The jump rope boxer step is basically when you're alternating your feet when jumping and each time transferring the weight of your body on each foot. There's many variations to the boxer step, like adding different footsteps and tricks into the boxer step.
This tutorial is going to teach you the foundation oh how to do the jump rope boxer step where you can then build on top more sophisticated types of footwork.
The jump rope boxer step is the best thing you can do to train on your footwork. It increases your agility, your mobility, and of course your style.
There's something important I need to say here. The jump rope boxer shuffle is not a trick I can simply give you directions to and you can go out there and try it out and have it work. It doesn't work like that for most of the tricks in jump rope.
To be able to do the jump rope boxer step, you're going to need to develop skills that will come before it.
In this video, I'm going to give you three practical footwork you can do to train on the boxer step.
From personal experience, and helping people learn the jump rope boxer skip, you should need around four sessions of training more or less depending on your level to be able to do the boxer step. Each session is going to be 15 minutes long. And you're going to focus on one specific skill each time.
On the first 15 minute session, I want you to train on being able to jump on one foot. So for 15 minutes, I want you to try to keep jumping on one foot and changing every 20 jumps or so.
Training to jumping on one foot is going to teach you to balance yourself while jumping on one foot.
On the second session, I want you to jump on each foot four times and switching directly to the other foot. So you're doing four jumps on one foot and you switch to doing four jumps on the other foot.
This exercise is going to teach you how to alternate between steps.
If you've somewhat been jumping for a couple of months, you could be able to do session one and two in one session, one maybe longer session, twenty minutes to thirty minutes.
Now for the third and fourth session, we're going to do the kickback kick forward. For the kickback kick forward, what you're going to do is jump on one foot and with the other foot, you're going to kick it once to the back and once to the front, and then switchfoot.
The main purpose of the kickback kick forward is to help your body adapt to the moving weight of your body, as well as train you on your timing.
At first, it might not be very easy, but you'll get a hold of it.
At this point during the fifth session, you should be ready to do the boxer step. Just like we did in session two where you were jumping four times on each foot, I want you to do it once on each foot.
And then switching directly to the other foot. With practice, you won't need to raise each foot you're not jumping on as much anymore. And it becomes very close to the kickback kick forward.

For tricks, a lighter jump rope is better. However if you have a cable that is REALLY thin. Like the ones in speed ropes, then those aren't good for tricks. Medium weights is best because it gives you a good feedback and speed! What is your jump rope brand name so I can directly check it out?
