Thanks for the update Rob and a peek into the life of an entrepreneur. It takes a lot of courage, commitment and specialized knowledge to create any great product. However, much of that specialized knowledge is gained during the design phase of the product and that always take more time than can be pre-estimated. Brilliant, Thanks for the update. Love getting peeks into your process as it often helps me out as well. I also had settled on a similar type construction for my batteries and I to was having an issue with getting a good way to connect with the "PAPER" on mine as well. It appears this should work for me as well, Cant wait to try it out. You have given me the blueprints on how to construct my batteries. Rarely, will a person go on the internet looking for ideas and ways to do something and find such a perfect fit and layout as I have found in your video's. To find you were designing and building your own at the same time I was looking for that info. is just amazing. Then to find you are posting video on exactly how to experiment and find what version works best for them and to find you are FREELY giving that info. away without asking any compensation for your self and have no patents on your work, at the time you so badly need capitol to build your own products is unbelievably kind of you. All I can say is , You are one of the few true SAINTS and have been a GOD sent "Miracle of Science" for me . THANK YOU !!! so very much for all you do to help others who do not have a large surplus of cash available. I would not have been able to produce my own "even small" system if not for your help and Info. as I can not afford to simply BUY enough batteries to make up the battery bank but, I CAN however afford to build my own batteries with your help. GOD BLESS you and surely you will find the money and/or help you need for your project.

I have just discovered your brilliant selves ! You guys are the epitome the 'garden shed' inventor & accomplice.. I love the way you have come up with a very British way of tackling the Graphene problem , why not start a crowd funding campaign . I think your supercap batteries will be perfect for the aero industry as well as the car.

Im happy to hear you are in the process of verification. As soon as that verification comes out, youll make sales. Those sales will allow for you to expand your production into new areas. Just make sure and choose those other areas wisely. You are undoubtedly and very kind and generous person, else you wouldn't share this info with all of us. I really hope someone like you becomes successful in business because the business world desperately needs someone to be successful with your attitude. The others will imitate when they see the success and the world will quickly become a much better place.

Thank you for the update Robert, it looks like you've made some great progress, and have come up with some novel solutions to the manufacturing challenges that lay ahead. With regards to copyright, I'm not a solicitor but I'm not sure that demonstration is sufficient for protecting copyright (I'm referring to 09:42 in the video "and showing it here means that design, unless it exists elsewhere, is now our copyright"). There is a concept of prior art, which should protect you from being sued if someone came up with a similar design at a later stage, but that doesn't stop someone from copying the design (or come up with something which is strongly inspired by the design). I would suggest that patents wouldn't need to exist if all someone needed to do to protect an idea would be to demonstrate that they came up with the idea first. If you've had advice from an intellectual property lawyer about this then feel free to ignore what I'm suggesting, but otherwise it might be worth double checking with an expert.

cheers mate in English law copyright is automatically granted for any creative design work once the idea has been physically expressed. A patent is basically a roadmap for theft and anyway every form of protection is only as good as the money you have to protect it.

I thought so, too. I was taught, in electrical theory, that the electrical constants (meaning what is constant in what kind of circuit) are current in series and voltage in parallel.

@@maintoc People get confused some times because the theories for resistance and power where parallel resistance loads draw more current ,series resisters drop more voltage ext.. In both cases though parallel is like the ties of the train tracks where the ties are the devices and the track is the wire. Series is like the lines on the high way and the lines the devises, the empty pavement the wire between the devices. So the minor boo boo was just getting the nomenclature reversed. We suggest just dropping a card there with an oops sorry we were high or something message in it. :)

Incredible!

Actually, cutting 4 tons of paper to a specific and exact size is not as expensive as it sounds. The hardest part will be positioning a 4 ton roll of paper. After that you can use electric knives to rough cut the layered sheets into manageable stacks and use a hydraulic press to die cut them with a high degree of precision. I used to manage a hat manufacturing plant here in Denver. We would cut several hundred pounds of cloth on day 1, seal the buckram to it the next day, stitch the cut pieces together the next day and embroider and finish a day later. The last day was for packing and shipping. We could make 10k hats per week with 2 shifts. Not bad when you consider we did it with numerous colors of cloth, styles of hats and different embroidery programs. Your success is closer than you think it is. Good show!

