for him. It’s why I grew to understand why Lex hate super man. He the end, a physical being that show the end of evolution and how one can only gain it through helping others not through self improvement but altruism. Lex rather see no end, to some people that scary to know no end to how greater you can be but to Lex is a beautiful thing one that Amazo has shown proof that there is no limit

Being that he is a scientist of his caliber that makes perfect sense for him to say that! And to tell Amazo. "We create our own purpose in life, now go create yours." And it's not just physical power or immortality he's looking for either. Remember the time he fused with brainiac? Ever since he lost him, he became completely obsessed with trying to recreate him somehow, because he knows that he can't get immortality on his own. He needs allies, resources, influence. Before superman showed up, he practically ran the entire city of metropolis. To obtain his ultimate goal, he's searched for answers and taken advantage of political, intellectual, physical, and who knows how many other forms of power to try and reach his end goal. He doesn't just want to be an immortal, he wants to be a deity, ruling over the world for an eternity.

To think, the most powerful Superheroes on Earth (including the Man of Steel himself) can't even slow A.M.A.Z.O down, and yet a man like Lex Luthor of all people can talk him down with just a short speech? I think perhaps that if Luthor's pride and greed weren't constantly blinding him to his own flaws, he would be a great force for good.

Yea that's how everybody learns to be a good person - kill until you learn it's bad. .Batman is a psychopathic murdering vigilante instead of a dark detective with a moral compass which differentiates him from his enemies - " He will be eventually, he's just tired. But soon he'll stop killling and be back to his no-killing self!" Lex luthor is a bumbling twiggity idiot whose plans make no sense, instead of the 12th level criminal genius. "He will be eventually, he's just starting out. Maybe it's his father and this isn't the real lex? Of maybe he'll stop making stupid plans in no time" What's Zach's plan. 15 films before they actually become their core self!

Follow your path because when you're told by the people who tell you to follow the typical way of thinking like everyone else because it's good, when they pass on to the afterlife, you're gonna be left with the vacuum of not having those people watch you settle with a life you got comfortable with what guidance they gave you. Follow your path, tell the difference between good people and bad people because anyone can be good with bad qualities that stop you from achieving your goals and bad people can have good natured encouragement to give you. The trick is in what you want in life. It's all on you and while there are many things in life to choose from, remember to allow yourself to fail first and never pick one single goal. Many small goals and when you get comfortable enough, reach higher until you've essentially outgrown your surroundings and ascend into your true self. Just don't abandon those that guided you. And always believe that the stepping stones are the true reason we live. Not for the goal itself. You'll lose yourself when you make it to your goal and get blinded by a false sense of security. Enjoy the stepping stones and fail often. But in reality as someone once said, "Fail forward". Love ya little one and go be great and remember that not all boomers like myself are out to destroy your dreams. You'll always have people like me around the world at all times so just don't fall like the other awful humans did... but those are mine to take care of so we will handle the current problems somehow and keep pushing forward as the world needs people who can change the world for our future kids and their kids down the line. Very wise actualy, he isn't clinging to the past (Batman) or trying to think himself human by sticking to a rigid mindset (Superman), he simply seeks to evolve and transcend. Which is why I have no clue why they didn't exploit the Luthor-Brainiac merge further, he could have become an enlightened despot in an alternate future.

I don't think it's jealousy. I think it's logical, understandable concern. Injustice proves Luthor has /always/ been right about Superman. The trick is he just doesn't feel compelled to find a PG resolution to the conflict. His entire definition as a man who is a villain comes from not wanting to go out of his way to be nice. That's it. He's never been written as honestly malicious. Not in and of itself. CROSS HIM and he'll laugh at your grave, but he's no Joker. He doesn't kill/harm for it's own sake. And MOST of what he wants is actually good for humanity, if only because improving humanity means he has a greater world to rule.

What astonishes me about Luthor (at least in this episode) was that...we really got a deeper side to him than I thought possible, even back then (and I originally watched this as...what...when I was 11? 12 max). Luthor is a human, an ant, a weakling in face of all these gods of superheroes and super villains. He doesn't have anything to his name other than money and subsequent power over fellow humans. In the end, he's nothing but a cheat on scum. But...even Amazo, a being that is literally the culmination of these so called gods...cannot deny Luthor's knowledge, or at least the (putting it in simple terms) "Going around the block a few times" knowledge. Luthor knows his weakness, and has come to accept it. Even if Amazo has attained the abilities of stars, galaxies, alien races far beyond human capabilities, and technologies far beyond that...he's still a child that wants to get his lollipop from the top of the fridge where your daddy hid it from you. He has no purpose, he was simply built to be a body guard for his creator and Luthor ended up "corrupting" that. He's lost, and has no way out. Luthor is weak, he's nothing. He can be squashed by even the weakest of super heroes with ease, and his super suit doesn't do jack against people who aren't kryptonian either. No...he truly is nothing. However, his intellect proves he is on par with gods in that right alone. So what if he isn't perfect...at least he understood how to get that metaphorical lollipop faster than anybody else.

I think that's what makes the dynamic between Superman and Lex Luthor interesting. There's a god who's trying to become human and a human trying to become a god. Lex has wealth, power, vast knowledge, and fame, yet he craves more. That's because even Lex knows that the "greatest" of us can't compete with time and death (like he mentions). He knows he'll die someday and even in this episode he knows with the disease he has he will go at any moment. The one thing Lex and any human wants in life is to make a mark in life (or create a reasoning for living).

You know, it's specially ironic to think that the heros tried to stop Amazo only using brute force to the very end, while Luthor, a villain of all people, was the only one that actually tried diplomacy. The more I stop to analize it the more I realize that this was a crazy episode for many different reasons.

@@ultimategamer2669 Lex did try firearms first, but you're right. I suppose the biggest flaw of all Heroes is that they can never see another way. Their way - the heroic way - is what they persist to be the only way to stop evil. For Lex, any way that benefits him is good. While a very immoral approach, it does lend to more creative solutions.

Cheezus Mice but that makes for a really interesting character. A man who used his talents, thinking he always wins, using a great deal of his life to beat death. He’s then confronted by one of his greatest failures and realizes that it’s pretty much meaningless. That it’s left him bitter, distant, and angry. But also wiser. DCAU Lex might be one of my favorite characters in superhero fiction. Possibly even fiction in general. It’s such an interesting character study.
