Just what you wanted, another Magnavox ZV427MG9 from Montana. Wont take a tape, shuts down.

Ғылым және технология

A Magnavox ZV427MG9A sent in from Montana this time. The complaint is that it will not tale a tape and shuts down after 13 seconds. After a brief troubleshooting I found the dreaded 220uf 6.3v capacitor shorted in the capstan motor power supply circuit. It also damaged a driver transistor. After both parts are replaced it is like new once again.

    Man, you do a lot of these! Even though VHS is obsolete, it just amazes me that these machines could be produced and sold for a profit! Especially the early ones that are stuffed to the gills with parts!

    @@frankpitochelli6786 I recently got my JVC HR-D470U (sideways loader) going again. It had a bad cap in the servo circuit I put new belts and refreshed the grease. I've been watching tapes recorded on this machine over 30 years ago! Still tracks HiFi well. Picture is surprisingly good on a big screen. Some tapes look wavy. I think it's called flagging. I want a time base corrector bit they are priced through the roof now!

    This was a great business at one time, many of us made a decent living at it, however because we did it for a living, it wasn't fun at the time...if we do it as a side business or hobby etc..it's very rewarding. Tho, I always loved to trouble shoot and find the bad components, gave you a feeling of accomplishment.

    I just repaired a Magnavox that had a dirty mode switch. It's a ZV428MW8 which is almost the same as this. Repair worked out great, plays vhs and dubs to dvd, but the clock, counter display does not work at all, any ideas. Love your videos by the way.

    Possibly the VFD (vacuum fluorescent display) has been damaged and lost its vacuum. The heater voltage may be missing also, or the cathode -30ish volts is missing.

    Hi. I see you have a lot of vids on this device. How's the fan? Is it easy to swap out? Just ordered one of these players along with a Noctua fan and 2 pin adapter just in case.. I imagined the fan is loud as hell at 3000 RPM and being in a consumer AV device (which one might think are usually whisper quiet but nay...)

  • @norcal715

    @norcal715

    2 жыл бұрын

    It should be very quiet as it normally only runs at about 500rpm. It is easy to replace, just a few screws. The plug may be different depending on the fan you source. It runs on 11.4 volts with 60 ohms (2-120 ohm resistors in parellel) in series with the source.

    My Magnavox ZV427MG9 has a high pitch sound that appears when recording from vhs to dvd. Any idea?

  • @norcal715

    @norcal715

    Most likely some bad capacitors in the signal processing part of the unit. You can try some heat like from a hair dryer and some canned air turned upside down to act a freeze spray to heat and cool various parts of the unit and see if the high pitch gets better or worse.
