She has a style similar to Anna Moffo! And the looks of Joan Sutherland! What very good fast passages and the GLEAM in her top voice I'm really impressed by this lady

I can think of no other soprano more excellent in Rossini than June .. with perhaps the addition of Beverly's L'Assedio - June reigns supreme in Rossini and Bellini - Bravissima!

Absolutely wonderful. A brilliant performance of this aria. June Anderson is the worthy successor of the great Joan Sutherland.

In fact, she is quite better than Sutherland. No nasal, no fake.

Her best "Bel Raggio", and that's saying something.

I know. It's been years of listening to June's rendition of this piece over and over again for me. She's just intoxicating. I have it on CD, and her high E's and perfectly articulated runs sound ever crisper on it.

Only Callas and Sutherland stand alongside June Anderson in this aria. Superb in every way. A true bel canto lesson as we don't hear anymore. Bravissima.

Come on. Callas was technically perfect (I mean, her dynamics) but her voice was ugly and this aria requires beauty of tone as well. Regarding Sutherland, she had a wonderful voice when she was under 30. The rest of her career is pure fake singing. So Anderson is, by far, better than those two in this particular aria (and better than Sutherland in almost every other one she sang).

I would disagree. Sutherland owns this aria, but Anderson is spectacular here.

Minha preferida nessa ária. Muito digna e elegante.

If you like this, Netflix the live DVD with June Anderson, Marilyn Horne, and Samuel Ramey in Semiramide. Luckily that historic performance was caught on film for us to enjoy.

Incredible is right! This is her best version of Bel Raggio, I think. Prefer it to her earlier version on the Dal Vivo en Concerto CD or the later Met live performance.

magicmonkichi She had a very distinguished career, mostly in Europe. Even in the 2000s, she was singing a very fine Norma, as well as Strauss’s Daphne and Salome.

@@wotan10950 Sorry David. I was at work and just scrolling comments on the elevator and intended to check it out after work. It just goes against all I had heard from critics at the time who said she looked like Sutherland, had great coloratura, but it was a lyric sized voice. I never heard her live so I had nothing but ear-witnesses to report what she sounded like live. I had no idea she had a big voice as well. Thanks.

She was amazing. I heard her Traviata live in the early 90's, she was spectacular, in every aspect. I remember the poor Alfredo was a Japanese short tenor, he always had to sing on top of something to not look like a dwarf if he got too close to Anderson, she is quite tall and had a splendid figure as well.

My God - the '80s Gown and Hair! But she looks and sounds wonderful. A lyrical feminine interpretation rather than imperious.

FYI, the 2 high notes (at 6:24 and at the end) are not High E's, but High F !!!

Looks like it was filmed with a potato. The style of the dress isn't entirely flattering. But the singing is glorious! The voice is at its peak here ,and I don't care if the embellishments aren't authentic Rossini style - they're beautiful and exciting! A performance on par with La Stupenda's recording on The Art of the Prima Donna.

Mi piacerebbe saperne di piu: so poco di June Andserson e l' ammiro moltissimo, per quel che ne ho ascoltato.Vorrei poterla ascoltare anche in un repertorio a lei poco adatto e meno riuscito, per valutare meglio.Potrei avere qualche indicazione? Grazie
