I love books about book publishing …it’s like being let into the back story of some really interesting authors!

I absolutely adored It Lasts Forever and Then It's Over! I read the e-book version and loved it so much that I had to go out and buy a physical copy. I hope you enjoy it too!

Picking a good vacation read is THE most daunting task 😂 and ooooh, that d.h lawrence sounds fascinating! And oooh excited to checkout the creators you mentioned! I too need to read giovannis room sooner rather than later. So many reminders to turn to that one!

Yes! Exactly. Do you also travel with an e reader? I tried once and it was alright. I returned it afterwards. But I do have a Kindle app on my phone just in case!

Hi Renee!!! I read The Dud Avocado a few years back and remember embarrassingly little about it....but that's standard for most of my reads, oops! I'm currently reading lots of fluffy summertime things, which is something I've never done before. Hi, Renee, I just had to tell you about My Dark Vanessa by Kate Russell. The novel Lolita plays a prominent part in that book. It's quite a well-written, compassionate and provocative take on current issues. I was glued!

Vickie, I’m glad you reached out because My Dark Vanessa is one of my favorite contemporary books. The themes are so so complicated.

I like 'Room with a View' as much as 'Howards End' - equally, in their different way. I'm due for a re-read of 'A Passage to India' which I also liked. You're selling the 'Dud Avocado'. I now want to read it.

Appreciate your kind words about Albany (which often gets a bad rap) I worked for "the State" in downtown Albany for 30 years -- love that area!

The Dud Avocado was the first NYRB i bought and i still haven't read it! it sounds so summery, i'll need to get to it soon. thank you for reminding me of it!

Really? It’s one of the first ones I bought too! During a sale, I think I bought about 5. One was Stoner by John Williams. Oh how I love that book.

Thank you for being SO REAL! You crack me up when you crack up over something you’re relating I am currently rereading some Amy Tan and some Anthony Horowitz from my dusty TBR stack. Ah, thank you very much! I’m glad you’re here! Ooh Anthony Horowitz. I read his Magpie mystery I guess that was during the pandemic. Summer reads…let me know what you get yourself into.

Oh, you're in for a treat with Picnic at Hanging Rock. It's a wonderfully ethereal and ultimately inexplicable nightmare-mystery with a real sense of something inarticulable. Also, I don't know if you're much of a movie person, but Peter Weir's adaption is one of the few cases where the film is even better than the book.

You really like that Dundy book. I wonder if you see yourself in the protagonist! I just finished "Sapiens" and now I'm working on "Maniac" which is a novelization of the life of mathematician John von Neumann. Sapiens was pretty good once you adjusted for the author's somewhat misanthropic agenda...

Maniac sounds fascinating. It’s funny about Sally Jay from The Dud Avocado. I’m living a thrilling youth through her for sure!

I am especially fond of Taylor’s View of the Harbour-but she has no duds at all; all her novels are good.