Cutting huge rolls of paper to distinct and repeatable sized sheets is basically the bread and butter of every newspaper producer. If your sheets behave so much like traditional paper that the manufacturing process can be adapted, surely this should also be a possibility. Also, it seems that you have achieved design lock. I would be very interested in seeing how the batteries react to over/undercharging, shorting, and piercing of the envelope/destruction/bending while fully charged. Perhaps something you might want to share in the next update Truely hope you guys can actually achieve this, and show that innovation can still come from privateers. Best of Luck!

Very interesting and all can be achieved in Chiang Mai - In February I will have my small workshop lab set up and can bring all stages of the paper and assembly together with support from a local uni and government asssitance.

Great to see the update. Looking forward to seeing your batteries on sale commercially. Could they be scaled up & connected to an inverter to power homes plug/lighting circuits? (I've had this dream for years of just paying Electric Co's for running a battery charger overnight, & living off battery energy daytime)

I know one of the nagging minor problems previously was the audio quality. I was always able to muddle through by paying extra close attention to hear the good stuff. :) But in this video, I found the quality to be especially GOOD, even here in a wide open lab. :D

Rob, have you thought of using a small laser cutter to cut up the 4-ton rolls? Works like a simple X-Y printer/plotter. You can program in any size and shape and quantity you like, regardless of thickness and other properties of the substrate. No repeated expensive tooling costs or wastage or delays if you want/need to change anything. Lase off exactly what you need on demand. Bang on lad, very much appreciated. Best regards to all.

The same thing that happens to lots of folks mate - some have gone onto different and better paid jobs, some are still here plugging along in the background. Money is tight so we only spend where we have to and where we can - but mostly we have back office guys doing the accounts and the like though you will be seeing more of them inthe near future

Robert, I am glad to see you back. Every time I see Stuart Varney, I think of you. Anyway, I have a technical question. What is the dividing point, in the carbon size/voltage uptake? What I mean is, dust is too small, and .25 inch chunks are too large, but what IS the largest usable carbon size? Likewise, what IS the smallest? Thanks for your hard work, and carry on.

Dear Robert , I have been a subscriber since 2015, have seen your journey from afar. Live in India now, i feel i can maybe help you along in your path. A storage solution for electric vehicles will be in great demand here since there is a policy shift towards electric vehicles and the time frame for implementation is very narrow. (2025 as per the govt) Lithium ion battery chemistry is the one every Manufacturer is looks at, however I feel we as a country are still decades away from adapting such a pricey battery chemistry. There is a sweet spot between lithium ion/iron phosphate chemistry and lead acid chemistry. Maybe with all the work you have done, you can find that middle ground. And i can assist you too. Would you consider Licenseing the process of converting the waste coal piles to a graphite. Those large battery companies would fight for your business. Tesla might even want to buy it outright. Maxwell got 230m why not Murray and the crew?

Hi Robert,thank you for your good explanation. Have you made testing of the lifespan at different charging and discharging rates? How many cycles do you expect at e.g. at a 0.2 or 1C rate in charging, discharging? I like the idea of making compostable batteries not harming the environment.

any types of plastic wrap that you can make one side conductive, and the other not so you don't need to put a piece of plastic between each flat cell? and what about thin wire grids like solar panels use to offset the need to have conductive contact over the whole thing... i think acrylic adhesives are expensive enough to consider the idea!

@Robert Murray-Smith is it possible to get your paper battery to replace lithium ion batteries in drones? I am currently making Autonomous drones for delivery usin 3 60 amps 14 volts batteries. What would be the volume of such specification? Woukd you be able to manufacture to supply?

A pleasure as always Robert. I was just wondering the other day how things were going. The paper plate version being too big! I'd be doing A3 sheets just to see what happens. On a more serious note, would put the smaller cells in some form of press counter the bobbling elements?

you could do mate but the pressure you would have to put on them would make it unservicable for the average person

can you make a video on how to use graphene to make solar cells
