Joylene's cactus garden
Spent a day taking a walk through Joylene Sutherland's garden in Victoria's western district. The plants Joylene has here need to be seen to be believed. It is by far one of the best private collections of columnar and large cacti in Victoria.
We were fortunate enough to be there on a sunny November day with many blooms out. The birds and bees take full advantage of what this garden has to offer.

I live in Minnesota but I have around 25 varieties that I grow. Many bloom. I have loved cacti for over 50 yrs. Your garden is amazing.

I live in North Dakota what cactus can survive outside here?
Goodness, they really do extremely well in that Australian weather.
This garden is heaven… it must be over 20 years old at the least
Impressive. Expect there may be some frost in winter, but everything is doing really well.

Joylene has had this garden 30 years in the making and I agree it is superb. Some of the plants you see are her own seed raised hybrids.

I can only grow 3 types of cacti outside thru the Minnesota winters and they struggle a little. There is a variety of barrel cacti that grow wild in South Dakota where the winters are slightly milder but still the temperature gets well below zero degrees fahrenheit. This variety of barrel cactus has pretty pink blossoms.

Amazing! Cactus are not even found in the AU, but I can't even grow cacti like that in California where we have some!

+Fearless Soul Joylene's garden is in western Victoria not far from the Grampian mountains. It's a private garden on a sheep farm. Glad you liked it. I will be visiting there again soon as I know Joylene has been adding to her garden over the last couple of years. A new video will be posted to show her garden improvements.
Wow, they can grow so big. But hazard for small children.

Thanks Jolene. It's been on the cool side here so I'm not watering them much. I have a lavender round Crusulla I think, I am still new at this and dont want to take time rite not to look in my files I have started on catci and succulents I have bought. But, on this one and a very lite blue one the underneath leaves are drying up. At first I had them in the sun then I moved them to shade and now i have them on short table along a open scallop short brick wall where they now get filtered sun.

Look's like that garden wants to hurt you lol. I would hate to buy a house with a garden like that, could you imagine trying to clear it, if you didn't like cactus, it's like someone's worst nightmare.
