This mini concert was only officially announced 30 minutes before JK took the stage. Big Hit had given a hint earlier in the day on the BTS TwiX account, and ARMY being ARMY deduced it was going to be at Times Square (I swear we all have bloodhound x Sherlock Holmes in our DNA). So they began gathering, putting the word out on socmed. By the time of the show, there was approximately 10,000 people gathered to watch. It was so cool. No one else (except Taylor perhaps) could pull this off in such an eye-popping way.

"Everyone of them is a frontman in their own right" - Agreed! And each one with a completely different vibe and genre. Crazy.

This is my favorite JK's solo performance so far. He did such a spectacular job! JK debuted as a soloist with his single "Seven" last July and then released another single "3D" in September, and then his album just this November 3. He has done some performances with sizeable audience to promote his singles (GMA, Global Citizen Festival), so this is not his first solo appearance, but with JK (with BTS as a whole, really), there's always an air of sincere gratitude for any opportunity to perform for ARMY, where they give their 110% to their performances.

Funny that you said that JK could say one word and the crowd will go insane. JK was on MCountdown a day or so ago and he took a sip of water and the fans started screaming. The look on his face was priceless. Lol This is his 8th MCountdown win this year.

This mini concert of 5 songs was a "surprise" for ARMY and others in NY Times Square. The day before it happened all we got was there was a surprise coming in NY. Some ARMY saw there were his Calvin Klein ads running on the TSX billboard and kept an eye out. 30 minutes before the show, it was officially announced. 30 minutes - and look at all the people that showed up...and at rush hour 5:30 pm in NY no less. He did amazing, but I agree the sound, especially in his first song skipped and went in and out a bit. All the songs he did are off his new album GOLDEN that came out on November 3rd. The fans already knew the lyrics and were singing along, even though it was not even out for a week yet. Anyway, I look forward to your Part 2, and also Good Luck with your next show and your own album!

I really like "Yes Or No" a lot too... such a great song... can't get it out of my head... I find myself humming it at random times everyday.

JK is always so impressive to me with how consistent his performances are. PS - wishing you and the band all the best for your LA show!!!!

Jungkook love to perform he is live stage king

Jungkook is the bestest hands down. Live performance is where he stands apart from EVERY body else, cuz not only he is blessed with natural talent he also loves being on stage and performing.

He is well trained...and the most stable vocals I've seen also...JK is amazing vocalist and great dancer!

So excited for this reaction this whole surprise performance is just amazing this proves the power of bts and army wether it’s group or solo the support of army is so incredible This event was officially announced 30mins before the performance and yet you can see how nyc filled the streets of time square it’s just omg.. indeed they say it was a good maybe cause NYC army was anticipating that maybe just maybe jk will have an event on that Day cause it says on his album promotion schedule that there will be a special event on nov 9-10 since he was at today show citi concert on nov 9 so the next day the army speculating that he might have an another event at NYC but no one knows what would it be or where would it be the sure thing it would be somewhere in NYC time square and how army got a strong gut feeling during rush hour at New York City bts official twitter account posted a tweet saying HEY NYC army be ready jk will be performing live at the time square tsx stage in 30mins can you believe it that the street would be filled with that thousand of crowed within just 30mins omg see how powerful army and bts bond is.. it’s just so unbelievable and I’m proud of the youngest he really is a super star 💜💜💜

He’s performed in Times Square before with BTS for new years but this is his first time in Times Square solo. This was not his first live performance of the new album. So glad you’re planning to do the whole performance! You should check out the MV and some of the other live performances if you have the time.

Thanks for the video, especially during one of your busiest times. You are right. Each member is a stand alone solo star. What other band has 7 superstars? Keep grinding. Your star is shining brighter each day.

