Heavy Metal isn't young. Listen to Oh Fortuna, or any number of intense classical pieces. Those genius composers only had one big problem. No electricity, no distortion, and no electric guitar. I am a metal guitarist, and one of the first songs I played was a cover of The Imperial March. Not centuries old , the POINT is this, Metal is an expansion of and composed very much like classical music. I have never heard of a rapper with a symphony orchestra behind them, nor Darth Brooks. However Dimmu Borgir, Metallica, and countless other metal songs have a consistent relationship with a live symphony. Dimmu Borgir's Death Cult Armageddon album comes with two cds, One is the band with all the songs on the album. The second is the symphony playing the songs and only the symphony. So from Mozart , Beethoven to this day, is it such bullshit to say its not going to die. Evolve, YES of course it will, but die,? Don't hold your breath.

I always love the way a lot of people think heavy metal music is mindless dribble that has nothing to say this song especially coupled with the visual effects is is as strong a piece of art as anything put forth by any other medium

This song is some of the reasons why 15 years old teenage metalheads will never stop listening to this music. We have grown up, we cut our hair, we may wear suits to work, we may even be lawyers. Some of us are married, we have some kids, we are forced by our wives to attend stupid parent meetings. But we never stopped listening to metal. Despite our parents saying: "you will not listen to these when you grown up. listen to something else, stop wasting money on CDs". Despite our classmates saying: "this is the song in the trend now, take that CD you brought back, you are out of fashion". We may have calmed our metal down, from classic to something else back to classic, something more extreme for a change. BUT WE NEVER STOPPED LISTENING TO METAL. 20 euros for a CD, and yet we knew everything about our music. Despite everybody else who only knew what was playing on the radio. We exchanged between ourselves everykind of CD we could find. Everytime one of our friends traveled in a big city we gave him a hundred euro to bring back a few CD we couldn't find elsewhere. And today, at 30, we never stopped listening to this music.

The best Judas Priest album! No arguing with me, just accept the fact that this albums heaviness, and kick ass songs brought them a long way!

The entire album is a masterpiece. Touch of Evil gives you that dark, emotional, melodic, vast feeling that is hard to find .

It is 2017 and I discovered this album just a month ago. I must have been living in a cave or something. being primarly a progressive rock fan, I have listened and enjoyed Judas priest's first albums upto screaming for vengeance. But painkiller is something else. I am glad that I discovered this album.

There's lot of prog in JP:s catalogue. They've done many long epic songs, with changes in mood and rythm. Even a blitz song like The Sentinel is complex, with a story line and many different segments. They have always had this fleeting relation to prog. Other examples: Beyond the realms of death, Bloodred skies, Saints in hell.... Even after 39 years, I still find new layers in their music.

This album is the true essence of heavy metal.

I love the poke in the eye to Tipper Gore and the censorship that was going on prior to the release of this album. After "Eat me Alive" became one of the top 15 songs to be band, Priest respond with this masterpiece to give the censors the big FU. Painkiller is JP's "hold my beer" moment to all the other forms and types of metal that were forming at this time.

The band itself is a masterpiece.

First time I heard this album, it just about blew my head apart! I was so happy to hear this incarnation of Priest. I've always loved classic Priest, but I feel this was a natural direction they took, largely enabled by incredible drummer Scott Travis.

All these years later, I now realize that Rob wasn't singing about A Touch of Evil, he was singing about A Touch of "Evil". I'm glad he survived the strain of hiding that part of himself for all of those years.

@@sonyabelmontfarenheght1189 Then the protagonist singing about "[wanting] a touch of evil", beckoning the one who gives the touch of evil to "in the night, come to me", and not being able to "resist [temptation implied] a touch of evil" don't make a lot of sense if they are a victim of abuse. A victim of abuse would also likely not say that "ecstacy controls me" when speaking of the abuse. I can see how these verses might seem like something that an abuser might say to make themselves seem the victim, but that's a HUGE stretch. Plus writing a song that seems to empathize with a child abuser would be extremely irresponsible and I'm pretty sure that JP wouldn't be down for it.

I hear nothing today that can compare to this! This is METAL 👍🍺
