Colossians 2:13-15 gives us one of the most definitive reasons to believe our sins can be forgiven through Christ. Notice that all of our sins are nailed to His cross where he took the complete punishment that our sins deserved. Because our sins were nailed to the cross, God has completely obliterated the evidence of our sin that stood against us. This work was so definitively accomplished that Paul calls it a triumph, a final victory. "13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities[a] and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him."
