Shoes are a very frustrating thing to find when you have Diastrophic Dwarfism or really any type of dwarfism. There are over 200 types of dwarfism all with there own characteristics & challenges. Many people with my type of dwarfism have to have shoes specially made costing over $500 for one pair!
You might be wondering what type of dwarfism I have as you watch this video. There are over 200 types of dwarfism and I have Diastrophic Dysplasia Dwarfism. I'm only 3'7" tall and a mother to a fantastic son who has a different type of dwarfism than me, Pseudoachondroplasia. He is all grown up now and in architecture school, looking forward to graduating in 2024. You might think dwarfism has hindered my life, but only as much as I've let it...which isn't much. I might have difficulty walking and need to use an electric scooter/wheelchair sometimes, but I live an independent life and don't let my disability slow me down if I can help it. I've traveled to several countries and lived in both the USA and Great Britain. I have degrees in both Architecture and Art Education, but I also enjoy singing, sewing, swimming and traveling. Life is meant to be lived to the fullest so don't let what seems like an obstacle stand in your way because there is always a way around it...over it...through it or under it. NEVER GIVE UP!!!
