Jukebox musicals are my guilty pleasure. Have had the playlist of this soundtrack saved for years. So excited to hear that it's finally moving to Broadway! One step closer to getting to see it live!

I was privileged to be at the Melbourne opening of & Juliet last Thursday night. What a high octane, dynamite show it is! Those amazing songs performed by a wonderful cast, 7 of whom were making their professional debuts. And to top it off, hit-maker extraordinaire Mr Max Martin was there on stage. If you are after a great night out at the theatre, this show hits all the right notes!

They can be fun. for me, the granddaddy of them all would be Ain't Misbehavin' - but that goes back a few years. I think they can fill the void that the 1980s mega-musicals have left (i.e. Phantom, Les Miz, etc - and what I mean by that is that in popular culture those musicals have largely ran their course.)

I saw this amazing show in Toronto many times. I fell in love with the story, songs and actors. Lorna’s singing is gold and the funniest scenes are between Paulo Szot and Melanie LaBarie as Lance and Angelique. Betsy Wolfe and Stark Sand are wonderful as Anne Hathaway and William Shakespeare. It is the best show this season by far!!!

Loved it so much! 😍 Makes you want to sing and dance 💃! What a fun show! Great twist on a classic story. 💜
Broadway is so lucky to be getting this incredible cast! Saw it a few times in Toronto and it's the most fun I've had at a show in years. Managed to see the full cast, and also Rachel Webb (u/s Juliet) and Tiernan Tunnicliffe (u/s Anne), who are also excellent!
Just the most glorious, amazing show. Paulo Szot steals the show as Lance. He is beyond perfect. He has the best voice, and never makes a mis step with his comedic timing and heartbreaking “Shape Of My Heart”. What a way to leave the pandemic behind. Can’t wait for it to come to Broadway! Tony Awards here we come!

So funny, the lyrics match the story dialog well and it's refreshing how Queer friendly this show is. About time!!

I just saw this a few days ago and wanted to know if any of the original cast was at my proformace and after watching this trailer I am at least assuming that like 90% of them were original! This is an amazing musical idc that it is jukebox. It is amazing. I wish I recorded the end at the bows like the woman next to me did but it was so amazing seeing the cast interacting with her.
Wonderful cast! Best of luck on Broadway!
I'm sure Shakespeare is completely fine with his play being turned into a "Now that's what I call Music" CD
I never seen it yet
I saw this show 3 times in Toronto including the closing show. Would love to see it on Broadway but so expensive! The cast are all amazing and so happy for Katy Geraghty who was wonderful in &Juliet. It was announced at the finale on Aug 14 that she would not be moving on with the cast - search her name to find out why. The cast was happy for her - nice to see that comradery among the players!
I juat say this on Broadway in NYC yesterday and it was freaking amazing! I saw the understudy for May and Angúlic (The nurse) and they were both fantastic! I woman who played Juliet had and incredible voice and was just simply amazing. Also I love the LGBTGIA+ representation in it, so even if you aren't LGBTQ you can still be seen in this musical. If you haven't seen it you absolutely should! Broadway is expensive but if you can afford it it is 100% worth it!
Looks phenomenal definitely will win a lot of Tony’s but not Best Musical that’s gonna be Kimberly Akimbo We will see Nevertheless & Juliet is a lock for many Tonys #&JulietfortheTony