Can't wait for part 2! It's not Jungkook' first time performing in Times, square, he did it once with BTS for New year's Rocking Eve but it was his first time in that stage that is placed in a huge billboard. Jungkook is the second artist to do so! A fun fact is that neither BigHit or BTS or any official account confirmed this performance until the 30 minutes countdown and just watching that huge crowd is very impressive. Everything started with an army theory bc of the past post malone concert and especially bc when the were preparing that stage the Jungkook x Calvin Klein add was playing first in that billboard lol And then, the BTS account hours later said "tomorrow there's an special even" and boom, the time square was filled with armys in a random Thursday. The surprise event could literally be any other thing and some armys even started doubting that morning bc out of nowhere a BTS official listening party on the Stationhead app started and people thought Jungkook was the one that did it just like the past ones but that one lasted way longer. Then army was like "Wait! Nah guys, this is just a distraction but still keep streaming, the signs are there and we have connected the dots" lmao I love it 🔥🔥 Imagine if Jungkook didn't perform at Times square... that would be definitely the biggest army clown party in history 😂😭😭

This was not a scheduled performance there was a 30-minute notice given that JK would perform. People started flooding into Times Square by the time JK started an estimated 20-30K people filled Times Square and another 250K watched online on various platforms. 💖🐰💜

The weather was approximately 45 Fahrenheit, and JK had lit nothing covering him from the cold. That is why he was breathless with the first song. He is a TRUE artist! JK never disappoints, his vocals and moves were incredible. He really is a golden star our golden maknae.

Lucky! How did you find out about it and when did you get there?

He performed solo for the World Cup last year, and then since Seven was released in July he's had solo stages. Just the night before this performance he was on the Tonight Show, so it wasn't his first, but I wonder if the adrenaline was pumping bc this was a pop-up show. Only officially announced 30 minutes prior, with not much for spoilers. Just vaguely mentioning something on the show the night before, and then an Army who noticed they were washing the windows and that there was a mic stand in TS so twt Army where already on site since the afternoon, but I wonder if it was just all the uncertainty of who would show up, and how great the crowd was and maybe just the vibe. He was absolutely feeling so good though, so joyful!

The album is wasn’t even out of a week at this point! So proud of him!!

Jk's adrenaline is so strong if i was in his shoes I would collapse after the first song 😂 Singing live and dancing at the same time. Well what do i expect from a man who practices his vocal singing whilst running on the treadmill for hours.

he calls the backup dancers the Golden Boys, He release 2 singles, Seven and 3D a lit bit ago, then a couple of days before the Time Square concert he dropped the single Standing Next to You with the full English Album, he performed on Jimmy Fallon and then like 2 days later performed in Time Square, he chose to launch and performed his album in America first, then he flew back to South Korea, he is doing a live concert there this week the will stream live for free. FYI 3D featured Jack Harlow and Seven feature a rapper named Latto.

Jk always surprises us with what he does in terms of performance, singing, way of thinking and his amazing talent.. His New album Golden really shows it all!

U gotta check his whole "golden" album too. All of the songs are super gd..and chosen very smartly..

I still can't believe this was only announced 30 minutes prior. It was packed! Even in places that didn't show up in this video - other people captured it. It was crazy. And the crowd/ARMY knew pretty much every word, and the album had not even been out for a week at that point.

That was what impressed me the most about Hobipalooza, how the crowd knew the lyrics to all the songs of an album that had dropped about two weeks before. If that’s not loving an artist I don’t know what is.

The entire album is awesome!!

There was a 30-minute notice about the surprise free concert at Times Square, so seeing how many showed up within just 30 minutes is insane that is probably why he has such an adrenaline rush. He has performed at Time Square before with BTS for the New Years event.

Love your review! I am still so amazed by him in one of their episodes wherein they have to guess the notes played while their backs were turned and JungKook just went and guessed in one go 🎉

Re: the sound mixing. What you're watching here is the live stream of the show at Times Square, so there's been no post production on this video at all. The various ways of post-mixing a live performances is a big thing I find very fascinating, and we've had all sorts of tactics presented to us via all the various concert and performance releases. I greatly enjoy when I clearly hear their live vocals over the backing track, hearing how they solve the puzzle of dancing like they do while also having the breath control to sing like that! So while I agree that this video could certainly have had a better and fuller soundscape if the mix was better, I definitely find things here I enjoy a lot too. 🎉

JK was listed in the top 200 list all-time best singer in the world, whether in the past or present by Rolling Stones Magazine, if I recall. That really says something about his ability. He is well known for his vocal stability to sing live like his actual recordings. You must listen to his first solo album, Golden. It is incredible!!! He also has put out a couple of beautiful songs for ARMY in Korean. Jungkook is getting better and better as he continues his career as a soloist as well as being in his group BTS.
