I was always disappointed that this never appeared on the show again. It did show up in the comic books, which was nice. I guess the closest we got were the phasers in TFF and TUC movies for TOS.

And after the appearance of the Rifle in the second pilot,it was never once used again throughout Star Trek's 3-year run.

I wonder why the rifle was used in only one episode? I bet Shatner took it home with him after they finished filming the second pilot.

If Shatner had, it wouldn't have been auctioned off by its creator back in 2013.

I can buy replicas of a phaser pistol from all the shows/movies, a tricorder and a communicator. Why doesn't any toy company reproduce this??? They would sell thousands and make a ton of cash! And you know I'd buy one.

Yes You can, the communicator works as a bluetooth device you link to your phone, the phaser works as a remote control for your TV. Thinkgeek has them. Sadly the tricorder isn't made ..yet.

Who bought this? Does anyone know? Auctioning off iconic pieces of television history like this seems so wrong. The phaser rifle belongs in a museum where it can be properly displayed and cared for by professionals. As it is, wealthy people (who often probably don’t really care about the shows they came from) buy these precious items as mere investments and stick them in their basements to show off to their wealthy friends never to see the light of day again. Who knows under what poor conditions the rifle is being stored? It’s sad.
