the fact they wrote this is insane
it’s speculated that olivia and joshua actually dated and that her song “drivers license” is about him. there’s a lot of evidence but nothing was confirmed (probably due to their age difference)

Just in case someone didn’t know, their characters basically play love roles in the musical so the lyrics are referring to that “is it just the part we’re playing cause it don’t feel like we’re faking”.

What they mean by the lyrics you mentioned is that when they are performing opposite each other, their hearts are not broken casue they are playing characters that are in love with each other. "when we're underneath the lights my heart's no longer broken, for a moment, just for a moment. When we're singing side by side there's so much left unspoken, for a moment, just for a moment.
