Me and my guys got in trouble for smoking weed in a construction site about 10 years ago, and the only person the 2 cops treated with respect was myself. There was 5 of us, and I was the only white guy there. They didn't cuff me, but used their 2 pairs of cuffs to detain my other 4 friends by cuffing them together, who again were all hispanic. They only talked to me, and ended up letting us go with warnings because we were underage and didn't have any more weed on us besides what the cops already stomped out. We all were doing the same thing, breaking the same laws, but I was the only one to get treated with respect by them. It's an extremely weird feeling.

So we used to have a thing where I'm from called jump out Tuesdays (and Thursdays) where the police jump out on random black males looking for anything they can lock them up for. I was, at the time, dating a white girl from the suburbs (about an hour from the city). We were leaving my house and heading to hers for a cookout with my cousin and his girlfriend. When I exit my house after everyone else I see the Police with my cousin on the ground, his girl arguing with the police, and my girl in her car crying. When they finally let us go, and I'm in the car with her, she's going on about how she's never seen anything like that, and couldn't understand why would they do that to him. In that moment it hit me that there is a large portion of (white) America that truly doesn't think that racism exists. They don't hate black people, the people they know don't openly talk about hating black people so we assume they don't, so It's not a real thing. It's just not something that they think about. It's like that Dave Chappelle joke about whites finding out about police brutality in Newsweek after Rodney King.

@@sunrayhicks2971 you know, I've honestly never thought about that. That wasn't the first time I've dealt with it, or the last. As f***ed up as it sounds, you just accepted the fact that this was going to happen to you eventually. it's just a part of growing up Black in Baltimore. I think the reason it affected her so much because she has a biracial son (that looks more black than white) and that was the first time that it hit her that her son could go through these things, and she was in no way prepared teach him how to deal with it. Forget the things that she knows that she has to tell him, this was something that she didn't even know existed that could detrimentally harm her son. She later asked if I could talk to her son about dealing with the police. She said she never saw her son as a black boy, just as a boy, and she didn't know how to prepare him for a world that she, as a white woman, knows nothing about. She said she was, for the first time, truly scared of her son's life. It was a heartbreakingly beautiful moment (if that makes any sense) to see her get an understanding of what it is that I (& a lot of other black men) have had to deal with my entire life.

His wife didn't have her license while driving, which is a violation. He came to the scene with the license but then refused to leave, which is also against the law. The fact it's his spouse gives him no right to be there if he wasn't already in the car when she was pulled over because she is an adult. So he gets arrested for interfering with the traffic stop and refusing to follow lawful orders. I just saw a news report about a white city councilwoman who had the same thing happen - she refused to leave a traffic stop with her adult son when she hadn't been in the car. The police were praised for not allowing her to interfere, so how was this situation racist? if she hadn't committed a traffic violation she wouldn't pulled over and it wouldn't have escalated if she had her driver's license with her as she is supposed to. If he would have followed the officer's lawful order, he wouldn't have been arrested. Many police officers are wounded or killed in traffic stops so they must be very careful. Seems to me the wealthy, famous professional athlete thought he should be given special treatment.

I feel like a white person, like myself, getting into it with the law while they're with friends of other races is extremely eye opening.

"Kind of a jerk" He meant racist.
'Kind of a jerk'? What do you have to do to be a real jerk in Jru's book. I mean he put him in handcuffs for no reason and is still just 'kind of a jerk'.
The cop is scared of a 6’4 black guy coming from home to give his wife help. You should respect that. Damn shame.

That’s nuts. I’d like to see what the cop would do in the same situation!! Would he just leave his family!!
