"Just Mercy": Bryan Stevenson on instilling compassion in young adults
The U.S. incarcerates more of its citizens than any other nation in the world, according to the latest government data. In 2016, about 2 million people were in jails and prisons. That's compared to less than 200,000 in 1972. The Equal Justice Initiative is a non-profit organization that provides legal representation for inmates, and works to end mass incarceration. Founder and executive director Bryan Stevenson joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss why he decided to turn his 2014 bestseller, "Just Mercy," into a book for young adult readers.

Bryan Stevenson is my hero. I will try to emulate his example. The book changed my life. Taking my two white sons to the museum and memorial was life changing as well. I want to help him in his work. Anyone want to do a fundraiser for EJI with me?

@@exoficient I'm reading it now title: "Just Mercy"... It's pretty shocking how prison life is treating the ¼ of the population of Americans. Bryan is quite honest in recounting his experiences with innocent people, and children locked away. He described conditions in jails, as he personally visits his clients. His unmarried status, (as well as his sobriety) is befitting the long hours and many sacrifices he has to make to try to help the helpless. This relatively short book may open one's eyes and heart and ears and mouth to things a free person might never dare to consider, but should be daring enough to at least know what needs to be known about human injustices. I think Bryan has a deep heart that is yet simply asking us to realize how we need to be more merciful and truthfully more just.

His words are so meaningful it makes me want to cry.
Rich and guilty - poor and innocent. Power words by Mr. Stevenson Thank You for the knowledge.
I really really want to work for this firm Bryan Stevenson has become an idol, the movie Litearlly struck me and it was confirmation that, that's exactly what I was meant to do. I loved it, I know it's kind of a stretch because I'm only a junior in high school currently. But I feel that passion in me burning. And finding a firm and a person who fights for the causes I feel so strongly about it's just amazing.

If you mean on the political stage.....😕. Does he deserve to be? Of course. Worried that he'd get hemmed up by politics. He should definitely be a household name globally.
Bryan, you are wonderful.
After Just Mercy Surely Gets Bryan Stevenson Oscars What will be the Next Movie arising from his EJI Organization?
More education is needed and health care too.....
The introduction, why did they say citizens not black people straight forward
Yes he is right
It is true just punishing kids can't create a good person. We can give another opportunity and guide them there is a second chance they can grow into a good person. Also, we have to know that this country's policing is wrong and can't bring justice to a real criminal unless this systemic racism exists and arrests a wrong person. Bryan Stevenson is a pioneer of real justice and mercy that brings more peaceful and passionate community and society we want to have.
Please change the title of the video. It is misleading to post a title that does not relate to the video clip presented.

OpenYourMind land of the free if you’re rich is more like it but even then that’s questionable. It’s sad and absolutely disgusting we can do this to our fellow human beings
