See, the first season is really impressive... if you look purely at the fight scenes, especially the big, climactic fight scenes. But when you get to the minor fight scenes or the low action scenes, the animation starts to get more stilted. You get stuff like slow pans up a still shot of a character where only their mouth is moving, things like that. Even the fight scenes can sometimes chug - outside of the major bursts of sakuga during Yuji and Todo's fight with Hanami, sometimes the animation slows down and gets choppy and fails to sell the impact of a punch or kick. There are exceptions, of course: during that scene when Nobara and Yuji are walking back to Megumi after killing Eso and Kechizu, there's a lot of great character acting and a ton of attention to accurately animating the movement of their mouths to match the actual dialogue. My point I'm trying to make is that in season 2, the animation is much more consistent. You've still got wild, well-animated fight scenes, but you've got a ton more attention to character acting and to comedic or emotional scenes. It all results in a much more cohesive, enjoyable viewing experience. Part of that is, as you mentioned, the simpler character designs - which are honestly closer to the manga. MAPPA went a little overboard adding detail to certain character designs in season 1, and I think it really limited how much they could do with the characters. GeGe Akutami has a very loose, chaotic art style that knows where to lavish something with detail and where to keep things simple, and sometimes characters have this jagged, almost feral quality that I think season 2's art shift is better able to draw from and translate into really snappy, expressive, fluid animation.

Agree wholeheartedly. Been watching with the boy and it’s pretty intense. When the “unexpected” happened there was a collective “oh shit” from both of us. I’m glad they are not holding back.

I absolutely adore the artstyle of season two part one, but what makes is tork so well for me is the setting. It has a lighthearted vibe that works well for a flashback to highschool. I hope they combine the dark and gritty atmosphere of season one with the fluid and energetic animation of season two for future seasons.

I was worried that this season will be focusing on the past only but i was positivley suprised when i saw the holy Trio in the latest episode. Nice video bro.

The first season really was a giant hit but the second one WOW it looks amazing it feels amazing and the chars are also amazing ive read the mange and there its only up from here

JJK is easily my favorite battle shonen, and that's because the animation team and the mangaka, despite working in a battle shounen history, treat it like an almost philosophical one. The first season was animated to look and feel like the best shounes can be in this day and age, and the characters where used to weave themes and thoughts that go from the human condition, good and evil as a product and not reason of action, the opressive force of those in high places against everyone else and etc. Then comes 2 season, with this animation style so much "dream like", pensive, in storytellig meant to be much more a character study (from Gojo to Geto and everyone else). The themes goes change in some ways, with it being about change, and effects of pressure on those perceived to be able to "take it", personal growth and the quest for a better path in life. Honestly, JJK has such a profound backline in it's writing I haven't seen since bleach (in the battle shounen, televion anime scene), and I love it for this.

It's got inspiration from bleach yeah. But it's basically people who used cursed energy (magic) to exorcise "curses" that are in the world
