So many features missing at launch: *Sweat Mode - no (this is a major omission, being a great feature for using JD as an exercise app) *World Dancefloor - no (online is currently only through a friend invite system) *Dancer Cards - no (additional players have to play as guest) *Kids Mode - no (this was a decent mode for those with young children, not a big deal I guess as you could always just make a playlist for your kids right? right?) Oh wait... *Custom Playlists - no (there are only premade playlists. There is a Kids Faves playlist to alleviate the missing kids mode, but all 5 songs in this playlist are behind the Just Dance + subscription. The other playlist aimed at kids, a Disney themed one has 5/6 songs behind +. There is also an Enter the Danceverses "story" mode, which I thought would be similar to 2020s All Star mode, but there's no dedicated menu for this, so it's essentially just another playlist) *Just Dance Unlimited with access to 700+ songs - no (this has been replaced with Just Dance + which is the same price, but with currently only around 150 songs. Both subscriptions are completely separate, so you can't for example get Unlimited and use it in 2023 or use + in previous versions) *Gift Machine - no (no more earning mojo to use in the gift machine, as such unless I missed it there are no longer daily challenges. Badges, backgrounds and titles are now earned through an achievement list by doing specific tasks such as playing certain playlists or through levelling up) *PS4/Xbox One Editions - no (only available on Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series Consoles. The PS5 and Xbox don't support PS Camera, Move or Kinect, so you need to use a smartphone and the JD app to play on those consoles) The only draw in my opinion playing this over 2022 is for the new songs and to earn badges and level up. But here's the kicker - the scoring system seems worse making it harder to do so, which wouldn't be so much of an issue, but part of the reason could be due to the game lagging (on Switch), even with the new songs downloaded. You get these little stutters which compounds the scoring issue. This isn't just within the songs, even the menus lag, making the entire game feel off. If you are able to work around all these issues, there's also the issue of the game crashing (on Switch). So for example you could be almost finished the 2023 Workout Edition playlist getting Megastars and Superstars, so well on track to earning the badge for getting a 5 star rating on this playlist... and the game crashes. Massive L for Ubisoft with this launch.

Wish I'd seen this before I purchased - all of these issues are still outstanding as of my purchase Christmas 2022. Paying to carry on Just Dance 2022 Unlimited as these features are what made it fun for everyone in our household.

I will miss cartridges. Those hand-me-downs got me into the game so having a digital code only is kinda saddening I hope the sweat mode could come back one day. I'm just using it for how much time I already used for just playing it

Whaaaaat?! No Sweat mode? Really. I am very disappointed if I had known that I wouldn't have gotten the game. I love Just Dance and I always just played in Sweat mode. I play it because I want to exercise and I need to know how long I play. 🙄

I have to say I was upset that world was gone on this edition, but the dances are blowing my mind. Very great dance moves and songs. I wish they allowed me to create my very own playlist. They do create one for you based on your previous days dance experience but it does not allow but for only 8 songs… more songs please

Thanks for the review, out of the blue my daughter asked for a Switch so it gave us an excuse to get one for X-Mas. Picking this one up for my wife who loves to dance. Wish there was really nice Zumba games though. We actually liked the XBox Connect dance games. They rocked.

I like digital for fitness games. I keep switching carts for my Just Dance games and Splatoon 3... Really hope sweat mode comes back. I like to dance until I reach 200 calories with the other games. I still have my fitness watch, I just like having a goal.

I picked 2023 up for $30 after black Friday. As much as I miss all those features, this year's song choice and choreos have impressed me so much that I still like it

Hey, is there an "absolute n00b, I have no idea which buttons to press to do the thing," guide to just dance? Like, what button did I press to get the machine to assume there was someone else here on the other controller? Which button do I press to get back to the home screen, because all I'm getting is the four songs they think I want. Because the convenience of "I should move more before I go to bed, lemme click on my switch a minute," and not have to go through the who ring fit strap things on my person rigamarole, is good, but I am naturally inclined to get so frustrated by tech that thinks it is intuitive, but it is intuitive to someone who has been playing along for a while, and I've just jumped in, in the middle of the movie and have no idea what's going on. (Apologies for all the mixed metaphors.) ANYWAY, looking forward to your ring fit custom new years thing enough that I am committing a chunk of time to figure out custom mode (read swearing at custom mode while drinking coffee and eating the rest of my holiday snacks) and am glad to have Just Dance as backup, but I would love an easy to read guide of which buttons to press and in which order. (I also love run-on sentences.) (It is probably in the box, I should go find that.) - Cranky GenXer who has heard tell that moving regularly is good for you.

