Just Brutal Knockouts... Here's Why Fedor Emelianenko Was The Greatest Fighter Ever

Спорт

He mauled world’s deadliest strikers in cold blood, revolutionized ground-and-pound and wiped out a squad of UFC champions. During an unprecedented decade of dominance, Fedor Emelianenko conquered Pride FC royal division and went down in history as the greatest heavyweight in MMA. Let’s recall the brightest moments from the Last Emperor’s red-hot sledgehammer spectacle.

After having been a UFC fan for several years, my intro to him (and the Pride: Grand Prix tournaments) was from the first time Rogan talked about him on his podcast. I remember two things. First, he talked about the fight with Nogueira, and the insane ground & pound, especially when Nog was in the corner, eating the viscous blasts Fedor was raining down on him. The second story was about the Randleman fight, which had “the slam”, and the kimora that Fedor secured right after being dumped on his head. I had been listening to the episode, and had to wait until I got home to find those fights on KZread. After hearing Rogan describe it, and as crazy as he made it sound, I was wondering if it was actually as bonkers as he had said it was. Well, he was right. When I was watching both of those fights, it was the first time I experienced a bit of anxiety from how brutal some of the action was. Plus, Pride rules allowed the stomps & kicks to the head, and the crowds in Japan are eerily quiet during the fights, so that definitely ratcheted up the brutality of the sport, compared to what I was used to seeing. Oddly enough, the kimora Fedor submitted was the toughest part to witness. He really wrenched Randleman’s arm & elbow, and in the quiet arena, the scream he yelled out in pain echoed throughout the building. Instantly, I was a fan, and watched a few more of his fights, a highlight reel, and a great mini-documentary on his mysterious training regiment, and the mystique of his rustic, hardened by the elements & Cold War era type lifestyle. A must watch, for any fan of Fedor, or mma in general. Btw, I somehow hadn’t seen the fight, or any of the footage from his fight with Herring, until just now. Holy shit, was that an epic, one-sided ass-kicking. That was a career altering fight for Herring, who quickly learned how badly outclassed he was, and wore it smeared all over his face. So scary!

I love how Randleman picked him up, and put him over his shoulder, holding his arm up, showing how much respect he had for Fedor. That big smile that came over Fedor's face was great! I can't remember what Fedor said verbatim about Fujita's punch, but it was something to the effect that he had never been hit that hard in his life, and said he hit like a mule! There will never be another Fedor. Poise, confidence, humble, kind, respectful, and an insanely talented fighter. I'm happy to have watched him through all the years, from the beginning. Этот человек стал популизатором ММА в России и кумиром многих мальчишек 90 - 2000х годов. Он и в жизни такой, как на ринге. Спокойный, правильный, рассудительный. С его примера выросло целое поколение чемпионов.

Crazy part about Fedor that not many western fans realize is that during his reign in Pride he was also fully active Combat Sambo World Champion. If you add up all his fights in both disciplines you get something like a 100 fights. GOAT.

How fast! I get a Butterbean feel from him,. like he puts in 110% and has spent a lifetime to know how to put all that force into one spot! Not only that, but he knows all the rest of it. He trained more in a month than most humans train in a life time!

All the glory to Fedor. He absolutely destroyed so many of his opponents, but was always classy.

Here's the thing. Feodor did nothing unusual for the Slavic culture. Do you see the difference between the western and the Slavic cultures?

Part of what made Fedor so potent is his relentlessness and incredible natural strength. It’s just a constant onslaught without a sec break.
