I did have a record month for myself in July because I am a teacher, and I was on the summer break. I think I did 18.

I really like the orange Mandela where you use the alcohol marker as a base. I'm watching this again for the 3 or 4th time and I'm seeing the layers today. It looks to me today, much more 3D!

I had a similar experience with the Winsor Newton WC markers. I expected them to go on the page and then blend out with water.. and they really don't, they just kind of stick where you put them and streak rather badly. They were basically no different than any other waterbased markers I had only much thicker with less pleasant tips and very much more expensive. I gave mine away as well. I think the best way to use them is to draw them onto a palette and then pick them up with a brush, but you can do that with any waterbased marker.

I will be trying to use them up! I have found them to be okay on small mandalas so will use them there, seems a waste but better than chucking them away!

I've been enjoying my "mandalas with borders" book quite a bit. I got vol 5 just because they seemed to get more elaborate as they went and I liked the look of it. I've been using it to trial and test my newer pencils, it's small enough that it's not a huge investment of time but complete enough to really give them a workout. I did several types of watercolor pencils and while the paper did buckle it handled them fine. One sided so no worry about having to color on the back. My Pablos hated it though, no matter what I did they just wouldn't go down evenly or with good coverage. My last one was some "new to me" 180 set of alcohol markers by Bianyo, The Frugal Crafter said they were good and they are very inexpensive.. no brush tip but that is part of the reason for the lower cost. I wanted the full set of Ohuhu but can't quite bring myself to pay that much, maybe for Christmas. My only complaint is that many of the colors come out much darker than advertised (that is where Ohuhu shines, so many truly pastel and otherwise unique colors) so I need a new swatch sheet I think, the one they provide is a coated paper and the colors are not accurate in comparison to plain paper. Otherwise they went down just great and very little odor. I topped them with my Chromaflow which I hadn't used since I bought the full set, and they were a lovely pair.. the Chromaflow just glide onto the paper, similar to Polys, yet are opaque so they go over the marker to shade and highlight with ease.. and they are quite thin which makes it easy to get into the little spaces. Thick pencils are lovely to hold but sometimes I struggle to fit them into spaces especially in detailed or small illustrations. I really like the color selection in the 72 as well, they don't repeat colors nearly as much as other brands (often it seems like half a set is almost identical yellows, warm reds, or cool blues which frustrates me to no end).. so you get a lot more variation and usability in a smaller set. There is a pastel for each hue as well which is so nice. I liked the combo so much I'm going to start a full page with it in Forest Song later today. I feel like the Chromaflow don't get anywhere near enough respect in the coloring community, they are my favorite thing Derwent has done, other than the Inktense which really are a unique product unlike any other pencil.

I have to say that out of the Derwents, I do think the colour range in the Chromaflow seems the best, although I do not have all of them. Glad you are enjoying the mandalas with borders book too.

The animal you thought is a Tapir is a Capybara. Tapirs have a funny dangly nose. All your pages are amazing as usual. I wish i could colour as quickly as you xxx

I was so pleased when I saw the notification for your completed pages video, with the added bonus of your beautiful picture. I grabbed a cup of coffee and started watching. Your implementation of the color cubes is beautiful. I also like the look of the pages you coloured with water color markers (just got a few kuretake zig and playing with them too, but I’m going to check W&N when finished writing this comment 🙂). Thank you. I colour 5-10 hours a day on average I guess, depending on how much editing and computer work I do and whether I go out or not! I do not go out much!!

Rachel. What are pan pastels - are they better than Mungo Pastels?

They are compressed powder in a little flat tub rather than sticks, very expensive. The ones I have are metallic and pearlescent, so very different to mungyo and therefore hard to compare. They are much more expensive but might last longer, there is certainly more in the pot.

Will you please show your art area where you work. Do you ever color while watching tv?

I sit at a desk in the sitting room. There is a computer on the desk and I tend to watch TV on there or on my tablet as i can't really see the tv well from there. If I sit on the sofa to watch TV I sometimes colour too, using a small set of pencils.

Give the taper some soul, fill in her eye!
