As a Canuk I can tell you, Moose are extremely intelligent quadrupedal ungulates. They have an amazing memory and can remember individual persons. Many have compared the intelligence of a moose to that of a wild horse, yet unlike horses moose tend to be solitary for the most part. Most folks are afraid of a moose because of their imposing stature and of course they have seen videos of moose charging, for example: by a cow with calves or a male during the rut. During the Canadian winters Moose tend to be less grumpy and more appreciative of carrots or an apple accidentally dropped from your car while you are parked admiring them.

I went to school with a chick from Canada and her step-Mom would feed the moose all the time. And when they would get in the street and block traffic, people would be afraid to drive past them because they could and sometimes would get violent. So sometimes her step-Mom would have to leave work, walk down and yell at them to get out the street. She was literally the only person in town that those moose didn’t chase and scare. 😂🤣😂💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

Congratulations! You now are the proud, but terrified owner of a huge moose. You are now responsible for mandatory feedings and you must obey feeding him regardless of the time of day and it will not matter if you were busy or on the toilet. The moose will never accept not being given those apples, so you must keep an endless supply of them year round. Yes, you will be stalked. And yes, you most likely will still be attacked. But don't worry, he will tell all his other friends about your generosity and you will now be responsible for feeding them too. 😂👍🏼

If you think that this law is worth changing, write to you're a local legislator with your thoughts about it. That being said, the statute clearly states that the prohibition against feeding wildlife is in effect and current as of January, 2024. Far from being some "meaningless" (as you put it) piece of arcane law, buried deep within an ancient and dusty tome of forgotten historical law, this statute is up to date and enforced, and for good reason. More people are attacked and injured or killed by aggressive moose habituated to humans than cougars and bears. Let that sink in.

I saw another video where a guy raised a stick over his head grunting at a moose while stepping toward it to scare it away while the girl he was with cowarded and tried running away. I'm not saying anyone can just do that but he was just applying a little pressure to tell the moose that wasn't OK.

Like cattle, moose only have a dental pad and no upper teeth so they tend to “gulp” their food whole without chewing it. Apples aren’t typically part of their daily diet so it’s quite easy for an uncut apple to lodge in their throats when eaten whole. Choking to death on a treat fed by a human would be a horrible death for such a magnificent animal.

@@TheVyancy That's hilarious, because my mom was also a school teacher, and I think I first read it in the school library on a day she was working late lol I remembered about the mouse one, but I couldn't remember if that was the first one and maybe the moose one was just an Alaskan spin-off (since I read it as a kid in Alaska). I should really buy those books again.

That’s funny I’m such a city girl and when I moved to rural area 20 years ago obviously there’s chicken farms and dairy and all kinds of stuff up here. So there was all these calves and I made my husband who is from the country and was totally embarrassed to go ask the people if I could pet the calves I’m sure they thought I was weird. They said yes, so I got all excited walked up to the pen and as soon as they saw me the human, they all went running as far away from the fence as they could get, so I couldn’t pet them. I’m sure my husband was dying.

Moose are smarter than you think. They can associate the location of the fridge as a food source very quickly, even bring friends. If it really wanted to out of hunger, it can come back and break through since it sees you as non threatening (dominatable) to get to the source of yumyums. Some of them might get aggressive if it thinks you're hiding the gems.
