They had to complete the time loop of Hodor becoming Hodor. That’s why they went back to that specific moment in time

For sure, if that hadn’t happened he may never have been there in the present, helping them on their journey or holding the door to keep Bran alive

Meera kept saying "Warg into Hodor!" and Bloodraven said "Listen to your friend." Then he tried to Warg into past Hodor and shorted out his brain. Bloodraven knew Bran would need Hodor to be someone he could control. Also now that I think about it, Varamyr Sixskins said once you've entered the mind of an animal it's easier to enter it again. Maybe this also meant since Bran warged past Hodor (but only with the powerboost from the Weirwood paste) meant earlier Bran would have an easier time doing it initially.

This is one of those times where time travel shenanigans can get annoying and nonsensical if you think about it for more than 5 seconds. Needing to repeat a mistake in the past because the mistake happened and needs to happen again for a loop is such an empty path of logic, because what it ultimately means is that there was never any natural reason for the mistake to happen in the first place. The concept of a "first iteration" of events doesn't exist, which also trivializes any choices by the characters as the concept of "fate" alongside a time loop means that no one has to "try" to ensure things happen a certain way; things will play out the same regardless. That is, unless, the story wishes to include the concept of different branching timelines running parallel to each other, which is an entirely different set of bloat.

@@vindifferenceI was listening to a podcast they were talking about time travel and I was gonna mention the branching, and yeahhhhh it's just better not to think about the science behind time travel, just accept it lmfao
Hodor is so tragic 😭😭😭 this was the death scene i cried the most for so far in the show i was SOBBING because i was so shocked and heartbroken. He got traumatized by his own death since he was young, and his life was ruined yet it stayed leading right to this moment, his death. Hurts so much, what a scene

My neighbor sobbed so loud when this aired I went to check on him. Fearing hed really been hurt. I usually threw a watch party and we were all a puddle. After he started to come over sometimes to watch with us.
Hodor can hold the door against the undead for so long because he's got part giants blood in him.
If you go back to when he first saw Willis in the past, Bran comes back from his vision and says something like, "You could talk. What happened to you?" Hodor pauses for a moment and looks at him sadly and replies, "Hodor." The portrayal is so evokative, and knowing his end, it feels like Hodor knew all along what was going to happen to him, as though, perhaps, the seizure that changed him was actually a vision of his own death. Truly haunting.

Yeah I agree, and the way I saw it was he experienced his own death twice. God I feel so much for poor Hodor
@neighborMin

I suspect it was more than a vision for him... I always felt his mind melded with that moment in the future and it sort of... Broke him... Especially since he wouldn't fully understand what was happening I think it overwhelmed his mind until it just fried and left him like a small child.

In the books he is afraid of dark places like the Winterfell crypts and it’s theorized that this is because he still remembers the vision of his death in this cave.

Right?! And I’ve loved every rendition
The "hold the door" moment was one of the most surprising scenes out of the whole show for me. GOT has a lot of shocking moments but that got me *good* - probably because I wasn't expecting there to be any sort of story behind it. I just figured he had some sort of language disorder
The red wedding made me angry, this just makes me sad JUSTICE FOR HODOR 😭😭😭 and I’ll be your friend I don’t have any either lmao
“I wish I could see what’s going on” oh no Season 8 is going to be a struggle I swear 90% of it took place at night

Yup. Grey men battling in grey places in grey weather at night.
this is probably the only non-book scene that really got me the way the book-based ones did (along with Sansa and Jon reuniting!) because its so GRRM to make this tragic, noble life for this boy. the fact that Bran skinchanged him in the past and robbed him of his normal life, so he could steward Bran into the future and die protecting him like this is just so tragic
@helenogrady4544

That's because it's one of the few scenes/ spoilers GRRM gave the writers beyond the end of the books

This show will do it to ya
They went back to that moment in time because the 3ER has been to everywhere in the past and the future, so he had already seen Hodor both have his seizure in the past as well as die holding the door in the future. He took Bran there to make sure it happened. It was less about Bran absorbing memories from the tree because he can do that at any heart tree, and more with making sure Bran lived long enough to be able to do that at all
The episode “The Door” always makes me sob. It’s so tragic no matter how you look at it. The acting is top notch and in the scene with the white walker vision you can see Bran getting a growing sense of unease. Up to that point Bran thought he was safe from anyone seeing or hearing him in the visions. I don’t think he knew there were exceptions. His face as Hodor/Wylis was saying “Hold the door” was both horrified and heartbroken. I always loved Hodor and one of the things that made me cry the most was that they played the Stark theme in his final moments. Rip Hodor. Some heroes don’t wear capes, they hold the door. 😭💔
“Like a grape.” 💀 Like always Brad killing it with the editing.

