Yep, it was made for a newer casual audience that they wanted, and it worked. They got the sales amount they hoped for while older fans who kept the series alive are thrown to the side. Expect it to get worse like it did with Oblivion to Skyrim for DD3, more dumbing down and simplification. Another series lost that I'm not looking forward to anymore.

When I killed a Dragon in DD1, it felt like an accomplishment, when I kill a Dragon in DD2 its just another day at the park. DD2 wasn't made for the Hardcore players that kept this franchise alive for years but for the casual who scoffed at the difficulty of the first game.

@@marcpolain9663 yeah I'd say on both games you have to tailor the experience to your tastes, cuz both have some really broken stuff, like mage/, sorcerer with holy focused bolt melting anything in BBI when you have a decent staff, blast arrows, throwblast etc you can trivialise both. That said I hope they add a proper hard mode and that they work on an expansion pack like dark Arisen

I'm kinda relieved I couldn't afford DD2. I only started playing DD last year and was so excited my new favorite game was getting a sequel so soon(soon for me). As a rule I never preorder or buy on day one, but I was going to make an exception for DD2. Finances didn't allow me to do so, thankfully(yay for being broke). So disappointing how it turned out. Maybe in a few years after some updates and I can pick it up for 5 bucks like I did the first one it will be better. BTW, your videos really added so much to my enjoyment of the game. I think I've watched almost all of them by now. I play with kb+m and really struggled with the controls at first and almost just quit completely, but I kept seeing your vids and it looked so fun. Finally got my gaming mouse setup where I could play decently and have had a blast since. Also, MK is my fav vocation but I had hell getting perfect block down. Kept rewatching your MK and perfect block vids until it finally all came together. So, thanks. Really appreciate how in depth you get.

I got back to DDDA over a month ago. It is good to be back, and It is good to know your videos are always there for reliable, exhaustive test proven info. DD1 is just unmatched when It comes to gameplay. I've been mostly trying to pull off crazy stunts like getting the Golem to fall off of the cliff and into the water. I managed to do It a couple of days ago, but I was on It so I had to jump off of It as It was falling or it would've been the brine for me 😅 I also go to the vallistas often cause I love seeing those big cyclops fall, and snipe the smaller goblins from far away. I'm also filling out all the stars in my pawn's bestiary, quests and travels since I noticed I still had a couple of 3 stars I needed. Like how the Dripstone cave 3rd star can only be unlocked by going through the back entrance during the first saurian quest. The next thing I wanna do involves bullying Griffons, which I managed to get one that just did not want to fly away, it was VERY pissed off at me and gave me the chance to see its different behaviors under different circumstances. I've also never tried holding unto it as it flies with enough stamina curatives. I better equip the grace augment for that 🤔

As someone that played the dickens out of Dragon's Dogma before it even had DLC and lost the heart to pick it back up again after my 360 died, and my saves with it, your videos have consistently struck the right balance of familiarity to make me feel nostalgic for it but also inspiring enough to come back and try things differently. I still hold hope with a little time they'll fill out 2 with a DLC that gives it as much renewed life as Bitter Black did for 1, and maybe give some use to the emptiness you mention. But in the meantime I can't help but kinda be excited to see you play 1 again while I'm clearing it myself as well!

Nihil, I completely agree that DD:DA is objectively better across the board, with graphics being the sole exception. I don't know how Itsuno and his team whiffed so badly on the sequel. They literally had a successful blueprint in-hand and over a decade worth of player feedback to guide them on a sequel. I hate to say it, but Dogma 2 feels like it was exclusively built around what Itsuno initially wanted DD:DA to be, and gamers were expected to get onboard whether they liked it or not.

Thank you man for honest review. DD2 is such disappointment for any sane Dragon's Dogma fan. It's not remake, it's not reboot, it's more like an attempt to reinvent the wheel. If they'd took DDDA and ported it to new engine, polished the main story, added few nice game mechanics, slightly rebalanced the vocations, improved the pawn's chatter it would be a way better game than this. Luckily we still have DDDA and DDO revival project to play.

I only really got into playing DD:DA tihs year. Played about 10 hours 4 years ago and didn't get it. This year it really sucked me in. I'm more a casual player (2nd run on normal) with 436 hours and lvl 155-ish. It's replaced Warframe as my go-to game after 2,800 hours. From what I've seen of DD2 in reviews, discussions etc it looks like a reboot of the original DD with nicer graphics and animations (due to a modern engine) made by a team consisting of hardly anybody who made the original or can remember playing it extensively. It's like Porsche making a small sports car after 10 years of SUVs only. The engineers who had the knowledge and experience have moved on years ago. The manufacturer doesn't know what made the previous cars great so creates a vague approximation in the hope that it will be "good" enough for the market. I'm definitely in no hurry to play it. I'd rather wait for an expanded, reworked DD2 Dark Arisen in a few (4,5?) years time. And if that doesn't happen, well I'll wait for it to be in a bargain bin sale I guess. Maybe I'll get around to reducing my Pile of Shame instead 😉

