Aidan Gibson yea. As much as I respect and love Julian, it woulda been better if it was with more feel yknow. More Julian and less Lou reed. But like it is a cover and you can only be so genuine when doing a cover. After all it's not even your song. You didn't write it so you don't know what they were feeling. Honestly tho I think Julian just wanted to prove to himself he could sound like the original. It's more for fun that recreating the song or giving it a new meaning, obviously.

Sorry for intruding here guys but i think that Jules or whoever idea here was not to make a cover but a beter recording of Velvet Underground. Aidan i think you should understand the meaning of the word processed in music before saying smthng like that :)

Processed as opposed to raw. It just sounds pretty distant instead of in-your-face like the original. And the "grimy" sound of the original velvet underground recordings kinda is the point of their music, it goes hand in hand with what they were doing. It's still super cool that Julian recorded it! Ideally though, covers should still be somewhat original, instead of messing with the EQ settings and using different singers. To use a near-universal example: The Flaming Lips covered the Sgt Peppers album. Instead of doing the exact same thing the Beatles did with modern recording gear, they were extremely creative with it, making almost totally new songs while staying true to the concept of the original. I hope that makes sense!

Incredible. Forgot how good this song is. You can always go back to Velvet Underground. Julian's voice is perfect for it, even before I heard him sing I knew it would be a good match.

Makes me wonder why in the fuck some people are listening and fans of the music. If the whole aesthetic or much of it comes from the amateurish ability of mostly artists in production using equipment that needed a man with an idea to create a sound for the songs and an engineer to translate the ideas into a change in equipment and so it was an art in an of itself to make anything more than just audible and clean. So Lou Reed lead the band in being really confident and became the best at being the worst and embraced the sound they could make and didn't hide problems but became skilled in purposefully controlling an out of control feedback, and worked at it later to make sure it wasn't to clean and had some edge. But in the early years, as a take was rolling, as long as it wasn't like somebody kicking over their music stand and falling over themselves, really obviously a mistake... they kept on playing through. In Heroin Mo Tucker stopped the throbbing drum beat when the guitars became too lost for her to hear if they were there but nobody else stopped, the drummer usually stops everything if he does and instantly, so its amazing how it happened and nothing but a classic piece was left. I don't think some people know that you had to be even more than talented and really hard working to be considered a creative producer. It was hard to make a song sound mediocre back then lol geniuses were declared if that difficulty was surpassed.

it'd be cool of if the voidz did this cover live in their shows, really fits their aesthetic imo

I saw it on strokes take a walk on the wild side cover live. It was really like lou reed's voice. But you can understand when he sings from heart and in his style. I think its definitely in his style. But not sure about this one.

It sounds exactly like the original because they wanted it to sound exactly like the original. You know because it's for a TV show based on true events and that they will use this for a scene which is Lou Reed is on the stage. Btw, Vinyl is a kickass show, i'd recommend everyone here to see it
