It was already quite clear to me since season 2 that Daryl seemed to have a particular strong paternal instinct. It is no coincidence that the show is giving him more growth surrounding that trait. He is still an evolving character with some serious mental issues he needs to overcome.

@@tarawalsh-arpaia3928 i'd argue with that... he wasn't trying to teach beth anything. he perceived her as an adult, just a little dumb and spoiled. i think that the main difference between these is that when you speak to a child, you're trying to teach him something, no matters he knows that or not yet. but when you speak to an adult, you discuss, and argue, and disagree, and may even be angry because they don't understand something, but you don't underrate it. especially after she'd shown her being adult after (ironically) drinking moonshone with him in the barn. because at this moment they shared opinions and he accepted that he has to leave his past behind. after that they remained as equals, but didn't disargee to each other as they used to.

My husband thought there was a romantic sort of thing between them, which I can see in some parts but am glad they didn't go there. she was very young but maybe, in a way, that allowed Darryl to be his vulnerable self and to show it. Maybe that is why he is so sensitive to children. He was badly abused as a child and can appreciate them as people who think and feel and struggle, too. It is a beautiful way of developing his character now that I think about it. He's able to protect them now and he is a Protector. I think that may be the heart of his connection to Carol. They've both been woven by the same cloth, as they say.

This scene looks sad. Daryl is like a dad for Judith. ❤️

Ohmgee... ya...... wow.... im mindblown😐😐😐in fact, this series is rly all about survival.. so the adults are always guiding the younger ones.. like how Carol was teaching the kids how to use guns in one of the episodes... awww i rly like these kinds of moments/ plots; you rly need teamwork, support & trust w each other no matter who you are etc. To keep on surviving.. 🌈🌸twd ftw!🙌

@@FerretLG1 You can't skip anything in TWD, you need to just watch all of it believe me, it's worth it. It wouldn't feel the same if you just missed some, it'd feel cheated. Even if you don't like it, you're greatly rewarded with much better next season, you'll earn it then.

Daryl needed that hug for about 1000 years of killing and being heart broken.

I love what there doing with Judith's character development having these heartfelt interactions. Slowly getting accustomed to the threats beyond the walls

This. This right here is why The Walking Dead is my favourite show of all time. The character's we've watched grow over the years, the music, the acting (Norman has been phenomenal this season). I really can't put into words what this show means to me.

I totally feel the same way. This show means everything to me, too. I've been re-watching since the beginning recently (again!), and the lessons about life and what it means to be human are just really profound. Also, yeah, the character development over all the seasons has been phenomenal. We really saw that in the last few seasons with Norman, especially. It's hard not to love Daryl so hard. Don't know what I'd do without my TWD.

@@kryss.4725 Oh, I have done that too. Be careful. Knowing what is going to happen makes it even worse in parts such as the prison season when they all get sick and the killing of Herschel. That was brutal. And Abraham. That moment when Sophia walks out of the barn and Daryl grabs Carol... and how he grieves for that child. After that, the writers went totally off the wall. We had the Governor all over again with Neegan and then all these sci-fi fantasy groups like the Kingdom (utter insult, especially after the prison and Terminus). Killing Bob. Such a great character, great actor from The Wire. Those first seasons will bring you home and kill you all over again. That hospital and Beth and Noah. The line: 'We've been out here too long.' That is real.

For me this scene was the closest thing to good parenting.....

She really isn't. Remember young Carl? And Sophia? Carl was the better actor by far. He was just a kid that had to learn and live and keep on going while being an actual kid that had to learn and live and lose and keep on going. She was just born developed already. We never had to watch all the way as she developed like Carl. And the actor Carl was just a child. That prison season, the farm.... the minute Carl missed the shot at Neegan, I lost the mirage of truth in the show and it has deteriorated since. Carl would NEVER miss a shot.

