    Meera kept saying "Warg into Hodor!" and Bloodraven said "Listen to your friend." Then he tried to Warg into past Hodor and shorted out his brain. Bloodraven knew Bran would need Hodor to be someone he could control. Also now that I think about it, Varamyr Sixskins said once you've entered the mind of an animal it's easier to enter it again. Maybe this also meant since Bran warged past Hodor (but only with the powerboost from the Weirwood paste) meant earlier Bran would have an easier time doing it initially.

    This is one of those times where time travel shenanigans can get annoying and nonsensical if you think about it for more than 5 seconds. Needing to repeat a mistake in the past because the mistake happened and needs to happen again for a loop is such an empty path of logic, because what it ultimately means is that there was never any natural reason for the mistake to happen in the first place. The concept of a "first iteration" of events doesn't exist, which also trivializes any choices by the characters as the concept of "fate" alongside a time loop means that no one has to "try" to ensure things happen a certain way; things will play out the same regardless. That is, unless, the story wishes to include the concept of different branching timelines running parallel to each other, which is an entirely different set of bloat.

    Hodor is so tragic 😭😭😭 this was the death scene i cried the most for so far in the show i was SOBBING because i was so shocked and heartbroken. He got traumatized by his own death since he was young, and his life was ruined yet it stayed leading right to this moment, his death. Hurts so much, what a scene

    If you go back to when he first saw Willis in the past, Bran comes back from his vision and says something like, "You could talk. What happened to you?" Hodor pauses for a moment and looks at him sadly and replies, "Hodor." The portrayal is so evokative, and knowing his end, it feels like Hodor knew all along what was going to happen to him, as though, perhaps, the seizure that changed him was actually a vision of his own death. Truly haunting.

    I suspect it was more than a vision for him... I always felt his mind melded with that moment in the future and it sort of... Broke him... Especially since he wouldn't fully understand what was happening I think it overwhelmed his mind until it just fried and left him like a small child.

    this is probably the only non-book scene that really got me the way the book-based ones did (along with Sansa and Jon reuniting!) because its so GRRM to make this tragic, noble life for this boy. the fact that Bran skinchanged him in the past and robbed him of his normal life, so he could steward Bran into the future and die protecting him like this is just so tragic

    They went back to that moment in time because the 3ER has been to everywhere in the past and the future, so he had already seen Hodor both have his seizure in the past as well as die holding the door in the future. He took Bran there to make sure it happened. It was less about Bran absorbing memories from the tree because he can do that at any heart tree, and more with making sure Bran lived long enough to be able to do that at all

  • @amysinyard2239

    The episode “The Door” always makes me sob. It’s so tragic no matter how you look at it. The acting is top notch and in the scene with the white walker vision you can see Bran getting a growing sense of unease. Up to that point Bran thought he was safe from anyone seeing or hearing him in the visions. I don’t think he knew there were exceptions. His face as Hodor/Wylis was saying “Hold the door” was both horrified and heartbroken. I always loved Hodor and one of the things that made me cry the most was that they played the Stark theme in his final moments. Rip Hodor. Some heroes don’t wear capes, they hold the door. 😭💔

    @@theConquerersMama I know that. I have two volunteer gigs actually! I have formed surface level friendships (for lack of a better term) through them. Where I struggle is creating those deep friendships where we can truly trust and rely on each other. I have chosen to be closeted at one of the volunteering jobs because I volunteer through a church (and have come across a bunch of homophobes) so there's immediately like... a degree of separation between me and anyone I meet there I know you didn't ask for my life story but... Anyone who is lonely already knows they need to "put themselves out there". If it only was that simple 😮‍💨😮‍💨

  • @theConquerersMama

    @theConquerersMama

    2 ай бұрын

    @pinsandneedles3 oh dear. First I meant this as a general observation. I don't know you personally. Hearing a bit more brings out my Mother side. It makes me sad that your church is not welcoming. I grew up in a welcoming parish. Rare in the 70s/80s or even 90s. So that's not my experience. My heart bleeds for all the people who don't have this gift. There is no end to self righteous "Dickons" out there. So volunteering at a LGBTQ friendly cause might be a start but you know your life better than I do with my simple platitudes. True, deep friendships and bonds take time. That's harder as adults. As kids people are forced through proximity to spend more time together - whether through school, teams or work. As adults we don't do what I call boredom bond. The moments where deep friendships tend to manifest naturally. I do wish you luck. Finding friends is hard. Surface friends can become more given time. People don't need to be your everything/perfect partner. Sometimes it starts with just fanning over the same special interest/artist/ cause. Apologies if this came off condescending rather than older person looking back at life. 💜

    So. My theory; on some level/plane of existence, this has already happened. Hodor has been Hodor for as long as anyone can remember, so therefore he must already have been through this in the past to be the Hodor he is today. If holding the door had never happened, he wouldn’t be Hodor, he’d still be Wylis. In order to become Hodor, for Bran to escape with him, travel to the Three Eyed Raven, yada yada no spoilers, he has to die at this exact point. So Bran had to go back to the past, for this to happen.

  • @CsprsSassyHrly

    @CsprsSassyHrly

    This is my take on it as well. Time is a big figure 8 track where everything that’s happened has already happened. We’re seeing the “present” in these episodes but in order for us to get here, it already had to happen in the “past”, when all of this that we’re seeing now was the “future”.

    Dickon is an old nickname for Richard, famously used in reference to King Richard III. George R.R. Martin based Game of Thrones on the Wars of the Roses, so I'm guessing that's maybe where he took the name from. The shorter form, Dick, is probably better known, and nowadays we tend to say Rick, Ricky, Ritchie etc.

    The "butterfly effect" is a concept from chaos theory. Small changes can lead to large, unpredictable consequences. In the context of "Game of Thrones," the actions of individual characters often have far-reaching and unexpected effects on the story's plot and the fates of other characters. These ripple effects are a central theme in the narrative, as the decisions and actions of characters can have significant and sometimes unintended consequences for the world of Westeros and beyond.

    The children did create an instrument to undo the evil they created - the same obsidian (dragon glass) they created him with and they probably didn’t know that there was an impact from Valyrian steel but I suspect that the house swords made with the metal have some dragon glass worked into them. The mystery of how they were made was kept secret and when the smiths of old Valyria died off the way the swords and other weapons were made died with them.

    Hold the door wrecked us all when it first aired. To think that’s been building since the pilot and we had no idea

    There is a concept about creating something that you can’t control. Like the book Frankenstein - he creates it basically out of ego but he can’t stop it

    3:53 speaking of being friends, I literally ran into someone in South Africa 🇿🇦 who looked exactly like you, and I approached him with full confidence in being friends with him. Only to find that he doesn’t even know you☹️ the saddest day of my life. I just left him there, didn’t even say goodbye 😫

    The relationship between Jorah and Daenerys is even creepier in the books, she's 13 at the first book and 16 by the end of the last (the equivalent of S5). They even kiss!!
