I've been doing body work and paint for a long time in body shops and restoration shops. First steps to get perfect cut and polish job is sandpaper. You want to start out with 1500-2000 wet sanding. Then they make a 3000,5000, and even 8000 grit sandpaper is kinda like a sponge type 3000 is all you really need to go to but the 5000 and 8000 just helps make the job faster and easier with less buffing. Do all sanding wet it makes a difference. 3m makes the 3 stage cut and polish I see you have the 3rd stage polish already. It's expensive to get everything at first but it makes a hell of a difference. 1st step is white compound with white pad, 2nd step is black compound with black pad, 3rd is the blue polish with blue pad. And use them all on a buffer/polisher. In between the compound steps wipe the part down with alcohol and water 50/50 mix that will take all previous compound off to get it ready for next compound or polish it makes a big difference in making a mirror finish. On the 3rd stage of the blue polish when you using the buffer you will notice the polish starting to look like water that's when you know it's working then just clean off with microfiber towel no need to clean it off with the alcohol water mix. Hope this makes sense lol best of luck

Very well explained . A lot of people don’t understand the results of a show room finish, and the process the entire panel takes to get there . This is great info 👍🏻

I painted a hood w clear and 3-4 hours later it got rained on and it ruined it i sanded it out with steps, starting with 1000,1200 and so on up to 2000, then buffed it out. Each step you take you need to make sure you sand out the previous scratches or you will have a couple 1000 or 1200 and so on scratches left over that will create that haze. I learn the most by trial and error but thank god for KZread giving me a head start.🤙 Nice work

It’s easy man the finer you go the shiner it gets. 1200,1500,3000 then wool pad , 3m compound, then to get rid of the compound light swirls, polish compound right after then wax.

Adding reducer will help flatten paint/clear coat. Easier to get runs but will lay down flat

Hey Nate looks nice ! If you want to improve a carbon fiber hood restoration in the future with better results I would have clear coated it twice. Cake the first clearcoat session on . Let that dry then wet sand with a block to flatten it out with 400grit or 600 depending what clearcoat you’re working with. Then do your second coat of clearcoat as even as possible. And then cut and buff that after it dries . That would’ve gave you a better shine for sure and have the cracks filled in better . And the polish could be done heavy cause you know you have a thick layer of clearcoat on it now .