I'm still not sure if I'm going to get DD2. Maybe one day? Everything I've seen makes me feel like I'd only be playing it for the graphics (I like the way it looks) and the fact that I love DD1. But with all the videos I've watched on KZread, I can't help but feel that I'd rather play the first again. My biggest critique as a watcher only, lol, is that it does seem a little too easy? There have been many times in DD1 where I've actually run from enemies out of fear lol. But I don't get that sense from DD2. A lot of the bigger monsters seem slower and not as menacing. The thing with DD1 too is that I've barely scratched the surface even though I've been playing it for so long. I've barely explored BBI because of my commitment issues (I always wanna restart lol) and I'm so indecisive about my Pawn / Vocations, where I spend my time, etc. I also love the story and side quests in DD1. I still remember all of them by heart.

Do you hope to bring Capcom's attention to the problems DD2 introduced? Or is it more like venting ? In any case i hope capcom can take something positive out of it, and improve dd2 however they can. I do agree with some stuff you mentioned. Comparing to food, DD had a unique flavor while DD2, while still enjoyable, feels a bit watered down. I can understand the pain of having franchises not following up on its predecessors, but i believe your criticism can help them see that. I'd just say becareful with not sounding too toxic or acidic in the way you present it, otherwise people might immediately turn their defenses up. Keep it up!

I don’t want to give up on DD2 cause as much as the story and quests were a let down, they weren’t amazing in DD1 either. DD1 was just decently coherent and had an actual conclusion to the plot threads they introduced. DD2 just introduces plot points and never addresses most of them; they’re only used as an excuse to get you to point A to point B. Despite that, I feel at least DD2’s gameplay can be addressed with a DLC. If they add a proper endgame like BBI and hard mode to DD2 with new vocations and old Vocations that reuse existing weapons in new ways I think my main issues with the game would be resolved. As of now the gameplay is just too 1-dimensional and there is no proper endgame to push the combat to its limits.

retry in normal mode. comparing hardmode to non hardmode with the conclusion that hardmode is harder. why didnt you compare fuck ups in dd1 normal mode to fuck ups in dd2? also i remember from your last videos how you praised the aggresivness of dd1 monsters and then you show clips of an ogre going into a battle of who can stare better while strafing around for 15! seconds straight and the cyclops didnt do that much either. i am not arguing if dd2 is better than dd1 or vice versa, but from an outside pov, i get the strong impression that you have a hard bias and are wearing rose tinted glasses. no offense.

As far as i remember Hard mode affects damage they do to you, their poise and everything stamina wise you do (only thing i really dislike as it eats tons of stamina to do anything) while giving you tons of money (so you can get gear/items and make the mode far easier then normal). It does not affect aggression of the opponents at all. also.... why did dd2 not have a hardmode? its not like they did much in DDDA with hardmode and it was badly thought out there too.

you are playing in hard mode in this video, hard mode was an update of the game, was very hard only for a new game, normal difficulty is similar to dd2

some of us talk about memorable npcs from dd1, we are playing this game for 12 years, they may not be and we have only elevate them, ist simple, ask someone who just play dd1 as a casual player, not a 12 years fan

you are missing the point here, he is not comparing hard mode on 1 to normal mode on 2, he is comparing the feeling you get playing 2 when you loved 1 so much and kept playing it over and over for years.

It was really clever how you ignored many positives about DD2 in your review. Why no mention of mages syncing with sorcerers? Why no mention of Griffins actually having nests in DD2? Saying they had 12 years is disingenuous to the process of making a video game and the business side of it. DD1 wasn’t successful enough to immediately warrant a sequel. I agree DD2 has its flaws but it’s crazy that you only saw the negatives. You always seem to be such a rational guy but your DD2 review was just you being emotional.

@@marcpolain9663 I didn't read it that way, it's a minor QoL, yes. The small QoL throughout the game don't diminish the glaring issues that he pointed out in his videos. I finished the game early so I don't know if they fixed the inventory problem with changing classes or sending gear in the stock. chest yet.

I mean tbf it's 3 quick skills and possibly Spellhold which you realistically aren't going to be syncing. But just because he didn't list these minor things doesn't mean DD2 is all bad. It is however not a great sequel to the first, nor a particularly high quality 70$ 2024 game. It's a good foundation given the combat at its base form is great but it seems to be more a death by a million cuts outside of that. Luckily it can yet be improved but there's no excuse for the launch state. Keep in mind you can easily point these things out if even say you like this game like I do. You don't have to be a blind purposefully oblivious fanatic over a game.

you see this in most games, someone who put a ton of effort into making videos for a game never like the next version of it to come out. he could have just said he didn't like DD2. Just like DD:DA they both have their problems neither is a complete game and after playing both I can say DD:DA only feels complete in BBI. DD2 hasn't even reached it's best form yet.
