    I bought one of these in 2019 for our caravan in a 12V system. As you have found out it is not easy to wire up the shunt. After I installed it, and was running a 2000w inverter to run a 800W toaster, I found the unit was getting very hot. Not wanting this to catch fire, I bought a Victron BMV712. Very expensive, but did not get hot in the same service. A few years later I need a current meter for our house battery/inverter 48V setup, so I thought I'd try this one again. First, I removed the shunt from the circuit board, and mounted it separately. Ran a twisted pair of wires to the unit. It worked perfectly, no heating up, and measures the voltage & current of the 5000w inverter. It can't monitor the battery SOC because it is only in the inverter cable, and there is another charger in the system. For the money it is a good device, but can only be seen on site, in the garage, and can't be connected to a PC or phone.

    Awesome video, just received mine and wondering if you could help me with powering the meter. And also wiring an 80amp 12 volt relay. The relay has 4 terminals and I noticed you just connected 2 terminals with a diode. In my case I would be using this unit to be powered with 12 volt battery. So would I connect the unit to negative and positive off battery? And on my relay how would I wire it up? If you can show me a wiring diagram I would be forever grateful. Have a nice day.

Happy new year! and thank you for your vids :)

    I think I just answered my own question by watching a video on an older unit, I assume this one is the same. The guy disconnected the remote screen by changing channel, when he reconnected, the watt hour jumped up significantly. So it seems everything is done in the base unit and the display is just a display and UI.

    Do you know whether it is (slightly) overload resistant? I plan to buy a 1050 for my boat because the resolution is better then from the bigger devices and most time my devices pull around 1 Amp or much less. But for a short time the starter current for my 10HP outboard engine will run through the shunt (should be around around 80 Amps for max. 5 seconds). Do you have an idea if it will blow up immediately? I do not expect the device to count the energy during this moment, only the shunt to withstand the current. Did you touch the shunt during max load? Does it become very hot?

So do you have to power the unit off less than 30v but the main leads across the shunt can be up to 100v ? Would love to see a setup and test to the rated 100v.

    Thanks. Very helpful. I am a little confused about the connections as I have limited knowledge here. I am trying to connect to a 12v DC battery for an RV to monitor voltage, current and battery remaining capacity. On the battery positive terminal, there is the positive cable and I believe the charging cable connected together. On the negative battery terminal, there is just the negative ground connected. When you say connect to the load, does that simply mean connect each device terminal to its corresponding lug on the battery, in this case, and also connect a power wire from the small connector to the positive on battery terminal? If not correct, please advise. Also, as the shunt is located in the battery box, what advise can you share about protecting the device from rain, etc. Thanks if you can help.

    Hi, No it can't . This is made for max. 300A and with 1% accuracy you will get minimum of 3A. If you want 0.01 A then get a module that can measure maximum of 1A or even 500mA (0.5A) .

    this is for current of 300Ah or 300,000mAh if you want to use, it this can't control charge, just how much energy is used. Yes you can if you wanted. but there are better solutions a very small and clean solutions for your applications.

When i set the size of the battery and leave it for a few days, it will go up to 100% and will never ggo back down again. But i know from experience that my usage is about 1kwh each day. Even if i set the battery to 0% charge on the meter. After 4 days it will show 100%. Which means its something like 25% off each day with measuring...

    it was correct. if my wires are not thick enough, some voltage drops on the wires (they act like resistor) and the display shows that.

    it drops only if you drain current. what is the capacity of battery and at what rate you are draining the current? if you set the battery to 10A or 10000mA, and you darin 50mA/h it would drain very slowly and you wont' see it. So set your battery for 500mA/h and drain at 100mA or 200mA and you should see it drains quickly. I have tested it and it works. Unless your is defective.

  • @robojax

    @robojax

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes of course. this is made for 300A. it's accuracy is 0.5%. so in 300A it has 1.5A error. meaning you will read 1.5A and then 3A, 3.5A and so on any value of 1.5A between two value has no meaning.

    I have this device in my Campervan. It works okey. But not very accurate. Loads unter 1 amp will not show up. If my battery is full (12.8V 200ah Lifepo4) and i Set the % to Zero, after 4 days it will show 100%. This means it is measuring the loads around 25% to low every day. Or it measures 100% of the charge but only 75% of the discharge. So after 4 days battery shows 100%. This device is good for rough estimate data. But definetly far from being accurate.
