July Allotment Garden Tour 2023
It's an extra long episode this month because there's just so much to update you on! We'll take a look at how the squash arches are doing, check in on the fish and I also share their new names as picked by you. The poly tunnel is bursting with crops and the wedding flowers are well on their way.

Gosh, I wish America would have allotments 's. They make so much sense for citizens to be able to provide food for their families. Organic food is quite expensive here. It seems as though growing your own food and teaching the next generation how to might make too much sense! I thoroughly enjoy your videos. So excited for your future and congratulations on your wedding. Have a wonderful day.
Your gentle nature is lovely to watch. Good luck with your big day 😊
Hi Katrina, those red dahlias suit you well imho :) beautiful flowers.

Hiya Katrina Thankyou for the update. Such lovely flowers and those sleepy bees bless thy are soo busy! Will like below friendly comments. Blessings luv Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
My sister also made dried flower arrangements and sold them. 2 of her daughters are now florists and have 2 shops
Lovely... please could you do a special segment about what you cook and your diet? You seem to favour spicy food.... thank you so much....❤
Thank you for another lovely garden tour. I can't wait to see how big Jack Be Massive is going to be.
Lovely garden, weeds and all. I think most if not all of us really enjoy seeing your space in all its variations.
Coucou Encore une belle vidéo bravo 👏 A bientôt
Luv ur allotment with all the weeds. ❤❤❤
Hey Katrina - enjoy your wedding day. I hope you get a chance to share photos from the day with us all and that the flowers look just the way you are planning. Best wishes for the day to you both - Matthew
It’s always a treat to go on a guided tour with you. Everything is looking great. Anxiously waiting to see your floral arrangements made with your garden gifts. Thank you so much for sharing with us.👍❤️😊
That dahlia is gorgeous! I also make snails fly 😂
So beautiful! Even in its July wild state, your garden (and your personality) are just wonderful.

Looks great, weeds and all. I could hear the foxglove seeds falling, amazing what grows from the tiniest seeds. I haven't had any butterflies to speak of this season, I can count on one hand what I've seen. Wish I could swap some sun for rain, I'd love 3 - 4 days of a nice quiet steady rain.
I became so excited when you said Merida that's really made my day so lovely to watch your video makes me smile I'd image your becoming so excited about your wedding and may I say thank you for bringing us along with your wedding floral ideas Xx

I love your infectious enthusiasm. Thanks for sharing and best wishes for your wedding! Xxx
The pond is looking great with the new fish, the cage is working really well, you certainly got lots of seeds from the foxglove, the climbing rose has taken really well and the new cosmos colour is stunning, my two tomato plants I have outside have lots of green tomatoes on, I just hope they ripen 🍅👍, the allotment is stunning, well done Katrina 👍x
You could grow a selection of wedding flowers each year and display them for your anniversaries 🥰

Thanks for your videos, love to follow you, with all the crop coming up and a wedding with a lot of work I do hope you can ask for help with all the flowers later on . In the end the wedding is about you and your husband 💕👩🌾
Thank you Katrina for chosing Seumas (Scots Gaelic for James). Look after my boy! Isla is also a nice name and believe it or not, many years ago I knew a lady called Isla White! (No kidding.) 😅

Hiya Thankyou for sharing your thoughts. 🇨🇦🐝
I enjoyed your tour so much! I had my garden in fairly good shape, went to the beach for a week, came home to a jungle! I’m in West Virginia, USA. While we were gone there were high winds and two trees were blown down into our yard. Luckily they didn’t damage anything, just made a big mess. I also have a rogue squash. A friend gave me four buckets of donkey manure. I have been using it for compost tea around my tomatoes. A vine started to grow. And grow. AND GROW! I watched it as it as it slowly took over. It is a pumpkin. I think the seed was in the donkey poo. Now I’m asking myself why I let it grow. I do have one large pumpkin which has come under the fence. Again, I enjoyed your video, especially the flying snail! 😂 I’m excited to see your wedding flowers and wedding photos. Good luck with the battle of the weeds and unpredictable weather patterns. 💚
Glorious weather in Scotland, warm and sunny 😂
Hi Katrina, we are just the opposite here in Texas. We are in a major heat wave and have had not rain in 80 days. Temps are 105 to 109 deg F and no change in site. Your garden is beautiful. Blessing to you, Rochelle
So relaxing. Not sure about that bee's tongue though 😂
I have an allotment in Germany and I must say the Garden stresses me out a lot this July and beginning of August. We have so much rain and I just can not control the weeds, the Flowers are so behind and everything is so overgrown. I hope the rest of August will be better! Your Garden looks wonderful🌳
Nice video! Yes, exactly the same weather in the Netherlands, it has been raining here for 3 weeks, some days the sun does not even break through the clouds.
I think that bee with long tongue gets into the long trumpet like flowers
Wow! You'll have so many great wedding flowers! Your pond plants are doing so well and I love the fish names, including Isla.