Classes or volunteering can great ways to make friends as an adult. You have to put yourself out there. Suit up & show up ad dad would say.
@pinsandneedles3
2 ай бұрын
@@theConquerersMama I know that. I have two volunteer gigs actually! I have formed surface level friendships (for lack of a better term) through them. Where I struggle is creating those deep friendships where we can truly trust and rely on each other. I have chosen to be closeted at one of the volunteering jobs because I volunteer through a church (and have come across a bunch of homophobes) so there's immediately like... a degree of separation between me and anyone I meet there I know you didn't ask for my life story but... Anyone who is lonely already knows they need to "put themselves out there". If it only was that simple 😮💨😮💨
@theConquerersMama
2 ай бұрын
@pinsandneedles3 oh dear. First I meant this as a general observation. I don't know you personally. Hearing a bit more brings out my Mother side. It makes me sad that your church is not welcoming. I grew up in a welcoming parish. Rare in the 70s/80s or even 90s. So that's not my experience. My heart bleeds for all the people who don't have this gift. There is no end to self righteous "Dickons" out there. So volunteering at a LGBTQ friendly cause might be a start but you know your life better than I do with my simple platitudes. True, deep friendships and bonds take time. That's harder as adults. As kids people are forced through proximity to spend more time together - whether through school, teams or work. As adults we don't do what I call boredom bond. The moments where deep friendships tend to manifest naturally. I do wish you luck. Finding friends is hard. Surface friends can become more given time. People don't need to be your everything/perfect partner. Sometimes it starts with just fanning over the same special interest/artist/ cause. Apologies if this came off condescending rather than older person looking back at life. 💜
14:44 the acting is soo good here , u can see how much he means to Dani , all they have been through with each other
My tears just start running down my face with Hodor scene. After so many years, I still crying.
The fact that Hodor knew how he would die all these years....
I was at a comic convention last weekend and saw a door stop that had HODOR in the game of thrones font. Still too soon!!!
Hodor's storyline and death was heartbreaking💔. He literally served and was sacrificed for the Starks. He deserved better 😢
@neighborMin
2 ай бұрын
And the possibility that he lived all those years aware, at least to the degree his damaged mind could be, that he had a terrifying, painful death in his future. At least Bran had the decency to look horrified at what he'd caused
RIP Hodor. You were the best of all of 'em 🥹
So. My theory; on some level/plane of existence, this has already happened. Hodor has been Hodor for as long as anyone can remember, so therefore he must already have been through this in the past to be the Hodor he is today. If holding the door had never happened, he wouldn’t be Hodor, he’d still be Wylis. In order to become Hodor, for Bran to escape with him, travel to the Three Eyed Raven, yada yada no spoilers, he has to die at this exact point. So Bran had to go back to the past, for this to happen.
@CsprsSassyHrly
2 ай бұрын
This is my take on it as well. Time is a big figure 8 track where everything that’s happened has already happened. We’re seeing the “present” in these episodes but in order for us to get here, it already had to happen in the “past”, when all of this that we’re seeing now was the “future”.
I love how you are mad asking why Bran stayed in the memory when it “wasn’t important”, but then immediately connect the dots about it all being a time loop😂 Not like the three eyed raven told him to listen to his friends (one of whom was shouting hold the door)..
FUCK YES I BEEN WAITING LIKE A FERAL FUCKING HOUND ON THE STREETS
When she visited Loras in his cell, Margaery was shocked to find a tortured, broken man. Loras trembled and cried and begged, “Make it stop!” She knew this was a threat from the High Sparrow. For love of her brother she will now do whatever it takes to save Loras’ life.❤
NO SPOILERS! Only comment on this installment. Thanks 💜

Not going to lie... the Hodor episode kills me. My wonderful son is a gentle giant - 6'3" and nonspeaking/non verbal autustic. Sweet as pie and loves to help. I always told him he's on earth for a reason. Then saw this.

Not me sobbing all over again at the Hold the Door scene, nodding away while Brad thinks his way through it all 😭
Dickon is an old nickname for Richard, famously used in reference to King Richard III. George R.R. Martin based Game of Thrones on the Wars of the Roses, so I'm guessing that's maybe where he took the name from. The shorter form, Dick, is probably better known, and nowadays we tend to say Rick, Ricky, Ritchie etc.
Brad + GOT + Drag memes + Miranda memes = 🥵✨
OMG, I've never clicked on a video so fast in my life! I live for these got reactions. Thanks, Brad, for your amazing commentary-may your wit be as sharp as Valyrian steel!
Literally just a completely random fun fact: the ring on the necklace that Dany wears (the same one she dropped when she was being surrounded) was her mothers ring 😭 idky, but that gets me. Like that’s all she’s got left of her mom.
You are correct when you captioned Hodor sounds scared. In the books anytime Bran warged into Hodor, he could feel Hodor's fear and terror. He could taste the bile in the back of Hodor's throat because he was so scared.
the hodor thing is so devastating, the realisation that his whole purpose for all that time was so save them by holding the door 🥺
😂😂parents create children that they don’t know how to get rid of all the time 😂😂
Bran is essentially uploading the entire history of the world into his brain.
When she says he killed a white walker, the brother laughs but not the dad, implying he believes they exist, at least.
BRAD YOU HAVE THOUSANDS OF FRIENDS WE ALL WANT TO thats for sure... honestly watching things with you makes me less lonely so thanks for that 💓💓💓
Whoever they got to play The Mad King was literally amazing it gives me chills every single time
All these years, and I still think of Hodor… 😢
Love these Brad! Keep them coming! Hodor!❤
After this episode aired all the GoT fans held the door for hodor’s actor wherever he went😂 it was a whole phenomenon really
Awww Brad, I’ll be your friend. I’m in the states & probably 15yrs older, but we could all use friends in this chaotic world. I still cry EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear young Hodor crying “hold the door” 😭 I was inconsolable the first time.
Ive already seen the entirety of GOT but rewatching it through you has been SO cathartic
Love the insert of one of my all time favourite Miranda Hart moments (from her kids catching death of cold ramble) 😂

