A quick question to all the male viewers here who were born and raised in the US … I fell for an American woman from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and suggested we start a relationship … She actually agreed but warned me right from the start that she had no intention whatsoever to learn at least the basics of MY native language which is Russian in order to be able to communicate with my extended family too … Do you think I should go on trying to convince her that this is rather unfair? … Or should I just drop it and give up on the whole idea of building a relationship with a person who is unwilling to compromise and converse with my family members speaking their first language like I do with hers? * Moscow, Russia

Hi @SteelFanther, although you posed your question to males, as a female I thought I should give a female perspective. If someone cares they will be willing to try and go the extra mile. I think it would be challenging to learn a new language but making the effort to try, especially as this means so much to you so that she can connect with your family would be important. She would definitely need your patience and active help. Try again to help her to understand how important this is to you, then decide what is best for you in the end. Did she explain why she was unwilling ? All the best 😊.

@@simonemichellelloyd5435 No, she didn't give any reasons for her refusal to learn a few dozen Russian words ... What's more she flat out refused to relocate to Russia in case things become serious between us ... And that means I'll have to settle down in the US and start with a clean slate in my life ... In short, it's too complicated and I highly doubt it will develop into something meaningful between us ...

But I respect the fact that she’s open and honest about what she’s willing to do and not to do. This was you know exactly what you’re getting into. She’s not deceiving you. I already know English well enough to get employed in the US if I have to relocate there, as well as communicate with her extended family in case they wish to find out more info from me ... She however does not possess that ability at all ... Nor is she willing to ... That's what makes the situation really complicated and I'm not the one who is responsible for that ...