I can understand your infectious excitement over your dahlias i enjoy growing them. Two new ones i am growing this year are Maroon Fox and Arabian Nights. All the best for your wedding. Bryan fae Orkney.
You are looking so lovely. Thanks for the advice re shaking tomato plants. I didn’t know that was a thing, also removing the bottom leaves 🧡💛🧡
Love the channel. My kids watch too. I have 3 Seamus, Isla and Olithia. The first 2 are delighted to hear their names this week. Any chance you could give a cheeky shout out to Olithia. She was a bit sad she didn't hear her name 😊
I'll remember the yellow fussy faced bee for sure - like little teddy bears.
Enjoy the rain! In Austin, TX we've hit 100F/38C (and higher) every day for the last several weeks. No good rain since May :( There are cracks all over the soil were there aren't woodchips.
Thanks Katrina for a lovely tour. Enjoyed your potato reveal too. About to do some of mine to make space for sowing rainbow chard for the autumn. Just harvested our 4th cucumber grown out doors against a fence, which has sheltered it from the rough weather.
I have a *very* red medium sized dahlia this year also. It was supposed to be a lovely pink dinner plate. The company actually contacted me because they learned of their mistake. I don't usually grown red flowers and wow does this one stand out.
ithink it looks great well done katrina
The flowers are all beautiful!!!! I love all the colors! It's been hot and sunny (over 90 F all July) Will evening rain every few days. My flowers and tomatoes are doing great.

Your garden always looks so green and lush. I miss living in a wetter climate sometimes. Of course I was never able to grow cantaloupe then so there are trade offs. Now I've been harvesting beans, tomatoes, zucchini, kohlrabi, jalapenos and figs (yum). The work always seems less tedious when there are good eats at hand to pick. I look forward to your garden tours so keep them up. Of course if you miss one this fall I wouldn't blame you.
The pond looks great, the Medaka fish will probably deposit their eggs on the roots of the water lettuce. Eggs take about 14 days to hatch in tiny fry, hopefully some of your fry will be able to hide from the adults. Great end of July update. 😊

Oh that’s interesting Thankyou 🇨🇦🐝
Always inspiring. Can’t wait to see your dahlias in bloom. Sometimes the garden can get away from you when the weather is bad. But it’s great when you get time to get in there. Here’s hoping you get a perfect Indian summer. I try and design my garden to be low maintenance - use lots of tubs, pots and high raised beds. It’s been wet, windy and frosty here in South Australia. My spuds got whacked by the frost - but no worries I just ate them early. My new lemon tree got hammered too - we’ll have to see how that goes. Grew Romesco Caulis for the first time. You should try them - they are amazing !! Thanks for another awesome video.
Thank you so much for your honesty, this year has been really hard for me for lots of reasons and it's easy to feel like a failure but this was so refreshing and honest, done me the world of good x
Awww the fish are so cure ❤
I'm in Scotland and I will be growing my first Dahlias next season. Also my chillis went well last year, but this year I have neglected many chilli sawing as I was focusing on my brand new blue shed! I'm so excited, what a shed does to your allotment! It means I can stay longer, make a tea and I have shelter when rains:)

Hi Katrina you must be excited about your wedding. It has been wet and windy hasn’t it. We have been to cornwall for a week and I can’t believe how things have grown and we had so many beans wen we got back. Our peas were finished b4 we went. Looking forward to seeing your wedding flowers x👍🙋🏻
If I had just half the success you have in your allotment, I would be thrilled. For the first time, I’m growing tomatoes in a poly tunnel using the string method and pruning to one stem. The results are amazing. I’ve always grown tomatoes out in the ground, but never again. Thanks for sharing your tour and knowledge!

Your allotment is looking fabulous 💚 I’m so excited about your Dahlias 🌸. I don’t have much fruit on my tomato 🍅 plants and the ones I have are still green too. I need to harvest my foxglove seeds on a dry day, I’ve done my poppies. But I just love my foxgloves even though they are done, I love the tallness of them in my garden. I’ll miss them when they are gone 🥺.