Wait. I’ve caught up?! Noooo I was binging! 😩 now you mean to tell me I have to … wait?!… the agony! 😂
Brad, I loved your reaction to these two episodes so much and I absolutely cannot wait to see your reaction to the rest of the season! This is my favorite season as it’s full of so many incredible moments! One of the things I loved was just how awesome Sam’s mother and sister were. Even when they found out that Gilly was a wildling they still treated her like the amazing woman she is. I loved Sam’s mother standing up for him, it made me cry. Tbh every scene with her treating Sam like he should be treated made me cry. 🥹🥰
brad you are an absolute GEM xx
The "butterfly effect" is a concept from chaos theory. Small changes can lead to large, unpredictable consequences. In the context of "Game of Thrones," the actions of individual characters often have far-reaching and unexpected effects on the story's plot and the fates of other characters. These ripple effects are a central theme in the narrative, as the decisions and actions of characters can have significant and sometimes unintended consequences for the world of Westeros and beyond.
Brad I love your damn editing. The sound effect on Euron when he woke and gasped for air really got me giggling
Wanted to click this so fast. I was literally on my kids field trip and got so excited realizing I had something to look forward to when getting home. Also, I cry EVERY time the Hodor scene happens. Also, can't wait to watch you watch Season 7.... It is Dickon. 😂
I sobbed my eyes out after Hodor's death, and yes we can be friends 😂
"Not fat enough already?" 👀😂
If you think the name Dickon itself is funny there’s another Dickon in the books beside this one whose surname is Manwoody. Dickon Manwoody 😂😂😂😂😂

Hi! No one on the internet entertains me like you do! I look forward to your GOT reactions the most! Thank you!
Brad wants new friends y’all! Send him some love on here 💜💚💜
Hodor dying is when I quit the show. I was so upset, I couldn't continue. I cried then and I cried again watching your reaction. Traumatizing.
A month late answer, however, the Children of the Forest would've been able to kill them with dragon glass (obsidian), but given the war with mankind and their appearance, they could not get close to any to make weapons. Obsidian points were used against the First Men, but they broke against their bronze armor.
Ngl you caught the Hold the Door bit WAY faster than a lot of other channels. Shit was awesome bro 😂
In that time loop, young Hodor experienced his own death from that moment in the future... all thanks to Bran´s powers.
Brad hearin Dicons name is the same reaction as Brons😂😂
If you have a hard time seeing now, wait til you get to the last season. There's an episode so dark my household had to turn off all the lights to be able to see it 😅
Omg I needed you to post! Life has been feeling meh but now I gotta 46 min distraction. Thx love ❤️
I always cry when I see the scene of Hoder 😢😢😢 I love your reactions, Brad ❤❤
I don’t trust people who aren’t fully sobbing to that hold the door scene
The children did create an instrument to undo the evil they created - the same obsidian (dragon glass) they created him with and they probably didn’t know that there was an impact from Valyrian steel but I suspect that the house swords made with the metal have some dragon glass worked into them. The mystery of how they were made was kept secret and when the smiths of old Valyria died off the way the swords and other weapons were made died with them.
Hold the door wrecked us all when it first aired. To think that’s been building since the pilot and we had no idea
Just got home, I love this timing for me 🥰
You're asking the good questions, you see? That's why we like you.
This one always kills me! I still cry
There is a concept about creating something that you can’t control. Like the book Frankenstein - he creates it basically out of ego but he can’t stop it
I STILL cry every time I see this episode.
3:53 speaking of being friends, I literally ran into someone in South Africa 🇿🇦 who looked exactly like you, and I approached him with full confidence in being friends with him. Only to find that he doesn’t even know you☹️ the saddest day of my life. I just left him there, didn’t even say goodbye 😫
The relationship between Jorah and Daenerys is even creepier in the books, she's 13 at the first book and 16 by the end of the last (the equivalent of S5). They even kiss!!
“Fresh Wiggery” took me out 😂😂😂
Thanks for this I really enjoy your reactions
I’d LOVE to be your friend Brad!!!! 😁🤣 And Wednesday (tomorrow) is my BIRTHDAY!!! 😁
Bran created a destiny for Hodor in that moment and he knew what he had to do. Such a gutting scene. Makes me cry every time!
