I personally share your enthusiasm, as finding an old " Cosmic Blue" from my childhood in the 70's in the attic round my Folks, a few years ago, is exactly what got me collecting Matchbox cars all over again 😁 . .

The dinky tanker is not a Type 1 as both the type 1 and 2 have an open chassis - this one has a closed chassis and ridges on the wheel hubs - prewar and immediately postwar versions had smooth hubs. So i suspect when the grille came out, its brought some of the casting with it to create the 'square' hole at the front - but other than the chassis and the hubs, the casting is the same as the early versions - so why not restore it in a pre-war colour scheme - they were much more striking and Blacksquare do the decals :)
