The standard she sets here is just incredible - the emotion, phrasing, etc. I wish the show had run 2 or 3 years - no doubt she would avoided the traps that started her decline. She just superb here.

I adore Walter Huston's classic version of this marvelous song, but I will admit that Judy Garland's voice and reading of the lyrics brought tears to my eyes. So heartfelt. I'd forgotten how amazing she was. So sad.

It's a lovely surprise to discover this, after only knowing Frank Sinatra's version with Nelson Riddle's orchestral arrangement. Judy is absolutely right -- the lyrics are plenty powerful. She does the song an enormous favor by giving it her heartfelt interpretation. Come to think of it, she has a way of doing that with anything she touches.

Noe Berengena, You're so right!! God bless Judy Garland.. You must hear Tony Bennett's recording of this, too, from his mid-'50s album, "TONY".😉

I love Judy, and simply love this beautiful song. I used to sing this with an accapella quartet several years ago. Such beautiful lyrics.

+Nacho Mamma Hi Nacho! I'm interested in knowing more about your acapella version because I have an acapella account where I focus on jazz covers. I recently did a cover of this and would love to hear your criticisms/feedback because I struggled a bit with it! Cheers soundcloud.com/jazzcapella/lost-in-the-stars

Beautiful. The second most beautiful song of the 20th Century (after September Song, lyric also by Maxwell Anderson), music by the century's finest composer, Kurt Weill.

NOT THAT WE NEED READING THE LYRICS FOR ANY OF JUDY'S PERFORMANCES. Before Lord God made the Sea and the Land He held all the stars in the palm of his hand And they ran through his fingers like grains of sand And one little star fell alone. And the Lord God hunted through the wide night air For the little dark star in the wind down there And he stated and promised He'd take special care So it wouldn't get lost again. Now man don't mind if the stars grow dim And the clouds blow over and darken him So long as the Lord God's watching over him Keeping track how it all goes on~ But I've been walking through the night, and the day Till my eyes get weary and my head turns grey And sometimes it seems maybe God's gone away Forgetting the promise that we've heard him say And we're lost out here in the stars: Little stars, big stars Glowing through the night And we're lost out here in the stars. Little stars, big stars Blowing through the night. And we're lost out here in the stars...
