Hello, Bridget. Ms. Cole wrote about this in her book. She said it was difficult for her to play Veruca Salt in _Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory_ because in order to film the movie she had to travel from her home in England to Germany, by herself, at age 12. She was lonely being far from home, and she missed her mother and sister, who had to stay in England. At that time, no one had a computer, and no one had a cell phone, so she was only able to communicate with her mom and sister via handwritten letters. But, although she was very homesick, she made lifelong friendships with the other child actors.