Personally I think it would break daryl if he knew rick was still alive. He's spent so long thinking he was dead and to see him walking and breathing would be enough to break him. He would either hate rick with his entire life or be in such a state where he wouldn't know what is real and what isnt. he would question everything he's done in "ricks name" since ricks supposed death and it would probably slowly turn him insane deep down. thats my take on it atleast. hope it makes sense hahaha

This dialogue serves up a home run by demonstrating that blood ISN’T always thicker than water. It’s about who you choose to love and care for. I absolutely love this scene.

I love how Judith always takes care and protects r. j, just like Carl always did with her.

The best “uncle and niece” scene in tv period. I don’t care what anyone else say. Daryl talking to her like a father figure/role model is the most heartwarming to me.

Daryl was the first to feed Judith after she was born.

I love Judith and Daryl's bond!!!! Judith knows how much Daryl loved Rick and it was why she was too afraid to tell him because she doesn't want him to leave too!!! I hope his story will not end disappointing (I don't know how far his actor wants to go) and I do hope the conclusion to the original series will be satisfying!!!!

Daryl is like her dad tbh, she never really met her dad more so when she’s older so she might not be able to remember him but Daryl really stepped up and it’s adorable. Rick meant it when he said Daryl was his brother, they all take care of each other.

I cry in almost every scene Daryl is in. He has such a big heart. 😍

That last line by Daryl was beautiful about people you love. My girlfriend of 11 years ran of with an 18 year old kid 2 years ago ( she was 26) took my son and everything. But it's true not everything will break your heart my son calls me every day I've since got into a new job that I love ( of due to covid 19 ) and I've made some wonderful friends I wouldn't have before. Also that little girl is fabulous you rarely see such acting from a child her age but she really does sell it.

this was by far Daryl`s best quote of the entire series

"There's a whole buncha people who would do anything for you. And when you grow up, they're gonna need you to do anything for them." That's an outstanding line.

This scene.... I felt it so hard I started crying just now .... such a. Beautiful heart felt moment between these two. Great job!!!!!

Daryl is definitely my fave character if he dies I’ll probably stop watching it’s not the same without most of the main characters being there.

Technically she was orphaned a long time ago. Her only father she knows is missing thought to be dead and now she has reason to think maybe he’s not and her only mother she knows is gone. She has been held at knife point as a baby, captured by crazy child cannibal cult and covered in a walker blood covered poncho, traveled across the country, knows how to use a sword and a gun, probably a crossbow too, now she’s learning to track. She’s a freakin force to be reckoned with, they better not ruin/ignore her characters potential than kill her off like they did Carl.

“Nothing can take the place of someone you love being gone” Wise words from Daryl. I got chills when I first heard this line. It made me think of somebody who is very important to me that I lost long ago. Since then, I have never been the same. Yet I still find ways to keep them alive through my actions. Their presence is still felt. This scene means a lot to me.

Daryl doesn't talk much and he may not be a good babysitter but he has a warm heart towards kids.

They did show Virgil coming around again in the finale sneak peak. Maybe he will be the one to tell Daryl what Michonne found on that ship.

norman is just like daryl in real life. he’s so sweet and he’s got a huge heart but he isn’t scared to tell you the truth. he was very sweet when i met him. the character daryl was actually specifically made for norman reedus.

Daryl would have been a good dad, that hug though was so cute

This is truly one of my favorite scenes in the whole series. Think about it, this show started in 2010, whether or not you've read or prefer the comics... you can't deny that this show touches your heart on all counts. It really is incredible.

Yeah exactly If Daryl finds out his best friend that he’s been looking for for 6 years might actually be alive he’ll be completely thrown off and won’t be thinking straight against the whisperers; wait until Beta is dead then he DEFINITELY needs to find out

I just started rewatching the series because I'm about two seasons behind and to see this in comparison to season one Daryl is just so heart warming.

Judith is so so so wholesome and adorable I hate seeing her cry..breaks my heart..Daryl was hugging her for all of us ❤

This is such a heartwarming scene! Every time I watch this, it just makes me cry of happy tears cause Uncle Daryl and Judith Grimes / Dixon. Yes, I added the Dixon part, leave me alone!