Been there -please pace yourself. When it comes to wedding planning it's easy to overload. Don't let the "I can do that" ruin your big day - delegate. Find professionals or friends that can become gate-keepers to keep you sane and on track. It's horrible to arrive at a wedding emotionally exhausted, where cherished moments end in a blur . Your garden is wonderful, not just because its beautiful but a great place for reflection; drink a cup of tea and clear your head. The day itself is a only the beginning, please don't allow expectations of any kind ruin the experience. Believe me - It's a hard lesson to learn - love the channel.
Your jack be little looks like a pumpkin. I did the exact same thing this year. I thought I planted cucumber now I have a few pumpkins on it..
An interesting tour of the plot, some August sunshine should bring you masses of blooms and crops. Your bumblebee’s strange tongue was its leg but what it’s doing 🤷♂️. Take care, happy growing.
We are on the verge of winter turning too spring here in Australia!! Had a huge big planting session in the hopes of getting an early start on some crops!! Pssttt!! You can have my bras if you want!! They are plenty big enough!! LOL!!

Magnifique jardin ❤
Wrt your jack b massive, last year I ordered neon pumpkin. The seeds came in a neon pumpkin packet but, when they grew, I had a variety pack!
My sister used to grow Scabious helichrysum or straw flowers statice larkspur and gladdys. To name but a few and they boxed and sent to look neon Covent Garden. I grew statice and sent to Covent garden
What a lovely diversion from storm Antoni🙂. Can you brace your arched trellis with strong string in x x side to side fashion, it would stop sideways movement. Suppliers make mistakes, the rhubarb root I bought from Homebase in the spring isn’t as described. It’s turned out to be a Chinese rhubarb - not very happy. You’ve got to be 5 9 at least 😀
Looking great Katrina, just need some ☀ to bring out the blooms 👌

I had to put some of the Apricotta Cosmos seeds in my cart. 95 degrees farenheit here .
Your squashes are looking great - fingers crossed the frames will hold! Perhaps a friend with bigger bras could help? 😁 I haven’t done well with squash this year - I sowed loads of them but I think there was an issue with the compost I used and they either didn’t germinate, or the seedlings died, or if they survived that they got eaten by slugs and snails! 🐌 What I do have instead are a lot of volunteer squash that may or may not be pumpkins - they emerged from compost I dig out of my hot bin and now I have about 10 of them! Fingers crossed they are edible and not one of those dodgy bitter ones that sometimes happen 🤞🏻
Wow you’re diddy like me, I’d have guessed you were 5’7” 😮 I’m always interested in how tall celebrities are so thanks for sharing 😉 Just re the pumpkins I’ve had sooo many wonky seeds this year it’s quite incredible really 🤷♀️ the most disappointing is an alleged sungold plant I picked up when I had bad germination and it’s something awful instead. Never mind, it’s making for interesting vids 😂

I grew 2 dahlias from seed last year and one was a pretty pale yellow/white and the other was pinky peach colour. Well! This year they changed to a real garish acid yellow and a mid red that’s just a bit , blah? I don’t really want to plant them next year coz I don’t know if the change is permanent 🤷🏻♀️ Maybe I’ll save some seeds and see if they made something interesting 🤔 The bees are still enjoying them!🐝

Great video Katrina. I had to laugh to myself halfway through when you talked about your bra not being big enough to hold that squash as I’ve just finished watching another allotment video and I recommended to her to either use a face mask or a bra to hold her pumpkin/squash as I’ve seen it on Gardeners World I’m sure a few years ago. Hopefully she follows you too and sees you mention it and doesn’t think I’ve lost the plot!!! Deb x

This year in PEI Canada May was incredibly hot. June was quite cold and some of our trees have sections of leaves that turned to fall colours. July was really extreme. It was either pouring rain or extremely hot. It has gotten to the point that it was difficult to keep up with the grass, let alone the garden.

I'm surprised how behind your chilies are. Did you sow them late? Iv'e already had crops from my Jalapenos, which subsequently suffered from spider mites for the second year running. I had a great crop from my over wintered Masala plants, which also then sadly got the mites. My habanero have now started to fruit and thankfully, touch wood, seem to be free of the dreaded mites but I'm keeping a close eye on them. Great video as always. 😃
Looked a bit like a pumpkin to me!