Sweat mode isn't available right now but know it will get updated overtime so we might see it return in the future

I agree. When Rock Band 4 came out in 2015, it stripped down a lot of rock band 3s features including online play. Online play came to rock band 4 a year later

Hiiiii, this is Mirror U speaking lol 🤣🤣🤣 i'm currently using my work account But anyway, i am totally agreed that i was quite bumped by the fact that they removed Sweat Mode, i usually set myself to perform a set of songs that fit about 300kcals per/ session, and sometimes having the calories count in game does push me dance a little bit more to reach a new milestone Having this feature removed is a huge let down for me, but i hope they'll bring it back in the future lol

On different consoles not switch just dance 2023 has a feature utilizing the camera basically you can dance against your friend live streaming seeing each other screen living room while your competing

This may seem like a stupid question but I’ve been playing with the WII JDs until this month, when I bought the switch. How’s the best way to hold the joycons? The side buttons are in my way. It took me forever to get best scores with the WII due to learning how to hold the Wii controllers and now I have new ones 😂

Holding them so your thumb goes over the XYAB buttons on the right joycon is best. So if you're holding your hand flat, the joycon is mostly on your fingers ith you palm wrapped around.

the only thing that i didnt like about sweat mode is thinking i beat my previous score since sweat mode doesnt count the score only kcal

Unlimited is only available on Just Dance 22 and previous iterations. If you have Just Dance 23, you can only use Plus.

I have a performance question. Is it also the case with you that the songs (only the video) looks a bit choppy? Or random lags like e.g. at Cursified? I would be interested. According to FPS, the songs don't run at 60fps either, but at 50 and below

Ring Fit needs a sequel but I gave this a chance. It's funny how this game made me realize dancing lifts your mood. Just give it a chance I guess. Fitbit calorie burn was high for the workout mode.

If you bought the boxed copy, the code inside will give you access to the songs from the 2023 edition. Same as if yo buy the 2024 box, you get access to the 2024 songs. Check the Just Dance wiki for a song list.

My son has the news x-box, the Xbox-S I believe. Its digital download only, no disc. Will the Xbox Kinect be compatible with his game console?

I really liked the idea when there was a kinect, I don't really want to hold my phone while dancing or something else...I just want to dance... But I understand there willl be no more kinect? are there other sensors available to play the game that detects my movement?

I just think that dancing with a sensor ir more interesting, it actually scans your movement.... a phone can just be thrown arround, it can not tell if you are actually dancing...

Yeah, I get the frustration. Its a weird design choice, but the Kinect has become obsolete.

I'm a total dancing noob and I've never played any other Just Dance games. I bought the game because as a nerd, I liked the idea of the campaign mode and the fantasy-like avatars, and I had a great time with Ring Fit Adventure. But I must say Just Dance 2023 is very much not a beginner-friendly game. There's no real tutorial, and the first newbie playlist I found was really difficult for me and it was very disheartening. This review serves as a much better tutorial to the game than what the game itself offers. I'll try the different accessibility search functions next time and hopefully I can find something that suits me better.

Build yourself up by dancing off the really easy songs first. The hard song you just have to dance until you get it right. That’s the object of the game anyways

I am a fan of the just dance games but the 2023 i dont like it was hard to figure out how it worked in the begin. then i had a big problem when i try to connect other players with the joycons because it didnt work for like 10 -15 min then i could get everyone finaly connected. I personaly liked the just dance 2022 more But that my review on it 🙃

you can hold the joycon with or without wrist straps. but you can buy the joycon gloves or wrist bands if you don't wanna hold it with your while you are dancing. I will say that, in terms of scoring, it's better to hold the joycon with your hand than the gloves and wrist bands but it's up to you depending on your preferences :D

@@MasterTrainerPeter session time is what I’d miss. The calorie counter never is anywhere close to what my watch tracks for me, but I like the sweat mode option of keep me thinking in that direction. Also - I’m 50 and lost 50 pounds dancing with all the JDs through the past year. 🎉 so yes, it WORKS. Get moving!

