This a wonderful edit that showcases Jrue's fairly unique interdiction of the ball. I was talking to someone who was complaining about how Jrue is the only guy who gets away with these moves without getting called, and I pointed out that I think it's bc the ball is almost always coming out, fast, in the direction that Jrue is moving. Whether that's stripping the ball in that hollow space, bursting into the space the offensive player wants to go to and punching it out with his outside hand, or sliding and stripping it with the pinning inside arm, Jrue is almost always in control, and can usually take the ball in his next stride. There's such a clear visual indicator that he's played the ball - because it is shooting out in whatever direction he is moving - the refs arent inclined to notice whatever incidental contact occurred. Not sure it's possible to replicate if someone doesnt have his spooky hand-eye coordination, and his balance - Holiday's handle is sublime, and his ability to settle deflected and kicked balls with a quick, one-handed dribble, all while changing direction at speed, is unlike anyone I've ever seen play. Great video, coach!

Jrue is so good! Still can't believe the Bucks cut him loose and he ended up in Boston. Bucks fans still trying to convince themselves it was a smart trade but Jrue is exponentially better than Dame on defense to a degree that can't be overcome by Dame's offense. Jrue is just so good at everything on the court especially, as you show here, on defense. Great work!

Good job highlighting Jrue's defensive talent. There's a reason that some of the best offensive players in the NBA consider him the best on-ball defender in the league. According to guys like PG and KD, it isn't even that close either. Beyond that, Jrue is just a guy that does what it takes to win. Watching his passes, shot selection and defense, the guy just has a sky-high basketball IQ on both sides of the ball.

@@LockdownDefense Right... It's only worth it if the offensive player is your 1 or 2 option offensively, taking 25 plus shots a night. You can make up the difference there (hence why luka is considered by most a top 4 player)... but Klay gonna shoot like 10-13 shots a game. He's gonna need to hit at a 50% + clip AND basically only shoot threes for them to make up the difference there and that's just on an individual basis, not accounting for the combined atrocity that luka+Kyrie+Klay perimeter defense will be. I have a feeling by the end of the year you'll see a lot more of grimes or whoever their best wing defender is playing the key minutes late and they will ultimately regret the move - especially considering his age.

This why LaMelo always has Jrue on skates 😂. His whole defense is predicated on waiting for you to switch the ball to your other hand while he is riding your hip (Kobe has a good instructional vid in this method), and also “beating” players to their spot, reaching in, and hoping the refs don’t blow the whistle. Guards who can easily dribble behind their legs give him fits.

While all of these techniques might seem to be really effective. To pull these off you need exceptional conditioning and innate physical talent. Running sideways and backwards, as fast as the opposing offensive player, keeping balance still, require great core strength and those swipe steals require long arms
