The audience was not watching two supertalented singing actresses cutting up and making fun at the country's premier temple of culture; they were watching two beloved icons trying - or perhaps pretending to try - to cut up.

El talento de Juli yCarol
As they sit down to sing the duet medley Carol turns to Julie with an excited smile as if to say “ this is where we both shine so well, let’s give it to them as if they are about to enter pure heaven “ . Individually both have this incredible talent to shift from bawdy humor to devastating pathos. When they sing together often against, the medley with lyrics from the previous featured song they highlight the genuine greatness of the best particular songs elements that make it memorable. My childhood listening to these songs brought back my ten year old self in my childhood bedroom listening to the radio. They are simply brilliant . They brought out tears and laughter with all the moods and emotions in between , that takes incredible talent. I wish there was as great material so that they could’ve had more than a special once every ten years. What impresses me the most is that as talented as they are they are individually even greater people. I think they are very. Much aware that together a third talent is born with the best attributes blended together. This special is brilliant and full of love. No competition , neither tries to top the other , both bring a particular talent to the table and both just have a grand fun time together. That’s what true friendship is and it can’t help coming through the screen. We love you both for bringing joy and entertainment to every generation.
They are the best! Their comedy is the best! Would love to see them together again. Best of CHUMS!❤❤
Julie Andrews is so stunningly beautiful. Wow
Carol has a lovely voice. Not as beautiful as Julie’s, but still can stand up to Julie. And Julie isn’t quite the comedian that Carol is but definitely has her cheeky side. How lucky for all of us that they found each other, became friends, and shared their magic chemistry with us
The medley that starts at 28:47 was fantastic. A 16-minute tour de force; I loved how the songs blended seamlessly into one another both melodically and thematically.
Laughing so hard at this one, thanks for posting! Love these two so much. Protect them at all costs :)

@jools01 Your point still stands though. They waited a long time to team up again for a duet
Ni words to say how much i respect this wonderfull, amazing actress singer woman
Julie and Carol are the entertainment industry's original odd couple!
These 2 are everything. The first video I ever saw of them both was their skit “phantom of the opry”
I have just found this channel and I am enjoying all of it. These two treasures are fantastic, so so funny 😄 💋💗💗
Carol breaths and I laugh 😅 god she’s an icon ahah and Julie sings one note and I have goose bumps
What a wonder! Thanks so much. Actually, though, the writeup is from the 1980's special, but this is actually their second special in 1971/72. Thanks for posting!

Ugh, you’re right. Thank you for pointing it out! Only the Playbill quote was meant for Julie and Carol at Lincoln Center. The except from the book belongs to Julie and Carol Together Again. I’ve changed it.
Wow … they paired so well …. And all this was without the super fandangled fancy technical aids that they use now …. Perfectly in tune !! Loved it so much !!!
I love 😍
❤️Love This Thank You❤️
what a great special back then.
I love these two!!
Love Julie, & Carol! 😅 Now, wait just a minute! Julie CAN SPEAK FRENCH!? 😱 29:17
Amazed at how much clothes changed in ten years; the earlier fashions became classics.
J'adore Julie et Carol!
Brilliant
My birth year 😊
Bien!👍
Truly superb entertainment.
This was the one where they screwed up Carol's hair. She admitted as much in interviews...
24:50 what song is Julie singing?

If you can find a blu-ray or even DVD version, please share with the class.
8:20 your flat 😂
Lovely ladies! Unfortunately such poor video quality! Also, the screen ratio is all wrong, the picture is stretched horizontally making all much wider, so the human body ratio is equally wrong and alas, these very slim stars have gained a lot of weight.
Really bad quality film...what a shame. Too blurry to watch

In 1971, half of America watched this on black and white TVs, using semi functional antennas, glad to get a signal at all.