With the Switch, you'll have everything you need in the box. Get the straps on, buy a Just Dance game (your choiec as to which one) and you're set!

JD23 for me has been a great disappointment. I used to play on Stadia, but they are going to close. I bought a Nintendo Switch and a television just to play the new just dance, but what a disappointment to see that I cannot make my own playlists, nor mark my favorite songs, there is no random mode in the playlists, no sweat mode, which in my case was not to count calories, but to see the time left for each song and to dance without interruptions. From JD+, because it brings very few songs, I don't think it's worth it, I won't pay for it, but I will renew Unlimited for 2022 to continue having 700 songs and be able to make my playlists. I downloaded the game but couldn't play some song because it was downloaded badly, I deleted it and reinstalled it, but I dare not download it again because I'm afraid it won't work again. I don't like the interface, you dance to a song and then you need two steps to return to the song menu, which takes away from the immersion. Only as a positive I will say that I like the songs and the maps, nothing more. I've been playing JD since the beginning, over 10 years ago, but with the new just dance I might stop buying it if I can't make my own playlists. Apparently just dance plus has a considerable less amount that just dance unlimited and just dance now which I’m quite baffled about, I guess it is a new service and not just a name change like I assumed but I hope it catches up with the other two soon enough to make it worthwhile. I still haven’t used my free trial of Unlimited for JD2022 so I guess I can have a bit of fun with that for a bit.

It's Unacceptable... I bought just dance 2023 and I have ps5 camera HD but the camera doesn't work with just dance 2023 on playstation 5. Please Ubisoft do an update and make the camera compatible!

Buying a new gen console for 1 game alone is always going to be a dumb idea

My personal experience is not good since it doesn't have Motion camera, there is no fun moving only Joycons. I can cheat easily with moving only Joycon up or down or left or right. Just Dance for switch never was a good idea by Ubisoft.

I mean keeping the scoring consistent on both cameras and controllers was too hard and since just dance has always been more a Ubisoft game they decided to go the controller thought of course . If you cheat your taking the fun out of the game for yourself , the point of the game isn’t all about the score but seeing how well you are about to learn and replicate different dances and moves . That’s the biggest pleasure of the game is the beating that learning curve !

Yeah this really sucks. We loved playing this game with the Kinect. I don’t want my kids holding a phone. Might have to try the switch.

I hate how scoring detection has been swept under the rug. Some songs are almost impossible to get good scoring. Such a big downgrade from previous games. I dont rember having such dificulties when playing previous old gen jd games. I hate how after finishing the song you have to "end the activity" in order to choose smth you want next. Giving me 5 options without any slider is so weird. As much as like the creativeness in maps and songs choices i hate how much of downgrade in other fields. No sweat mode, jd+ having not as many songs as unlimited. No custom playlist creator, no sweat mode, no world dancefloor. They added bunch of pointless stuff such as flashy dance cards and removed the features that were in the game for a reason. Big disapoointment as of now. Hope they gonna fix it with uodates

Sounds like you hate a lot of this game, like most other people I'm hearing from. Hopefully they add things like custom playlists and sweat mode back in

@@MasterTrainerPeter i've been with this franchise since just dance 2 and it's the first time i am this disappointed. I know switch controllers were always a bit harsh with scoring but in this edition it's clearly smth wrong with programming the moves detection within the choreo. It's especially visible in Ava Max Million Dollar Baby during chorus, it's better sometimes to just don't move the controller cause it will give u Perfects. And when u move like a dancer it's an X or OK.

They didn't release a disk version because they don't want you to own it, they just want more money. Even more, you have to pay subscription to play a game that you already paid for. This is next level greed.

With no respect at all, how dense are you to not get how the game works from this? You go into the menu, you select your song, you dance to it. All of that is shown. I explain how the movement mechanics work as well. I cover the game and its settings. Thats what a review needs i.e its not a terrible review by definition since I assess and show what the game consists of. If you didn't like what I had to say, well thats another thing entirely. Learn how reviews work.

You have no objective constructive criticism to give except 'bad review' and 'didnt show the gameplay' when the gameplay loop is literally shown in the review. Get back under your bridge.
