JUDE IS GOING TO KINDERGARTEN : Traveling Family of 11

We made a last minute decision to put both Eve and Jude into public school this year while we homeschool the other 7 kids. We weren't used to ALL of the paperwork and craziness of getting them started but Jude is SO thrilled to be in Kindergarten! Don't forget to visit us here:

Jude is blossoming into such a lovely young man. I cant help but think about his biological parents. How they tried to help him, but couldn't (like you mentioned in a previous video). It's so wonderful that he has both of you as his new parents. You guys have given him the world, literally. Sending love from Missouri.

p.s. I think it was a great decision to but Eve in public school. I grew up with my younger cousin her entire life who also has down syndrome and a speech impediment like Eve. It made a huge difference in improving her speech and she went bananas over reading and writing. She reads voraciously and copies down the bible over and over and over. In fact, she has done Genesis to Revelation a total of 8 times, handwritten in the most beautiful hand writing! Now she is a college graduate from a college that offers degrees for special education students and also does vocational school to learn skills! She is now applying to be cashier at the Good Will.

When I was younger I had issues with my speech, like years of speech therapy issues, they thought my little sister did as well because she had learned speech from me. Once she started school she quickly picked up speech from the other kids. And it is not that Jude’s speech is bad, but I bet you will see huge increases in his vocabulary and in Eve’s speech.

Ahhh I’m so excited for Eve! Praying she gets great teachers. Public schools can have just a wealth of resources, knowledge and support for kiddos w disabilities, but the school system and staff make all the difference.

Dave Gibson Lol I hated school! I’m just glad Kindergarten was only half day! I’m from Oregon, and they changed Kindergarten to full day a couple years ago (I think for most schools in the state) I don’t think I could of handled a full day of K. I came home many days and took a nap after lunch. 😂😴

First off I keep meaning to say what a great job on the new intro, showing individualities and family travels. Next- MOM Jude is a big brave boy who doesn't need his underpants for school, I chuckled, then I found myself tearing up reliving my childrens first day of school. I did in home day care when they were young, I actually stopped when my son started so I could be room mom. All the children are growing so much and you really see it in the youngest. I think Jude being in school will help Eve also because he can share his new found knowledge with her and she can share hers. You and Mike have prepared all your children for going out in the world and meeting new people and adapting to new situations, enjoying all the experiences they have. Your travels made the difference, imagine the stories they get to share with others, very cool, not many children have as many to share. Will watch whenever you post. Namaste

I love hearing your input Connie! Thank you. We homeschool our only child and she's wanted to be in a classroom setting this year because she wonders if she's missing out on what the neighbor kids are doing. So I figured we'd try a Co-op with her along with swimming, etc. Eventually we'd love to get to a place where we can travel as well. I'm tinkering with the unschooling because we're doing a structured plan and I just wonder if unschooling is better for her. BUT we live in NY and the requirements are very strict here. SO I figured I'd chat with the moms about their various methods. There's even an outdoor unschooling group that meets the whole year even in the winter. As a mom of only one. I get so nervous about making the right decision for her best interest. Today on our local news, they literally did a segment on parents paying over 100.00 for bullet proof backpacks that Walmart is selling. That freaks me out and I know that we're making the right decision for her.

Our daughter is a public school educator. There is a difference between a teacher and an educator. Hopefully, Jude and Eve will have educators. I enjoy your vlogs even more now. It also speaks well of your parenting when you see a young person like Daniel bring so motivated to step out into this world, seeking employment in more than one area. Keep up the good work. 😊

Good to hear from the other homeschooling/unschooling families in the comments below - and I would just add that just like in travel there are unbelievable bureaucratic hurdles with visas and forms and documents (and shipping vehicles takes it to a whole other level, right?) - so too many public schools are types of foreign countries and there's a lot of bureaucracy involved in traveling through them. I love seeing your flexibility and ability to support your very different children. You're a real inspiration - "real" here meaning that you show the actual reality, the challenges and rewards of what it takes. Thanks so much - just post when you can and keep on being true to yourselves.

I am happy seeing your family; however you are right. As things change, you change. It’s not always bad/good, just different. I’m glad seeing the kids trying out school, it’ll help them grow more. If public school turns out not to be the best, there’s always private or tutors! So many choices!

I don't blame you guys one bit for taking a little bit of time off posting videos at all! I definitely missed ya but I knew you needed the time...I mean CANCER that right there is enough, but with all the changes you have had the last few months...gees I would have been burned out long ago! Congrats on school Jude...he looked so cute! I am sure they will be able to help you with Eve, she has come along way already! You guys are the best and I really love watching all your videos! Hang in there, it will ease out I am sure! Take care and Namaste'!
