Watching from Arkansas, USA. I hear different things from different gardeners about these ingredients, especially dish detergent. Some claim the soap damages the leaves. Some suggest Castile soap. The vegetable oil surprises me. Wouldn’t that clog the pores of the plant? I don’t know if baking soda will burn the leaves, as one person commented. Using it just on the soil hasn’t hurt the plants. But it won’t cost me anything to try this recipe, using Castile soap rather than dish detergent. Thank you.

A spray of baking soda will burn the leaves of tomato plants even when applied too thinly.

BACKING SODA IS USED IN DALUTED FORM, BY MIXING IN WATER. VEGETABLE OIL COVERS ITS HARDNESS. FIRST TRY IT ON A PART OF SINGLE PLANT FOR EXPERIMENT.