William Shakespeare is about to finish his play Romeo and Juliet when his wife Anne Hathaway (yes that’s her real name) decided to change the end so Juliet didn’t kill herself and instead that would be the start of her new life
Why another jukebox musical 😭
idk, as a brit, the american accents are throwing me off but i have to see for myself
I'm so used to heating Stark Sands in a British accent that his real accent feels fake
Wow! This sounds like the most fun musical ever! I never really thought of what If Juliet didn't die, and their voices are so good...!!! This might be something I wanna see for my 16th birthday in June!
Saw it yesterday. Very lively, lots of great songs, cute plot and I wanted to dance a lot during the performance.
Juliet romeo play who killed romeo jan 15 2024 live while I'm alive eye of the tiger hear me roar music mlk
I usually can’t stand jukebox musicals, but Shakespeare singing the Backstreet Boys and Bon Jovi? Dammit, I’m in.
I saw this in London ... it's very loud with lots of colour, movement and bright lights. And that about sums it up really ... (in a polite way).
What if Romeo didn't kill himself for Juliet. You know the experienced swordsmen with many skills that would've been highly valuable during this time, who encouraged peace but stood up to the corrupted system by taking action against a murderer who would have likely walked free due to his relation to the prince. A young man forced away from everything he's ever known and loved struggling to start a new life in an unfamiliar city, whilst having to deal with the grief from the passing of both his wife and closest friend. Upon hearing that Juliet never died he becomes convinced that Tybalt was using her as a means of softening Romeo, leading Romeo to see mercy and love as a weakness that can be exploited, he isolates himself from all relationships and is set on a path for vengeance against the Capulet family. (don't correct my grammar bc idc)

Yes it's called a jukebox musical But there's one song written specifically for the musical
Thanks to Jagged Little Pill, I'm worried the broadway version will just make Mae a feminine gay guy, and not non binary like in the West End Production: which would be a shame because I fully sobbed when I realised there was a non binary person in a major production on West End, and it made my week.
@JustTei
Жыл бұрын
Nope, they're definitely non-binary!! I had the same reaction as you when I saw the show for the first time in Toronto. I've seen the show many many times during the Toronto pre-broadway run. They make it a very clear point throughout the whole show NOT to call them either a boy or a girl. In "I Kissed a boy/girl", ONLY May sings "I kissed a boy" when referring to Francois. Francois NEVER sings "I kissed a boy" about May. Francois originally sings "I kissed a girl" about May. May tells him that they're not a girl, and from that point on, Francois does not sing that line at all and never refers to May as a girl or as a boy. They're definitely not played as just a feminine gay guy. 100% non binary. The performer who plays May is also non-binary, and mentions how happy they are to be playing a non-binary character in the playbill. Literal perfection.
@ConcernedUserNow

@@JustTei Hiya! Just to clear stuff up Francois does sing the I kissed a girl line again but just for song purposes ig.
I really don't get the hype for this. You butcher William Shakespeare to write a play full of modern pop songs? Romeo and juliet is a masterpiece of how two opposite worlds can attract and how when they combine they can't be separated even in death. The pop songs I'd rather just go to the live concert.
@thatboylengirlsophieb1002

this musical doesn't mean that romeo and juliet is gone forever. it still exists. this is just a more modern version with female empowerment and diversity, or is that too much for you to handle?

This sounds like a very dumb idea for a story. Just by seeing this trailer I can see that even though it's a stupid idea for a story the covers of these songs probably make up for it because I actually like what I'm hearing
Probably not the place to say how much I distaste 'musicals' that are just kids bop-ear screeching renditions of actual songs. Big musical fan but these types are such a skip for me.

The script here is fantastic and you feel like the songs really justified their existence here, it feels like instead of creating a scene based on a pop song, they create an scene and then grab a pop song that feet’s the scene

Hmm..my kids saw it and they were enlightened
What a load of woke nonsense. Let's just bastardise every classic story in the name of the modern message.
The musical was good fun but it didn’t really make sense for Romeo to be the surrogate on the receiving end of feminists gripes with the patriarchy. In the original play Juliet has just as much agency as he does (and freely and willingly rebels against her parents but this & Juliet makes it seem as though she needs more encouragement to do what she likes). And in the original play Romeo hardly does anything particularly self centred any more than Juliet and yet apparently he’s the “douche” in the relationship when she is the one who wants to renege on their wedding vows. I think a character far more deserving of a feminist perspective sequel is Sandy from Grease. The celebrated values in that original movie were awful. Sandy learnt the lesson that she should change herself completely for the boy and to fit in with the cool group. She’s the one who needs confidence.
@andresmaldonado8935
3 ай бұрын
Yeah I think that if they wanted to make Romeo a douche they should have added more to his past like he had an affair or wanted to marry Juliet for selfish reasons because not just because she he had past lovers means that he is a bad person
