Just in! A Quirky Dutch Postal Railbus - Märklin 3389 (NS mP3000)

Ойын-сауық

This video is a re-run and was published during the "quiet season" earlier this year...
I recently received a Märklin 3389 class mP3000 of the NS (postal railcar) which I acquired from a shop. Was this a good buy? We'll find out together as I look at it for the first time. On the way, you will find a model overview, high level information about the prototype for context, model unboxing, matching stock suggestion and a run around the layout with a few coaches/wagons.
I hope you enjoy the video. If you do, please help the channel in reaching a wider audience by subscribing or hitting the like button.
Thanks for watching.

Hello, these are very nice railcars, I like them much better than the German models due to the shape of the front, exceptions are the Vt11.5, many greetings Kai👌👌👍👍😊😊

A very interesting video. Please follow up with service. I have two railed one of these as an operational 'chess piece'. Not expecting to pull anything at all, let alone anything significant, the modified model has no traction tyres. In two rail this makes all the difference as we have 4 wheels down each side. The reversing arrangements were left as is. Original intention was to retrofit a 5 slot rotor (our motors are 2 pole), but the model runs well enough as is. A five slot rotor would probably smooth out the transition between starting and 'climbing out' performance. With all wheels picking up this model is wonderful on slow speed performance over points. At least on analogue, this is a superb model. By 'superb' I mean it would laugh any other manufacturer off the table; cruelty to dumb animals. As a timetable filler it is a typical Marklin model of its time: reliable with only routine maintenance required. Unless you know what you are doing, I would not recommend 2 railing. There are difficulties within the design, a design not made for the attentions of the 'screw driver mad'. Steam is a headache. Keep in mind any modifications interfere with factory specifications. Even with new models, always duration run for heat checking. To run Marklin I must two rail, as Marklin centre stud rusts in my environment. Criticisms: All but no spares available. What if you blow a light board! : Disappointing to see self-tappers for body/chassis screws. Why not do it properly and install metal screw threads? : Packaging awful! Unhappy with the modern trend of motors whose brushes cannot be replaced (AAAHHH!!!!!). Need spares. Hope this is of interest to someone; and hope it reads OK.

I've got the 3388. That's the newer livery. The plastic of the packaging always gets yellowed over time. I'm thinking about putting one of them under a UV light to see if that reduces it a little. It works with old computer cases (retro brightening) so maybe it does with this plastic too. Fun fact about the cars behind this unit, as far as I know these where only made by Roco.

Great unit on the layout and an superb Job from Märklin this one; visually quite well executed. Being born in the Netherlands (German heritage) and residing close to a railway (moving out much later), we remember these well. Small addition if we may. The nose of this mp was based on Plan TT (1961, experimental future train - ‘Trein Toekomst’ in Dutch) which would become Mat 64 (Plan T and V). The nose of the TT (thus T, V and mp) was indeed a further development of that of Mat 54. The latter received the official nickname ‘dog head’ whilst Mat 64 unofficially ‘monkey head’ due to their odd but distinctive design. Auf Deutsch; wieder ein klasse Video 👍

@@janbrocker1855 kzread.info/dash/bejne/jId6w7KTgKvTgM4.html With this model, you need to make sure the connection to ground is very good, that means checking the brown connection from the reverser to the chassis, and check the front bogie, On this model, I think I had to give the motor a good service and clean the wheels on the front bogie properly. You might also need to take the front bogie off and clean the side that is in contact with the chassis too.
